black is the new black

This week Plum has an irresistable in store only special. The Military jacket or colored Yoga jeans until Nov 11th only $ 99 each.

Lets talk about colour...or lack thereof...depending on your viewpoint. Black. The often frowned upon, viewed as morose, not even recognised as a colour...colour! How is it possible to not like something that does not exist....anyway far too philisophical! I say, black is great!  Black goes well with just about every other colour, has a reputation for being slimming,  plays off accessories so well,  brings up the casual nature of denim and is often viewed as a 'go to'colour for 'formal attire' affairs. Let's take a look at some 'black' variations that Plum has to offer.

 Image

So, to kick off the 'blacktivities'....this a-mazing ponte jacket. Granted it is a slender cut and provides a very fitted look, yet still it's a great siloutte for most. One of Plum's most beloved jacket designs, it's been brought back multiple times because of it's great fit. Lined, stand up collar, 7 button, 2 front pockets and made of a delicious ponte fabric, that make it just so easy to wear!

Tobias military jacket (black, khaki) until Nov. 11 in store special only ($ 99)

Image

Undeniably, totally wearable stripes for all. The sleek cut of this cardigan-come-dress (?), simply sends an invitation for a belt, or a 'can't take my eyes off you', necklace. I love how it's lovely and long, yet provides lots of visibility with the sheer interspersed stripes.

Lumiere long cardigan $ 65 (black, burgundy)

Image

Butterfly take flight. Yes I'm aware there are no such things as black butterflies...well now there are. There's you. Again, delightful details on this top. And really, this is now what it's all about. Black can have personality merely with a bit of a print, a texture or added lace detail. Yet still offering the ability to create your own style, using the black as the contrasting background. Everything seems to show up better against a black background!

Soyaconcept knit dotted top $ 75

Image

Once again, it's really all in the detail. The lace in this has just divine, exquisite detail. And with it's very slim, fitted nature, you'll feel more feminine than would a bouquet of roses from your boyfriend (almost). Today with a blazer and boyfriend jeans and pumps, tomorrow with a pencil skirt and knee high boots? Plus every woman loves a bit of lace (or roses).

Fate lace top $ 79 (black)

Image

Top it off with something edgy, Something Joan Jetson would wear (throwback Thursday)? This one has a decidedly futuristic feel. Mesh carries over to the back yoke. And the collar showcases a quite intricate, unique detailed edge. Compliment the black with another colour tank beneath, red flashy bra or nothing at all. I dare you! ;)

Fate mesh top $ 82

No longer just for somber occasions, funerals or formal affairs, black just helps creates a new outfit each time. And really, what colour does not go with this supposed non colour? And on that note, to go with your 'blacktastic' piece...do not forget about the in store special.

Don't pass up an oportunity to get this great Military jacket now until Nov. 11 $ 99. And at this price, match them with the coloured Yoga denim. Also on special for $ 99.

Being first means, usually people will follow you...For me, at least, the only thing better than chocolate, not requiring diaper changes, is new arrivals. Isn't getting something first such a rush? Don't mind people following your lead or looking for a way to freshen up some portion of your wardrobe? Perhaps you are also a first-a-holic...Do you like to be first in line, first to receive something, first to wear the new thing....whatever the case may be? Plum can easily feed that 'new arrivals' addiction. While Plum's merchandiser might not be 'first born' in her family, rest assured, she's definitely first at discovering new labels, capturing new trends, interesting style features, fabrics and accessories.

Below a few of Plum's recent arrivals...

Image

Hard to tell if this is a dress or a tunic. And so, in trying to figure this out, it's now become 2 garments!  This is such a unique design because it reminds me of a vneck vest, yet has all the makings of a very feminine form fitting dress. Vneck, wool blend, egyptian print with a very defined waist feature is above the knee in length. Just gorgeous! So many ways to incorporate this into your existing wardrobe with it's incredible fall color palate.

Kerisma wool blend Cleo sleeveless dress $ 149

Image

Fun is the best way to describe this sweater. And no, no combing is required for maintenance! So soft to the touch, be prepared for plenty of tactile attention. Features an open front with hook and eye neck closure.

Beulah style fuzzy sweater in Vanilla Milkshake $ 99

Image

What a fetching little number! I had to show the back view because frankly, it has pretty written all over it with that back detail. Can you not see this translating from daytime activities (whatever they may be) to evening? Comprised of a simply amazing stretch knit fabric, featuring a very well concealed side zip and a completely easy to match black/white floral print (or solid option). As if the fabrics wonderful stretch was not enough, it features a very stretchy below the waist lining. So, on that note, you can leave the spanx in the lingerie drawer if you wish. ;)

Simone cap sleeve dress black/white or burgundy $ 139

Don't forget Plum's own labels (Simone and Tobias) are designed and made in Vancouver. When they're designed and made so locally, it can take no time to go from conception to arrival (no pun intended).

Stay tuned for more..........

cool companions

Remember the coupon offer. Time is running out.

Neck wrap with minimum $ 200 (before taxes) purchase offer valid only while quantities last.

What is toast without jam, mornings without coffee, wine without cheese or Simon without Garfunkle (forgive the throwback). My point being, what goes better with a coat than scarves...Don't you just naturally reach for one, once you put on your coat? It feels like, something needs to be hugging your neck to complete the look.

To assist in your quest to find a companion for your coat, below is a taste of what Plum has in store:

Image

Destined to be a beloved staple for years to come this neutral color can merge well with any canvas. It's basic nature helps to break up any monochromatic look or offset any color your coat has to offer. Add a great, bold lipcolor and you're ready to go.

Melange ivory fringe scarf $ 36

Image

Maybe something lighter with a rather eastern flair, alternating blue/cream short fringe with paisley design.

Paisley scarf with tassles $ 32

Image

Maybe you need something which provides more of a neck cuddle (is that such a thing?). It does a good job of faking a hand made scarf from your granny! Well, maybe Granny didn't make it, but someone did! Right?;)

Aztek chunky infinity scarf $ 36

Image

This adds a lovely hint of fun with a bit of fall color play. Once you take off your coat, you can still leave the scarf as it's light in weight and can easily compliment any of your fall outfits.

Plaid fringed out scarf $ 32

Scarves play a great role in pulling together an outfit, whether it's inner or outter wear (or both) providing, at times, a much needed finishing touch. The other great advantage to scarves is, while they don't require a huge outlay of cash, they rarely go out of style and are a great investment (especially since they don't require hemming). So, go ahead, play match maker for your coat. Plum has plenty of options.

ps..don't forget about the coupon. Good until Oct.26, 2014. Don't miss out.

Two great promotions:

While supplies last, spend a minimum of $ 200 before taxes and receive a neck wrap (7 color options)

And

receive a $ 20 coupon when you spend $ 95

Unless your name is 'Lennox' and you're a furnace or 'Joseph' and you have an amazing technicolor dream coat, at this time of year in Canada, you'll probably start to need a coat. Possibly different weights and perhaps different colors, but what I learned long ago is, you're unlikely to find one coat for all your fashion and outterwear requirements. So, on that note, Plum, as always, has provided us with some great investment, outterwear options.

  Image

The pea coat; a time honored style.  This one, slightly longer in length than the usual and double breasted with crest buttons.  Looks great with skinny jeans, a knee length dress or maxi. Such a beautifully fitted, tailored feel.

Tobias wool blend Pea Coat (black, olive or grey) $ 298

Image

What a sensational coat. Usually I have my hands full of kid things so, I find the collar clip hardware not only functional but a point of interest. This coat covers all the bases; it's drapey design is fashion forward, the boiled wool blend is light weight, keeps you abundantly warm and layering is never an issue with it.

Tobias boiled wool blend asymetic coat (black, navy, chocolate) $ 249

Image

Possibly you fancy a bit of nostalgia (cover of email). This feels a bit like the 50's, with the shawl collar, large, one button and above knee length. So great with everything, dresses, pants, any length of skirt or a thick sweater underneath. Plum's designer brings this classic up to 'now' with the color block sleeves.

Tobias shawl collar wool blend coat (Olive/black, grey/black and black) $ 275

Image

A fully functional coat. Ready to serve you weekend after weekend, rain, sleet, baby spit, you name it. "Shake it off", as Taylor Swift would say....Fleece interior, double ended zipper, zip pockets and drawstring hood.

Soyaconcept zip coat (black) $ 110

It looks like Plum has it all covered.

sweater promotion

Don't we all know people who talk incessantly on the same subject? Soon, you'll be saying this to me! Enough about sweaters. However, when it's a 4 day promotion - Oct. 2-5, 2014, maybe you'll overlook my repetition.

Image

This is a great way to wear this wonderful sweater. Cinching in the waist with a belt helps define and break up the look, adding interest at the midpoint. Personally speaking, sometimes I need things to keep my accessories out of my soup! But that's just me! ;)

Look fringe sweater $ 40

Image

Cardigans are great for warmth; typically we grab one in a solid color to compliment the rest of the outfit. Why not try one with a trace of color options. Wear it with all black or pull out one of the colors to co-ordinate your bottoms. So many options can be worked from this one.

Yumi wool blend Pom pom cardigan $ 80

Image

I once had a cat, this option is far less maintenance (and attitude).  Soft crew neck

'grumpy cat' pullover in acrylic/wool blend

by Yumi $ 71

Image

This glorious aztec sweater is a straightforward, loose cut. 3/4 sleeves with ribbing. It really is a very uncomplicated design, as well, quite easy to match with various bottoms. Improvise!

Audrey 3 + 1 100% cotton $ 64

Image

Strike a pose, because this will make your style factor take flight. Features a turtleneck, inverted ribbing on sleeves and a simply beautiful cable knit design.

DKR & Company premium 100% cotton sweater $ 64 (grey/cream or black/grey)

Hopefully,so as not to be too repetitive, I've covered a few more topics this time, pet care, ancient history and etiquette (mine).  Did I leave out finances? With this promotion you need not visit the bank of 'absolutely not'.

All sweaters are 20% off for 4 days only! Do not miss it!

Prices listed above are for 4 days only

This is merely a hint of what is available in store. No quantity restrictions. So stock up! Have a look at some of Plum's great sweater selection. http://plum.ca/i.cfm/p/see/s/f_14#sweaters

cover looks

"All books are judged by their covers, until they are read" Maryrose Wood. Being judged 'is' a fact of life. However, when I feel fully pulled together, I feel as though people see me, my clothing is no longer the focus, because there is no 'one thing' to distract.  For the most part, do you not find that a jacket pulls together the outfit giving a finished look? A key piece. Maybe it's just me but I adore fall and love my jackets.  My collection is growing and I'd sleep in them if I could.

Image

The fabrication and cut of this jacket is simply exquisite. Most often I find the sleeves of jackets rather large and bulky; these are just perfectly tailored. Don't be fooled by the slightly longer length, falling below thigh level. I've worn mine with jeans and doc's and have seen it worn with a knee length skirt and funky ankle boots. So deceptively versatile, creating a multitude of outfits from one piece, taking you from work, to weekend brunch. It's really a 'try on' must!

Tobias equestrian long jacket (comes in black or grey) $ 220

Image

Isn't this a fun outfit? Yet so doable for a work environment; of course depending on the nature of the business. I love the skinny pants paired with the dangerous heels.

Image

This classic notched collar blazer is so transferrable and convertable. My favorite weekend outfit is (as above) jeans, t shirt and 'the blazer.'  Just so simple and pulled together looking (but comfortable as well).  Just add whatever bit of your own personality you like (scarf, hat) your mood gets to choose.

Tobias notch collar jacket with patch pockets $ 179

The length of the jacket, however, often dictates the balance of co-ordinating pieces. Such as how long the skirt, pants or top would best be to look balanced head to toe. When in doubt, Plum staff are only too happy to help with deciphering the possible perplexities of proportions (say that 3 times). This is a mere whiff of the jackets Plum has in store. There is one for everyone (or 3, if you're me). And so beautifully made and designed; will remain your favorites for years to come (as long as you don't sleep in them).

Plum's Tobias jackets are designed and constructed right here in Vancouver and many have co-ordinating pants and skirts. Take a look at some of Plum's other jackets.
