Jeans were originally created merely as miner's work wear, not the fashion icon they've become. In one poll, 91% of women own at least one pair, and a whopping 25% own 10 pairs or more (I feel relieved of guilt). But why own more than 3? Because they're the best fashion invention since mascara! Long gone are the days we had a death grip on our favourites, purchased after an eternal search for 'the fit'! Now that's no longer necessary as every season presents new finishes, better cuts and style fabrications.
Favourite jeans and the hand knit sweater look. I love this open cardigan, the variegated knit pattern reminiscent of sweaters from decades ago. (I won't say how many!)...Always a a winning pairing. Easy weekend wear with the motorcycle boot.

Ankle length, pull on, super stretchy fabrication (Cotton/poly/spandex); no zippers or buttons to contend with, but just enough fading and whiskering to make them look like they've been yours for years. Fabulous with Keds or ankle wrap ballet flats or really flats of any kind.

I suppose if one more person mentions that walking is good for you, you might want to just throw a shoe at them (not the good ones though). However, it truly does bear reminding because of it's endless health benefits. For instance, did you know, a recent study, showed walking intensity points towards longevity for those who have a naturally brisk gait? But what inspires you to get out there...listening to Aerosmith on iTunes, falling leaves, or simply the cuddly poncho you love most? How about some inspiration brought to you by Plum:

I'm fairly certain your last name need not be Stewart to wear this fabulous reversible poncho. And I hate to keep harping on the 'reversible/you've gained two garments' thing however...it is what it is! You're welcome! I think it cries out for some bright red lipstick or some bold red hunter boots and you're ready for a walk in the Highlands!

As owner and buyer for Plum for 35 years I have learned to become disciplined in what I purchase for our customers. Contrary to what you may imagine I cannot buy whatever I want. Plum customers are very specific about what they want and need, so a Plum store must be balanced, consistent and beautifully merchandised.
Often I must pass up on things that I would love to purchase because it doesn’t fit into the mix. That is where the new Plum Pieces comes in.
At the beginning of 2015 we changed our Kitsilano store and experimented with a new eclectic mix of ‘pieces’ I could not resist. The freedom as a buyer has been fun. Some are unique pieces, or trendy pieces, or just pieces that have nothing to do with anything else except that I have ‘fallen in love’ with them.
 
The new Pieces store still has lots of fashion that Plum has become famous for; like our own designs and locally made labels Simone and Tobias (plus this fall we have added acapella and wink wink to the collection). But, since I am in New York and LA several times a year to find interesting fashions for Plum, now I can kind of ‘go nuts’ for the new Pieces store! Much of what I buy will only be in Pieces.

What is a fashion attitude? Does it leave the image of a perpetually morose looking Victoria Beckham in your head? While Ms. Beckham has undeniable style, we don't always aspire to look like someone drove over our prized Louboutin's! In my mind, attitude in fashion is not isolated to a surly, perpetually hungry expression. To me, it means deliberate. Meaning if you'd like to channel Audrey Hepburn, that image will be quite apparent by how you pull yourself fully together, head to toe with everything in between being well thought out.
James Dean has nothing on this fearless look. If you're going for the 'I look like I don't care, but secretly do' image...your search is over! Wiser than an old owl, is how you'll look. This jacket is fantastic and Bear Dance make a very cheeky line of t shirts which Plum carries a large range of.

Trying to avoid the C word but...really this sweet thing really is so cute! The attitude is flirty and fun but get out of the way, I have places to go! Free flowing swing shape with back bow tie. Terminally cute but smoking hot with cut out style shoes, booties or show stopping with over the knee boots.

"Walk confidently in the direction of your dreams"(or take a taxi...just a suggestion)! A stunning, yet very comfortable, look (above the heels of course). The drape of the top, over the skinny jeans, no attitude is compromised.

If there was one woman who had head to toe attitude, it was Katharine Hepburn. She was the epitome of uncompromising, simple elegance in her time. These pants are so fluid and easy but with great style, and with the tone on tone look of black, it's such a sleek look.

Can the right suit get you hired or the sought after promotion? Probably not, but it can make sure you're not ruled out. In other words, if it's between you and another candidate...and it's neck and neck....why not choose the one with the flawless attire? Just a minor detail that we'd rather not consider, however real. I've had substandard quality shoes fail me at a wedding...why put yourself in this position at a crucial time. Why not walk confidently in quality.
  
Here's a jacket (and it's co-ordinates) that looks polished yet looses no points to being 'run of the mill'...Tobias always includes unexpected, interesting features to help you stand out. Because different is not only ok but great, distracting (for all the wrong reasons) maybe not.

While pairing your jacket with opposites such as destroyed denim on the weekend is standard in style now, matching for work means it might be best to invest in the actual mates. It just seems a touch off when the jacket is worn with a bottom that is of similar fabrication but 'not' quite. Colours do not always match therefore, maybe best to get the matching pant or skirt making for a complete, pulled together look. Add the creative part with the blouses, tanks and accessories.

While the blazer is the standard for most office settings, there's no reason why you can't veer off course a bit with this slick looking faux leather piece. Smart, sleek and a bit edgy put together with a pencil skirt, heels and a simple necklace would make this a great piece to do double duty for weekends as well.

When you sift through a rack at your favourite store, are you drawn particularly to colour, pattern or are you drawn to how it feels next to your skin? Why one might choose texture first seems fairly obvious, (as an example) eliciting possibly comfort when the touch is soft; colour may provide a clue to your personality, but what about pattern? What first draws you in? The twisted teardrop shape of the paisley, bold colour, cozy bulky knits or the flow of rayon? Let's see what's suits your fancy right now.
The beauty of this paisley print is surpassed only by the fabulous fit. It's wonderful to have a beguiling colour or pattern but if the fit is not there, you're left looking rather awkward. This dress provides a wonderful fit, with well cut sleeves, rushed waist and just the right length. This could easily be the go to dress of the season.

Here is a fresh pattern that is just so playful. Very significant this season, showing up in jackets, shawls, poncho's and even skirts. Love how these have been matched with oxfords, but I could easily see them paired with ballet flats or knee high boots with boot cuffs, turtleneck sweater and skirt...lots of room to be creative with these as the starting point.

Incorporating both texture and pattern...the variegated, irregularity of this knitted pattern creates a very handmade, eclectic look, while the interspersed open knit provides an opportunity to show a bit of you...or not. Possibly wear a bold tank beneath. Lots of ways to play with this and easily can go from office to weekend.

What better way to edit your work wardrobe but to add a shell top. Clearly a constant paired with a suit, or cardigan, the shell top is best friends with a pencil skirt or crop cigarette leg pants. But this is far from basic. Note the unexpected mesh texture at the yoke. Pull your hair in a pony tail, add bright red lipstick for some punch and you're good to go.

When choosing try to draw in what enhances your natural features, along with what suits your personality. Whether you're attracted to particular patterns, colours or textures, keep in mind what may suit your already beautiful features...big voluminous hair, freckles or very dark locks.
