show it off

Plum now has their 2016 Resort Collection in the stores and online! Apparently liking yourself and how you look is the new black. FINALLY! After all, reality is far more interesting than any movie produced because it's unpredictable and ever changing...like us! So, you'll be going to a resort soon, where baring it all (or most) is quite likely? Well, maybe Amy Schumer (actress/comedian) didn't break the internet with her recent (Liebovitz) Pirelli 2016 photo shoot wearing nothing but her coffee cup and lacy bits; but it proves that not only is it ok to have flaws, in fact, it's to be celebrated! Plum has the best selection of resort wear to help get you ready for showing it all!

Image

The must have pieces for the trip. The ubiquitous tank and the wrap skirt...add the wide brim hat and sandals and you're set. Important to have comfortable, easy to pack and wear co-ordinates, because it's all about taking it easy and relaxing!

Plum Ribbed tank top (cotton/spandex) 10 colours $18

Wink Wink draped skirt (blue/citrus or blue/coral) $79

ImageImage

Needless to say, there will be plenty of beach time, this is a perfect item for just a bit of coverage. Clearly this great mesh coverup can be maximized by pairing it with shorts and a tank.

Wink Wink coverup (coral, turquoise, white) $69

Image

This is the back view of the fabulous dress on the front of the email. Plum's exclusive designs are always created to show interest from all angles.

Wink Wink dress with crisscross back strap (blue/citrus or blue/coral) $110

White always proves to be a go to for hot weather. The above beautiful tunic is another, multiplicitous piece. Worn above with shorts but because of it's sheet nature, would work with a tank dress, capri's or bermuda's.

En Creme blouse pullover (off white) $69

It's up to you how much you bare, but time to relax means it's not time to fuss over one's perceived deficiencies. Plum's staff can help you pull together a wardrobe that will celebrate you. So many more resort options in store and online, be sure to put Plum on your to do list!

"I don't want to wear a dress to the party"...sounds like something my 8 year old says! However, whether it's the 8 year old voice in your head or last nights heavy dinner still speaking to you...if you don't want to wear a dress...DON'T! Dresses are great...but...there are many other alternatives! Maybe dresses just don't cut it with those ferocious shoes you've been dying to wear, you want to go the super funky route or you want to dance and move. The many options we have as women are just one aspect of what separates us from the boys! Here are just a few options.

ImageImage

I adore this ensemble. I think it's smart, elegant and functional. Above very cleanly put together, however nothing better than black to showcase a great necklace and/or earrings. Wear it buttoned up, with a statement necklace or a long one.

Tobias relaxed trouser (black or charcoal) now $65

Plum long sleeve shirt (black, off white or royal) $82

ImageImageImage

Here's a look that can work at a daytime affair, house party or funky town ...A bit of boho top, destroyed jeans, glitzy necklace and a red hot pair of pumps. Red pumps and necklace make it seasonal, however the other components work so well with many other of your usual activities. Pull your hair up into a messy bun or pony tail add a shawl or one of Plum's great Tobias jackets.

En Creme hilow blouse (cream) $79

Image

We cannot pass by the season of parties without sequins. Wanting to add a bit of something special but don't want to pile on the glitz, this is a great option. Wear with a simple black turtleneck and add a jacket and a statement necklace (or skip the necklace) and just add a pair of dangly earrings. A standard that works every year!

Press sequin skirt (asphalt mix) $81

ImageImage

Lace is not just for weddings, however, this can be very 'church choir/meet the inlaws' (a la Audrey Hepburn), worn over a basic shift dress. Or really amp it up with a motorcycle jacket, skinny black jeans and high heels. A very worthwhile investment that won't see much time in your closet.

Acapella blouse with pleated sleeve (black or ivory) $85

Tobias slim pants with side zipper (black or taupe) now $79

Maybe you don't 'do' dresses or today you just feel like a Play-doh explosion on legs that no amount of Spanx can fix (ok that's me)! Whatever your reason, if a dress won't do, there are still ample other options.  Head into a Plum near you and ask for some ideas or finishing touches.

The red dress...NOT for the faint of heart!

Do you not just want a dress that will knock everyone's socks off? Of course! However, must we buy something that will only satisfy us 'once' a year? A dress which we pull out of the closet and proclaim...'ah, this won't do, I need something new'! Plum has an incredible, show stopping array of dresses. But what I'm seeing is very well designed and constructed dresses that sashay very easily from day to night. Some lovely frocks worn in the daytime with a crisp jean jacket and simple necklace translate very well with accessories to an evening affair. Don't be timid. Experiment. Plum staff can help you create some great looks! Because we want to look great but want to save some of our budget for gifts!

Image

What to say about this dress...it's jaw droppingly stunning! The perfect shade of red, an unparalleled cut and design and super comfortable fabric. What else could you want! Gorgeous date? I'm sure that will work out!

Simone dress with sheer top (black or red) $159

Image

Jacquard is very big this season and adding a necklace is not out of the question. Patterns do not automatically mean, accessories will not work. This dress is A-MAZING. Despite it's uptown look, work it with a jean jacket, funky boots and tights as well. There is no reason why you can't go creative and fun. Thus making this a very worthwhile addition! And as with all Simone dresses, you will walk away looking pretty smart as the back has a very graceful, gathered feature.

Simone raglan sleeve with elastic back (gold or silver) $139

Image

This is a grown up version of the high waisted skirt/crop top trend. And before you let the little voice inside your head dismiss this saying "no way". I say 'yes way! However, if you're feeling just too shy, why not a lace cami beneath showing through. Such a sultry look!

Plum short sleeve dress with keyhole (red/charcoal or royal/charcoal) $139

Image

Maybe you're in search of something that shows off your creative side. A wild and unexpected view of things. This dress has a great fabric mix that makes it easy to wear but head turning at the same time!

Wink Wink scoop neck tunic dress (black, Kale or port) $98

Poor Cinderella had to invent a Fairy Godmother....you on the other hand, have Plum. There is no midnight deadline (you can shop online), you can keep the dress and who needs a prince charming! You're already charming!

20% OFF regular priced sweaters...offer ends November 11, 2015 (in store only).

One of Plum's main locations was hit by an ambulance and limo the morning after Halloween. Hard to miss the irony in this.  Thus why it was ultimately decided to 'actually' have a door crasher special! After all, there were no casualties, unless you count the mannequin (and don't forget, there was an ambulance on the scene). So, while the crews are working hard to get the store back to it's former glory Plum is featuring a great special on sweaters...because it gets cold when the doors are open!

Image

Plum's Granville and 12th Avenue in Vancouver location. Pictured above!

Enough about that, let's get to the sweaters!

Image

Doesn't this just compel you to want to sign up for ski lessons.  Me neither! But I do like that I can look like I ski, without the effort (and cold)!

Press ski motif sweater $92

ImageImage

Here's a very interesting, creative version of the usual cardigan. Nice and long, but beyond the ordinary, features a great cowl neck collar, that when unbuttoned, falls in a beautiful drape. Almost making it look like two different sweaters.

Kerisma Jodi button cowl (camel or dark grey) $98

ImageImage

Here is one for the 'show off' in you! Really this is a stunning sweater with lots of potential for multiple occasions for the upcoming season and date nights. If the sequin glitter is not enough, it also features a metallic lace up back! Lots of wow! Great also paired with destroyed denim and sky high pumps. A multitude of ways to work this co-ordinate!

Nuage glitter sweater (black or brown) $82

Image

The way to justify yet another sweater is....they're all different, of course! First glance it looks like any ordinary crew neck fisherman knit style pullover, yet it has a slight feminine twist.  A loose, slight shape and the shrunken look sleeves, allow for a multitude of bangles.

Kersh textured sweater (claret or moss) $59

I think when faced with a challenge, one can be destroyed, chat with a friend, make a joke...or better yet....ATTEND A SALE (ps...bring your friend to the sweater sale)!

Personally yours

Add: 'great bargain hunter' to your personal style resumé. Don't miss out on some great deals here!

Really what IS personal style and how does one get 'it'? Trends can play a part, however, if you look at some famous icons...Stevie Nicks, Taylor Swift, Ellen DeGeneres or Betsy Johnson...all have identifiable personal style. Even Iris Apfel at 94 years young. Trends never seen to over take their personal style, merely become part of it. You have to let 'you' become your style! So fear not the fashion police...if you feel you need help defining or refining yours... ask for it! Plum staff are experts!

Image

If your personal style is to 'stand out' or have one unique piece that's fun...this will add nicely to your collection. Wonderful fuzzy/funky mohair/alpaca blend, vest that creates flair but also adds warmth.

Backdrop fur yarn collar vest (mushroom) $129

Image

Maybe you lean towards a more demure image, but with a dash of sass! There's a simplicity to this top, however, a little added interest with the blurred print image. Great to go with one of the Tobias suits or eases into the weekend with jeans.

Plum cap sleeve top (mustard or purple) $45

Image

As with all Plum's Simone dresses, there really is NO blending in....fitting in, yes, but blending in, no! Flirty, without being too obvious!

Simone front pleated dress (black, denim, honey/black, red/black) $110

ImageImage

Something about the unexpected and off center that keeps you looking...it's intriguing. Opposite's attract. Asymmetrical cardigan paired with the very straight lines of the plaid. Both can create very different looks; a very fresh weekend, casual image or worn with a suit, the shell compliments both so well.

Backdrop elbow sleeve asymmetric cardigan (charcoal) $75

Plum sleeveless shell crepe print top (black, blue or purple) $45

It may or may not be intentional but like it or not, you are always wearing your personal style.  Plum's philosophy is that it should always be intentional. Whether deeply devoted to your personal style or still, after many years, creating one, it's all fun exploration of yourself. Maybe it even regularly changes. Just remember, if you walk in the footprints of others, you won't make any of your own!

who owns 200 scarves?

Category:

Plum's owner Katie O'Brien owns over 200 scarves; some forgivably are not current as they go back to the turn of the century (the previous one)! She wears one every day...they are her signature! But maybe you say "Suzanne I don't have a fashionable bone in my body"...or you simply have no time to invest in making creative looks! Poppycock I say! Scarves are THE easiest, least expensive way to funk up your wardrobe, create a look and change an outfit!! And Plum (thanks to the Scarf Queen), has a fantastic selection! Here's a sampling of what's available:

ImageImage

While there is arguably not a lot of colour, this scarf is great in a multitude of ways. It's large enough to double as a shawl. I held it up and it covered my entire doorway. The neutrality of the black and off white means almost any other colour you choose will work with it, If you're adventurous, put it together with a carefully chosen pattern. Or, add a belt or fedora to the mix, adding to the pizzazz!

Look plaid pattern wool blend scarf  (black, burgundy, yellow) $39 (as seen on front of email)

Image

Maybe you like to stay away from pattern, or, you wear a lot of patterns, and therefore, are looking for an accent, in one colour. This rich hued, open weave scarf might be what you're in search of. Love how it's casually thrown over her shoulders worn with another great earth tone. Features  satin edging and angular edge bottom.

Open weave scarf trimmed (black, burgundy, ivory, rust) $38

Image

Infinity scarves...whomever invented these knew I needed an alternative to necklaces and tired of the ends falling in my soup. Kidding aside this is a beautiful, delicate bohemian/eastern pattern. Pick an unexpected tint from the scarf pattern to draw it out.

Infinity scarf (green, navy or orange) $32

ImageImage

This clever piece is both a shawl and a scarf. Wear it as a shawl, wear it thrown over one shoulder, or wear it to the side, on the hip, fastened with a broach!

Monochrome triangle scarf (black or taupe) $59

Wear them as a shawl, wrap them in different ways, add some colour to a monochromatic look, add earrings, fasten with a pin. So very easy to add some flair and create your very own signature.
