Linen reigns supreme

Linen is a fabric that, in ancient times, would have been worn by the wealthier class of society.  In fact, it was a very important source of trade and commerce.  Which might explain why we're all drawn to it. Of it's many beautiful qualities, durability and breathability insure it's a staple of the season. Plum has, once again, produced some jackets with simply exquisite fits. Lets look at these linen beauties, and what can be paired with them.

Image

Above the beautiful front cover jacket in white. Put together with a black skirt and simple clutch. Linen's usual hue's are ivory, ecru and natural shades, however, this crisp white is such a great, light departure from the usual.

Tobias 100% linen jacket (mustard, black and white)$179

Tobias front flap skirt with buttons (black or off white) $88

Image

Despite it's noble past, linen marries so well with nearly all coordinates.  Dress it up, or dress it down, it can easily replace a simple cardigan so beautifully without appearing too formal.

ImageImage

In keeping with the same, casual, cool vibe, the above tank is a wonderful, lightweight option if you choose to go the informal route. If you feel so inclined to remove your jacket, the back detail does not disappoint.

Kersh flower tank (warm white) $48

This sweet little, feminine dress combined with the linen jacket in mustard is such an airy, easy look. (Simone dresses always abundant in detailing and fit). Change the sandals to sling backs or heels and this look is great for school, the office or a Saturday brunch date.

Simone open back dress (ivory or navy print) $120

Despite Linen's regal history, it invariably provides for as many options as outfits you choose to create. Nefertiti would be envious!

This is so fresh and fun. The graphic print has so many colours, there would be no problem matching shoes, cardigans, shawls or accessories. Or pick out one of the colours for nail polish! The cut is loose and easy and features a v-neck and a very accommodating, stretchy back panel.

Simone racer back dress (2 prints) $110

There is nothing like jersey to accommodate the comfort needs. However, no compromise has been made with regards to fit, fabric choice or design features. A dress for many types of requirements. Gorgeous blossom print, button front keyhole, neckline and pockets complete this design.

Cool and casual... do it right!

Looking 'cool' with a casual, effortless appearance is not as easy as it seems...or is it? There's a fine line between casual and...well, sloppy. The rugged look of aged denim can have a truly negative effect, if, all elements are not taken into account (ie: footwear, accessories, quality). Take a peak at some of what Plum has, that I feel, exemplify 'casual' done right.

Image

Nothing like a statement T to create a look which takes the place of accessories, if uncomplicated is your choice. The simple nature of the t shirt and dark denim, create a fresh image...not much else is needed. However, if adding a necklace is preferred, by all means that would also work without creating something 'too busy'.

Press Boat neck t shirt (white or black) $50

Kersh Open Style Cardigan (9 colours) $59 (Don't forget about the current cardi promo)

Image

Vintage denim creates a personal, lived in feel; like you've worn them for years and made them your own. However, putting together contrasting components, such as very feminine shoes and top, helps avoid the 'I woke up in them' look (not to be confused with the 'I woke up this way' look). The jewelled sweater and heels infuse balance and create a 'funky, cool' vibe.

Mavi Emma Boyfriend dark vintage jean $108

Sydney short sleeved jewelled French terry top (coming soon).

Image

Above (front email) image is just an easy, complete, fresh presentation. The Tobias jacket is 100% linen, which exemplifies spring...light, breezy and natural. This is such a beautifully tailored jacket. Add a graphic t shirt to your vintage jeans and you're set to go.

Tobias 100% linen jacket $169 (as always Tobias is designed and made in Vancouver)

Nümph Macaw tank top (Lt grey Melange) $45

So when it comes to casual, cool comfort (say that 3 times), the factors required for looking carefree and not careless with your style are somewhat elementary....balance...which essentially is all about life in general...wouldn't you agree?

What's new in dresses for spring?

Dresses are at the top of what I instinctively look for whenever I go shopping for a new season. Plum is my first stop. Not only do they start with a fit model that generally has the most common proportions but the many years of experience of the pattern makers means different designs must be made to fit exactly right before anything goes into production.  After the dresses are produced and out to the stores everyone in the company has tried them on to see exactly how they fit the huge variety of bodies working for Plum so they know how they will fit the customers.

So let’s take a look at some of the styles for Spring 2015!

The dress featured on the email will satisfy all dress requirements. Beautiful, sexy, comfortable and requires no ironing, thus travels well. You should try this on.

Image

If you're searching for something to kick off spring with a bang, this is where to start. Going to a cocktail party, this dress is a perfect choice, a casual date, this dress fits the bill. Speaking of fit, this dress feels so good on. I can say this because I've tried it myself.

Simone knit dress with criss cross back (black or navy dot) $110

Image

Feeling a bit like Julie from 'Mod Squad' circa 1970 (TBT) then this is the dress. Beautifully lined, v-neck front, sleeveless dress with zippered pockets. Comprised of 97% cotton with a hint of stretch for ease of movement.

Simone colour blocked shift dress with drop waist (blue or beige) $139

Image

Perhaps you lean more towards something less fitted, allowing for more movement, maybe you like to dance. Such a sweet, retro feel dress. I love it with the T strap heels, but, for fun would pair it with my Doc Martens, for a casual funky, ecclectic look. Why not!

Simone button front shirt dress (beige or black print) $139

Image

There are times when your image needs to be polished, neat and professional looking. What I like about this sheath dress is, the finishing details. The exposed zipper just brings it up a notch, giving it that unique edge. Fully lined, back zip, back slit, sleeveless dress. Looks simply stunning in ivory.

Simone sheath dress with zipper detail (black, ivory and royal) $139

Plum does not disappoint, kicking off the spring season with a gorgeous selection of dresses. So great to know you're wearing something that is unique, exclusive to Plum, and designed and made right here in Vancouver.

Dress to impress yourself...because if you're impressed, so will everyone else be.

Get that black skinny-jean look...

If I told you that your black pants would stay black after washing them, you'd either laugh, or suspect I was inhaling paint fumes. Frustrating when we spend the time to find just the right fit, we then begrudgingly wash them and they are just never the same. After all, if we wanted grey pants, wouldn't we just purchase grey ones? DISH JEANS was listening and has answered our black pant prayers! They've created a patent pending fabric with 'unparalleled colour-lock technology'. After 20 washes, there is no colour fading!

Let's have a look at how great they look with everything:

Image

And note that 'skinny' is no longer just for the very very slender. It's now constructed to accommodate curves and the 'thin at heart'. What a stunning ensemble. Not too complicated, yet enough interesting details to draw the eye in the right direction.

Plum zip front fitted jacket $185

Plum lace back, shark bite hem top $59

Image

Of course for the casual, busy days, chasing children or browsing though best sellers...easy to pair with your favourite jean jacket and pimsolls. The black, skinny pant goes everywhere. Probably best to buy more than one pair, because now, you won't hesitate to wash them.

Mavi Samantha Jean jacket (dark vintage) $108

Nanavatee stripe tank top (various colours) $35

Image

The best marriage (apart from your own) is red and black. Red lipstick, black hand bag, or of course, as above with fetching red pumps!

Tobias black 2 button jacket $179 (made locally)

Image

Above ,Dish jeans paired with a bejeweled stripe top. Forgo the accessories if you wish, this sweater has embellishments to mirror the twinkle in your eye! Also so easy to change footwear with this; merely change to pumps for a night out, or ankle booties.

Tobias jacket and Sydney stripe top (coming soon) $85

So glad that the denim manufacturers have heard us, 'we want comfort and style' and they delivered and now black that won't fade. Could comfortable heels be far behind?

50 shades of black...is still black

In my opinion, February needs a bit of a kick in the butt. Doesn't February make you feel like you would like to go to sleep and not wake up until June? Perhaps it's the endless blocks of pedestrians tempting fate with the head to toe black (and of course the rain). Whatever it is, a titillating movie (and maybe a kick in the wardrobe department), might help the mood a bit. The current movie choice is fairly obvious but Plum can help cure the doldrums in the wardrobe department.

Take a look at some Plum picks...

Image

How fresh, pretty and romantic looking is this? Ultra feminine with a peak of lace (cami) beneath. Add (as above) a statement piece or a collection of eclectic necklaces as the twist neckline would welcome.

Plum front draped top (black, champagne, periwinkle) $79

Image

This is such a wardrobe basic. Basic white t shirt, jacket of choice and (as above) a pair of super comfortable jeans and you're set. Add or subtract accessories if you're feeling so inclined.

Nanavatee asymmetrical slub cotton t shirt (white, hot melon, khaki) $35

Mavi jogger comfort jean (dark sporty) $98

Tobias 2 button jacket (black) $179

ImageImage

Perhaps a great choice for Anastasia for her interview with Christian? Undeniably a great corporate look or even a date (as seen in the front of the email). Black and white together are clearly a great combination, however, any other colour will co-ordinate. Sometimes we're just too busy to construct a complex look, in which case, this works perfectly well as it is.

Tobias zip front fitted jacket (black, ivory) $185  Did you know that Plum now has online sales? www.plum.ca

I think when Drabuary rolls around, we all need a bit of a perk.  Injecting a bit of white into your wardrobe is such an uncomplicated way. And you never know, you might just happen to meet a billionaire (or look like you are one)!
