new arrivals

The origins of the word cool…stated in Wikipedia as "aesthetic of attitude", somewhat predictably evolved in the 30’s during the jazz era. Sometimes, it’s a quality easy to describe, but sometimes verbally it’s too hard to define! In dress or fashion, it's perhaps the look of ‘meh’ I don’t care , but secretly I do, but it needs to look like I don’t…confused yet? BUT... there is the other meaning…temperature…so, whether you’re going back to cool, school or even Liverpool, perhaps it’s good to look at something for the plummeting temperatures AND raising of suave!

ImageImage

On the cheat sheet for looking cool, this would be at the top of the list, aged looking jeans, easy fresh shirt and a white jean jacket, oh...and don't forget the Converse. If the kicks are too casual, these jeans are excellent for either working in the garden or a casual weekend look, a change of footwear is all it takes! OR what could be cooler than one of the new Frida tops

Mavi Ada boyfriend jean - for 4 days until August 25 $ 82.60

Runway Frida Kahlo blouse $ 59

Image

While there are other denim cuts trending, there's still room for the skinny jeans. And if you haven't taken the plunge yet...give them a go. There's definitely a way to wear them that's not provocative. Just casual and uncomplicated, as above...you know, like you'd like your life to be!

Yoga Rachel hirise skinny (dark indigo) for 4 days until Aug 25 $91

Image

I actually don't care if this is cool or not, I think it's gorgeous. I love the flow and drape of the kimono; casual, exotic/boho. Yet another co-ordinate that flows from extremely casual, like breakfast on your patio to an evening on a restaurant patio. And it comes in two patterns, a lighter print that's perfect for now or the one above which is great well into fall!

Mahila Arabella kimono (floral or grey print) $95

Image

This look definitely has that overt look of 'what you think of me, is none of my business'. Regardless, these cargos are so comfortable and very easy to match with other colours.

Mavi Juliette smoke camouflage (smoke grey camo) for 4 days until Aug 25 $82.60

ImageImage

There's something very 'I Dream of Jeanie' about this, perhaps the ethereal nature of the silk fabric. It's really good to think ahead, be prepared for upcoming affairs...I mean...events!

Meo Meli silk over jersey slip dress (black, denim, blue or red) $119

I'm pretty sure I don't need to explain what cool is, either in attitude, dress or verbal skills. When you got it, you got it, when you don't... walk tall and pretend whatever it is you're wearing 'IS' the new trend. Because, frankly confidence is always cool!

NEW ARRIVALS ARE HAPPENING NOW!!

Really...who wears shorts in winter? Except maybe your boyfriend or the guy from UPS? I remember my Mother recounting to me stories of my Father shoveling snow in below zero weather... 'maybe' wearing a jacket. Is wearing shorts or short sleeves in winter 'a thing'? Truthfully, the majority of people wearing shorts in winter are heading south...spot them in the security lineup at the airport, fully ready to get out of the cold and into the warm! And if that happens to be you, make a detour to Plum first; well known for having the best selection of resort wear. Get to your destination fully ready to do nothing but sit, enjoy, relax.

Image

Forget about digging out, musty old, out of season clothing. Go shopping. Go home, move garments from shopping bag to travel bag...one and done! Easy. If you select well, you can just go with carry on. T shirts are a must have and Plum has an excellent variety to choose from.

Michelle California print t shirt (white) $42

ImageImage

And then there's the tank dress....easy to put on; belt it if you prefer a more accessorized look. And with a simple change of your footwear, and jewelry, and maybe hair up, moves into evening for dancing or dining.

Wink Wink tank dress with curved hem (black, mocha, mulberry or navy) $79

ImageImage

Wherever you're headed...there will be 'night'! Sundown 'will' happen and you'll need at least a light cover. Comprised of viscose this is so flowing, light and easy. No buttons...and very long.

acapella oversized open shawl (black, natural or navy) $79

Image

If you're a pants person, do not pass these up. With the effortless flow of rayon, these are going to be your go to pants for the entire season, not just vacation. Long, wide legs, pockets and a truly rudimentary print these will be a breeze to co-ordinate.

Stevie wide leg pant 100% rayon (black print) $77 IN STORES NEXT WEEK

I may not be headed south or someplace warm and void of precipitation, but I do love what's new and fresh and this is just a hint of what Plum has received for Spring. If you're like me and do not like missing out on your size and colour of choice, be the first to get in and check out what's new and needed.

ps...enjoy your trip!

As you know, all spring and summer stock is up to 60% off...head into a location near you to check out the great deals already in progress.

Do you stare longingly out of your office window (if you have one) at the beaming summer heat and those that wander by in flip flops? No, me neither, I really enjoy the air conditioning...But I must say, I envy the casual wardrobe. This morning sadly, I rode off on my bike so quickly I forgot my work shoes. Thus I must hide my feet all day like they were infectious! In most workplaces, it's just not that cool to wear flip flops to work.  However, there are ways to bring the summer into the workplace without creating two distinct wardrobes.

Image

Blouses are often thought of as something best kept for the office, school or an interview. However, the one above is so pretty, light and offers a wingspan that makes movement (maybe some fun dance moves?)...pretty enticing.

Image

Pencil skirts are such a consistently great option for an office setting. They're easy to pair up and this one specifically fits divinely with abundant stretch. The botanical print is so fresh and summery! And no reason this cannot be part of your weekend wardrobe worn with espadrilles and wide brim hat. (Also has a wonderful matching top)

Image

Graphic t's have become mainstream enough that they appear more and more often in the office. However, choose wisely... the 'NAP QUEEN' or 'FREE HUGS' won't help promote your credibility. Or, maybe date night; change into distressed jeans and heels and (as above) a funky clutch. Still chic but with a sprinkle of fun.

Image

Wanting to keep things simple, comfortable, yet stylish, feminine and professional...this dress crosses over the boundary from workplace to weekend so seamlessly (super stretchy fabrication, shirred back and comfortable length). Seen above with sandals; worn with sling backs or Mary Janes and a lightweight blazer or short cardigan, this will get lots of time outside of the closet!

Summer is here, maybe time off is limited. But that doesn't mean you can't enjoy the levity of the seasonal wardrobe... light, pretty and often colourful. If in doubt about what is appropriate in your office place, observe what your Supervisor wears...unless he's male, in which case, speak to HR!

"Changes"

Until Jan.31, 2016 you could win your online purchase. View the resort wear collection and details here.

The year has begun on a slightly sad note with the loss of David Bowie. A visionary, an explorer of sound and style. One lesson passed on by the icon was don't remain stagnant, try something new, explore, investigate. He did this regularly but without loosing his elegance and signature sound! So we begin a new year, January, the month where struggling to zip up our pants is an Olympic event. A perfect time to check out what's new for the season and the year. Change is in the air!

Image

Start off 2016 with a bouquet of yellow carnations and large polka dots. Pump up the happy with sleeves that emulate the wingspan of a humming bird. Great way to knock down the seriousness of your office suit.

Acapella (made in Vancouver) cape blouse (red or yellow) $85

ImageImage

Speaking of suits, if your staple jacket ends up in the washing machine by a well meaning spouse....(did I say that out loud?), it's likely time to replace it. Rock it up with broken down denim, or put it together with it's matching pants for work. A wardrobe basic.

Tobias (made in Vancouver) 2 button jacket (black or charcoal) $189

Tobias (made in Vancouver) slim leg pant (black or charcoal) $95

Image

The pattern of this blouse hints at the 70's era. A great look for the adventurous. Love it paired with the long vest, but lends a good, bold spark to the suit jacket as well.

Acapella (made in Vancouver) sleeveless blouse (ecru or yellow) $59

Kerisma Percy long cardigan (black or white) $79

Image

"Time may change me..."....Once again, a basic style tank invites the fun in with the allover print grandfather clock (or cat) print.

Acapella scoop neck tank top (ivory (cats) or blue (grandfather clocks)) $49

Plum has a wide variety of choices, made right here in Canada, which makes spending our bungee jumping Canadian dollars right here, an easy choice.  And if it is time for some change...in the words of the inventor of avant garde himself..."I don't know where I'm going from here, but I know it won't be boring" David Bowie.

new arrivals...the first hint of fall!

Note that Plum's dress and jacket designs are produced in limited quantity, do not miss out on your size or colour by pondering too long.

New arrivals. And no, I do not mean the relatives at the airport with luggage, or your sister's new baby. I mean, fashion, fresh new styles to make your mouth water. Remember the smell of the new Barbie or the new car smell? How excited we get when we purchase new makeup and can't wait to get it home to try it on? Well, the wait is over. Fall fashions are already in the store waiting to bring home. Warm weather aside, there are plenty of things to wear now. But maybe you're like me, and want to be prepared for the weather change.

ImageImage

I adore this blouse...It has an air of vintage with the stunning botanical abundant rose images. I had to show you the back, it's simply stunning. So, light and airy. A great addition to anyone's wardrobe, this  is very transeasonal.

Plum oversize capsleeve blouse with back button (green or blue print) $ 75

Image

A dress that is truly fashion fun. This print is so whimsical, a splatter of black and grey colours allover. Fully lined and features an exposed zip back, curved hem and elbow length sleeves. Totally fresh!

Simone shift dress 3/4 sleeve. (ivory/black or black/ivory) $129

Image

Since it's almost time to put your pants back on.....you know what I mean...since we've been immersed in dresses and shorts all summer! These are an excellent choice. Made of a fabulous rayon combination, they're so incredibly stretchy, feels like you could do a workout in them...(or perhaps just a nice walk)! Zip front, belt loops, ankle length with side insert.

Tobias stretchy pant with contrast side (black or charcoal) $94

Image

A blouse with so much potential. Just a great length for skinny jeans, ankle length pants (like the above Tobias pants), belted or open with cami and an eclectic necklace collection. Loads of creative style potential.

Plum long sleeve shirt (black, off white, royal) $82

Having recently had to grieve the loss of some great pieces of clothing that I felt would compliment my existing wardrobe, because of waiting too long to make a decision, someone else is loving them now...I don't wish the same fate for you, therefore go and check out what's arrived already. This is just a taste of what is already arriving.

And if loving fashion is a crime....I plead guilty!
