Feel good-look good-stay safe! Purchase in a Plum store or here online

Lighten up! Seriously. I know what you're thinking my Plum lovelies. Why am I hearing from her again this week! Because this is an important topic, as the time changes, inevitably it gets darker earlier. And according to an annual road safety report between the years of 2010 and 2016 worldwide road fatalities decreased slightly. Great! However, sadly Canada is included in a less impressive statistic. One of seven countries where pedestrian deaths increased. And what can a clothing company do? Help you lighten up! Yes, brighten up. And what to wear with your white scarf? A PULSE!!! We cannot control the drivers but we can control how they see us. So get yourself and others you care about into a white scarf! Be bright, be safe, be seen!
Image
I am not an umbrella person, I tend to leave them everywhere, however I usually tuck away a hat in my bag. On the occasion when I've neglected to include one, at this time of year I most often don a scarf. Enter the second use for the scarf. If the murky sky above starts to erupt, your scarf now becomes a hood as well.

This cozy lovely checkered coat is another great pick. Needless to say a perfect compliment to the white scarf. Yet another example of what can help you be more visible. Also a great length for most skirts or dresses.

Aren't we lucky on the west coast. Not always cold enough for a coat, but a sweater will do, this is super cozy and plush, with plenty of autumnal stripe colours.

The use of white in textiles in history usually carryies with it a meaning of lightness, new starts as in the colour most often worn by a bride or the Khata ceremonial scarf symbolizing purity and compassion. Plum has more fundamental reasons. Be safe in the dark and be seen!

From here to eternity

What to wear when we get to the 'other' side (you know, the afterlife!)? White of course. Because it's the prevailing colour worn by all the best ex-people, ghosts, angels, Gandhi, albeit passed on, however, still great! It's the tone that provokes feelings of lightness, optimism and freshness! And to state the late, old English meaning 'a highly luminous colour devoid of chroma'... But why wait for the hereafter! Let's look at some of what Plum has for your spirited personality and what goes well with it!

ImageImage

Wearing white WITH white is definitely not necessary, unless you're Sonny Crocket from Miami Vice. After all, when you're presented with a colour...(erm,or...non colour), your choices are absolutely endless. Where black, arguably has some limitations, the doors are wide open for choices with white! And never to disappoint, Second's Yoga jeans have retained their commitment to fit and comfort, colour or not!

Yoga highrise skinny ankle jeans (white) $138

Plaid is an excellent choice, when your aim is to create somewhat of a casual look. Wear it open with a plain t, or even add a graphic t for a mixed pattern look. Or, button it up and add a funky, boho, statement necklace. Plum, as always, has a wonderful selection of accessories.

Sneak Peak plaid shirt (red plaid) $69

I've expressed my adoration for kimono's on multiple occasions, and this one is another bulls eye. Unlike a lot of others, this one has a less voluminous cut, however, with side slits for easy movement.

En Creme long kimono (white/black) $79

Image

Maybe you're not that interested in showing the 'junk' in your 'trunk' area (bum!) I completely understand. Then give this tunic a try. With a decidedly relaxed, somewhat exotic look, creating a very easy look.

En Creme tunic with hoody (blue/white) $65

Oh, move over Barry White, this is just as sexy as it gets...a knit top with ruffle along the neckline, and an artistic, water colour looking front.

Cream bird print knit top (white/pink/grey) $69

White pants in summer turns up the notch on the sophistication dial. While they are a denim cut, white adds a certain 'I'm too cool for colour' factor! It creates a bold, yet at the same time, simple, refined presentation. Don't let stains worry you...there is always white wine!

If white was the only colour in existence or straight was the only shape. Just think... sunsets would be blindingly white, rainbows or red lipstick would be non existent and my beloved black...gone? (gasp!)  What about straight...no more curly hair, round emoji's or forget about envying Beyonce or Jlo's posterior! A world without variation, vibrant colour or shape. Impossible, disturbingly dull, depressing and unthinkable. AND thankfully, just not how it actually is! Let's look at some colours and shapes:

Talk about shape. This is a great silhouette for walking into fall. And of course Yoga jeans are the best of them. Really authentic denim finish, but the bonus...so comfortable you could sleep in them. But why...better to strut in them!

Another one of my personal favourite colours is grey. Often overlooked and frowned upon by it's resemblance to fog and gloominess...however, it doesn't conjure up images of funeral processions or witches hats like it's cousin black, and still serves as a sleek backdrop for other colours to coordinate with. You name it, it will match! And shape? That's all you!

Simone sleeveless a-line dress (black, grey, plum or silver) $135

And how is this for colour? The Kersh cardigan, comes in seven luscious fall colours. And of course the beauty of the cardigan is that it transfers so seamlessly from season to season. Layer it under a jacket, belt it or just bring it along 'just in case'. Or buy one for a friend who's always cold!

Kersh ribbed waist cardigan (7 colours) $58

Still not ready to abandon the white? There is no reason to do so. When worn with any other colour, white has the ability to bring out the best in all coordinating colours. This beautiful blouse is simply crying out for a fabulous necklace and an arm full of bangles.

Fall colours ...easy fresh style #yvrfashion

If you're simply not able to hone in on one colour of choice, this top is a good solution, comprised of the majority of the fall pallet all in one. A simple, easy style with a modern print, somewhat looking like a close up, pixilated photo.

acapella shell top with curved hem (blue or orange print) $55

Colours, shapes, sizes and differences...I cannot imagine life without vibrant red strawberries, my black Labrador retriever, pink pearl erasers or my favourite berry that only comes in blue.. like life without music. And for anyone who believes that creating more variations on something obliterates the original; think about this...white does not diminish because of the presence of black, it's enhanced by it. And vise versa!

When white seems right

The power of wearing white! So easy to recognize....think...a doctors lab coat, the cricketers uniform, the blushing bride...However, back in the day ('the day' being the 16th century), white was typically worn by French Queens representing mourning. It was not until Mary Queen of Scots married her first husband, she chose white as she felt it was her most flattering colour. And why not; it's bright, it's fresh and it goes with everything. Which is why diamonds are a girls best friend!

Image

I have a tendency to want to scotch guard myself (is that still a product?) when wearing white. However, why should the fear of stains hold us back? After all there are multiple stain removing methods and products. My favourite among them is this:  Merely hold the spot of your garment tightly over a bowl, carefully pour boiling water over the stain and watch it drip out of the fibers and into the bowl. This method works with wine, juice and berry stains. Love this, as there are no chemicals. So go forth and immerse yourself in white (and have another glass of Merlot)!

Mavi Adrianna glam white rinse $118 now at $89

This is just an utter show stopper! Just a breath of extra layer, with gorgeous embroidery detail. Wear it with destroyed jeans or even a tank dress. Just a few of many possibilities.

Cream sheer embroidered blouse $79

Image

Maybe a fresh crisp blouse is your preference. White offers so many possibilities as, it's like a blank slate, adding colours is a total breeze. With the lovely detailing here, it still offers the possibility of just wearing it as is. Or build on the vintage look of the eyelet!

Cream Zina pintuck blouse $99

Because mosquito's would have more access to your beautiful skin, is no reason to pass up this great sweater. Just slightly out of the ordinary with slight open work giving that little extra something.

French Connection sweater (black or white) $68

White is kind of the 'smile' of the colour palate, people just naturally give you a head tilt and lighten up when you sport a bit of white, be it a big toothy grin, a diamond (yes please) or a garment. So don't be afraid of white, it's the colour of comforting things, our pillows, sugar for our tea or Gramma's hair.

What's blacker than black?

What's blacker than black? Please let me know if you find something as I'm a big 'void of colour' fan. At the risk of looking like I'm attending a funeral daily, I attempt to infuse other elements as I find it's a sensationally easy way to integrate separates. That being said, they say ones colour preference is a key to our personality. White, for instance, frequently implies calm, innocence and simplicity.  I love white but I don't possess any of those qualities. They (whoever they is) say we often feel colours more than see them. Let's get touchy feely then:

Image

With all the elegance of a white swan, this beautiful top will make you flow with grace, or...make you feel like one. Why this is such a sought after style? White literally will go with every other colour; makes for a fresh style when paired with jeans but easily can go from fun to function when paired with a pencil skirt and very trans-seasonal.

Kersh cap sleeve lace top (cream) $65

Image

By contrast red has a feel of power, strength, impulsiveness and boldness. And perhaps you're looking to inject energy or positivity into your life.  In many eastern cultures it's the symbol for good luck. This would be the ideal colour of choice in which case. Not many other colours turn heads in the way red does.

Very J curved hem t shirt (charcoal, off white or wine) $59 now $42

Image

Gazing up at a clear blue sky, often creates a sense of calm and relaxation. This is one of blue's main qualities, along with reliability, inner security and sense of confidence. This dress steps out of these qualities a bit into a more forward thinking, creative place with it's flowey, gathered front.

Simone scoop neck tunic dress (black, burgundy or teal) $110 now $79

Image

Grey, an often overlooked and viewed as dull, colour has more than meets the eye with qualities it brings. Grey is dependable, and practical but also elegant and refined. And how to look like a super hero in this fabulous poncho? Add this great belt for definition and don't shy away from a pendant or even an infinity scarf.

Soya Concept Polonia poncho (charcoal) $89

Image

Last but not least my favourite pick; I laughingly say implies seriousness, authority and responsibility (one out of three isn't bad). Conversely, can also display a more 'I'm with the band' look. The above dress is a very fitting seasonal piece with the burnout velvet texture and swing shape, which helps downplay the severity of black.

Kersh velvet burnout swing mini dress (black) $79

Charcoal is beautiful to an artist because it's his tool to creating artwork, green is beautiful to a gardener because it's his passion, yellow to the bus driver as she drives her children to school....but when we all look up at a rainbow, we all smile....
