dress yourself...

Do you dress yourself? Really! Personally, I rarely seek opinions from others or ask 'does this look good?' And I'm laughing as I type, I'm sure those who know me are thinking....'perhaps you should rethink that'. Recently, I was ready for Easter; had an outfit put together, (my usual black components)...when suddenly my husband upon seeing me uttered "You should wear something brighter!"  My normal response would be to indignantly go into a Vesuvius, 'how dare you' style rant. However, I realized, it was a lovely day, not a cloud for miles...he was right! So I changed. I had a fashion epiphany (and I didn't yell)...I felt like a new person....dresses have a similar effect, a beautifully fitting dress can make you feel like there is nothing you can't do Mary Tyler Moore! Have a look at some of Simone's great new styles:

Image

I realize I keep harping on the style elements of Claudia's (Plum's designer) dresses and this one is no different. Features an adorable peek a boo front and tie, a slight sweetheart neckline and a great, flowey skirt. Never to ignore the back, this has a shirred back. Such a gorgeous retro print.

Simone keyhole dress $ 129

ImageImage

I am in love! Who needs a significant other when you have a dress like this ;)  At first glance it looks like a typical shift dress, thus why I had to show you the back. Apart from this it has an ever so slightly tucking below the neckline and the fabric has such a divine stretch...the only jiggles will be in your bowl of Jello!

Simone printed knit dress with back detail (black print or mint print) $ 125

Image

Perhaps a less fitted dress is something you find more 'you'. Another great Simone design. Light, easy, yet includes a tie back.

Simone sleeveless flared sundress (aqua, blue/pink, and red) $129

Image

This dress is reminiscent of a Grace Kelly look but with a modern kick featuring an exposed zipper back. So pretty, so well cut and just exquisite fabric. A real classic, perfect for so many of the spring and summer events to come.

Simone eyelet dress (black or white) COMING SOON~

And just for future reference, other than Plum staff, who are fashion-know-it-all's (and they truly do!)...DON'T let anyone tell you what to wear, how to wear it or when to wear it....unless they are willing to pay for it (then they can have an opinion-maybe)!

They paved paradise...

5 DAYS ONLY...15 % off regular priced blue denim jeans...in store only.

Finding the right jeans (fit, colour, wash) is like finding a good parking spot in downtown New Delhi.  And we thought we had it bad. Apparently worldwide, New Delhi ranks as 'the' worst place to find that 'magic' spot, followed by Bangalore, Beijing and Moscow. And when you do find that spot, it's like winning the parking lottery! So much the same with jeans. And once found, it's a good idea to keep following that brand. There's a very good chance the fit they use remains fairly constant. Plum has the best brands which consider all denim issues of utmost importance - DISH, YOGA and MAVI.

Image

What a great pair. Cotton candy pink with the rugged, distressed look. A great contrast, each playing off the other's bold and soft features! All that's needed to balance it out is a plain white t shirt and a contemporary necklace. Footwear is really based on where you're treading!

Mavi Emma dark R-vintage

Image

A faded denim such as the Dish straight leg above, looks great paired with red (be it red shoes, red scarf or even red lipstick). Since they are straight leg, perhaps keep the top from being too loose and baggy in style. Another denim made for movement, with lots of stretch content.

Dish performance denim - straight leg - light stone

Image

Perhaps a departure from the skinnies? The slight flare is fantastic!! Photo does not quite do them justice. The finish is so authentic looking. They're great (as above) with heels, slide nicely over boots, a wedge or an espadrille (for maybe more of a 70's vibe).

Mavi Ashley mini flair

Image

Aren't these just a sexy little jean for the spring? Great ankle length, high rise and really comfortable stretch content. Really cute with a Cuban heel ankle bootie, retro bootie or even an oxford in a bold colour, just for fun.

There are parking spaces, backspaces and head spaces but the most important is closet space because you can always take the bus, grab a pen or get some air...but you can never have too much closet space!

Running for office

Today's office setting is changing; cubicles are becoming a thing of the past, the walls are coming down (sorry Mr. Trump) in favour of a more open/collaborative setting. Often attire is less constricted and severe, offering the ability to show a more creative and casual 'you'. Showing more of 'you' brings 'you' into the tasks. That's a very good thing.  Every season Plum creates pieces that can move from event, to function to office and home. Let's look at this seasons great crop of Tobias jackets designed for life:

Image

Ok so, maybe your office is not a patio on English Bay....(or maybe it is, lucky you). At first glance it looks like the standard 2 button, welt pocket jacket. However, once you see it in person...(and I apologize for drooling on the screen), this is a gorgeous fit! The back has a slight gather feature which I have never seen before in a blazer. It fits so amazingly well.

Tobias (linen/cotton) suit jacket with elastic back detail (soy black or white sand) $195

Image

Clean, fresh and sleek describe this impeccable, open front jacket.  The textured fabric is substantial, featuring a waist defining placket and hidden pockets. Comprised of cotton and unexpectedly, the slightest bit of spandex.

Tobias open front jacket with waist detail (black or latte) $185

Image

Just letting you have a peek of something to come. Another uncomplicated yet distinct Tobias design. Simple, no collar to the front, back with beatiful definition detailing and flap pockets. Note that pink is an important emerging colour this season.

COMING SOON

You could certainly be running for office with these jackets in your wardrobe, or simply running to the grocery store and all things in between. Tobias has many jacket options; finding the right fit is as important as finding the right candidate for Presidency (just a bit more complicated perhaps)...

Do not forget about Plum's spring coupon offer and perhaps try the new WINK WINK...Until March 13 $20 off a regular priced clothing or accessories purchase of $95. Get it here!

A wink....generally means, a privately shared secret...or maybe a bit of flirting? In a nearly 20 year old study of what a 'wink' meant to the average person, actors were used to briefly walk by participants giving a wink...While I doubt Dr. Oz will be reporting on this ground breaking study any time soon, these are the results: Thanks was the choice 67% of the time, a friendly gesture 26%, sexual attraction only 11% and other 22%. Other, well that's rather ambiguous...To Plum it's not ambiguous. It's a new, fresh, easy, unique to Plum, line of clothing. Have a look ;) ;)

Image

Hands down, this dress will be one of (if not the) top seller this season. Another great design that takes into account that we're not lamp posts. We move, we dance, we sit, we run. This dress moves with you and it looks amazing on! Features an easy v neckline which helps elongate (and who doesn't want to look taller), pockets and a really comfortable fabrication.

Wink Wink v-neck sleeveless dress (comes in black/white, blue spot and red floral) $98

Wink wink is light hearted, fun and easy to co-ordinate and the above column skirt is a great example. Note the other patterns available. Great for the many daily activities that require you get it on and go! Wear with cut out wedges, gladiators or simply ballet flats...smashing!

Wink Wink long skirt with elastic waist band (blue stripe, black/blue/green, black/mocha/grey, black purple pink) $55

Image

If you're looking for a super fun way to shake things up, maybe mixing complimentary patterns, for the above skirt, this batwing top works really well with it. If that's a touch too busy, think about breaking it up with a wide belt.

Wink Wink batwing top (black/hunter/teal, black/red/pink) $55

Image

Never having been accused of being 'too graceful' myself, I somehow have found, some clothing can help create the illusion for me...like the above Wink Wink loose fitting t shirt. Throw on an eclectic mix of pendants, opt for a scarf and a blazer...match with a pencil skirt, the column skirt or shorts.

Wink Wink short sleeve top (melon, turquoise or white) $48

Wink wink was created as an extension of Plum's other great clothing lines, co-ordinates and integrates into your current wardrobe and is uncomplicated yet still right on with the colour and style trends of the seasons.  And MADE IN CANADA ;)...ok enough of the winking, you'll think I'm flirting!

There is still time to take advantage of Plum's spring coupon offer...Until March 13
$20 off a regular priced clothing or accessories purchase of $95. Get it here!

I've come to the thoroughly researched conclusion that wasting a lot of money on my children's attire (pretty this and adorable that) is a bad diversion of funds. Clothing seems to serve as more of a convenient napkin for food spills for them. I, however, love them and have my favourites (not my children...GASP!)...colours, styles, cuts and labels like acapella and Wink Wink...for many reasons (Plum's new exclusive labels).  This week let's have a look at some Acapella blouses taken with the stunningly beautiful backdrop of Bowen Island:

Image

Speaking of favourites, this gorgeous blouse could easily be the star of Plum's most recent spring photo shoot.  This fresh, light blouse worn above with shorts can also be worn with a pencil skirt, vintage finish jeans or ankle length pants making it a frequent wardrobe choice.

acapella dolman sleeve blouse (black, lemon or white) $89

Image

One of my personal favourite's is black and white, making it very simple to co-ordinate with nearly any other colour. While this acapella blouse is a very practical business attire addition, the varied polka dots provide a bit of retro whimsy.

acapella front tie with back pleat (black/ivory or white/black) $69

Image

The usual cut and print is not to be found with acapella. The general theme of acapella designs are, fresh, unique and anything but 'basic'. If you're noticing polka dots are big this season, you'd be 'spot' on. A very compelling and feminine print.

acapella cape blouse (red or yellow) $85

I can't pretend to be your 'Fashion Godmother'...but I can tell you if you head into one of Plum's locations one of their staff are a pretty close proximity! Ask to see the many, unique to Plum, acapella blouses. Or, if you're in search of new trends and styles to try, Plum staff are happy to help you pull together some great looks for spring.

A coupon to kick start your spring shopping. Get your coupon here!

$20 off a regular priced clothing or accessories purchase of $95 (jewellry excluded).

Unless you're new to the planet, you can already tell spring is right around the corner, at least in Vancouver. With it brings a compulsion to clean out the garage, start gardening or resuscitate one's wardrobe. If procrastination is one of your favourite pass times, the latter is probably the preferable choice. Plum is fully ready with some gorgeous and reliable, yet distinct design features, you won't find anywhere else.

Welcome back spring! We missed you.

The front email dress is destined to be a huge hit this season. I think it captures the freshness of the season perfectly. Very flowey, drapey fabric and a delicate print. But it's also what cannot be seen that's also so great.  Very well structured, fully lined and barely visible pockets. A great, unexpected feature.

Simone sleeveless dress with front pockets (navy or pink) $129

Image

When spring starts to peak out at us, one of the first things we notice is, the days are starting to get longer...brighter. Plum's Acapella has a uniquely special way of interpreting the spring blouse. This is such a delightful pattern set against an easy fitting, yet sheer fabric. Way to bring back the brightness Acapella!

Acapella dolman sleeve blouse (lemon, white and black) $89

Image

Tank tops are a great wardrobe staple. They work so well with suits, or as above with jeans etc. And yet, this Acapella blouse has been re-inspired featuring a retro neckline and another touch of the feminine with the small back button fastening...Some small, yet special design features puts this just a step ahead of a basic.

Acapella sleeveless cowl neck blouse (navy, pink) $69

Image

The cut of this dress was such a hit last season, it's been redone with a very fresh, seasonal pattern. Just the right length, cap sleeve and a great mid section design feature that looks just like that, like a design feature but can cleverly disguise the middle (if need be)!

Simone cross over dress (royal, jade, orange or blue/red prints) $125

So you can put away your boots, heavy coats and unpack the sling backs...Spring has sprung and with it comes the great, much anticipated spring wardrobe options. THIS is just the tip of the iceberg...sorry icebergs are so last season....I meant to say 'blossom'!
