IT'S FRIDAY FOR 4 DAYS--BLACK Friday that is....head into a nearby Plum location and check out the deals...such as 20% off all jewellery and 40% off regular priced suit jackets! (NOV.22 TO 25)
Why do we need a new black? After all, it's the happiest colour I KNOW! In fact, I couldn't love it more if it was blacker! But why do we need something more new than black? Lets go back a few decades when black was the go to colour for those considered 'in' and 'chic'! Designers, however, felt it was time for another colour that would grab our attention. The phrase was then stolen from, '40 is the new 30' and so on. So what is the new black!? YOU! Yes, whatever YOU choose. Put 'it' on, 'YOU-IFY' it and THAT my beautiful friends, is the new black! Now go and find your new black! (I'll be happy to help! :)
Listen Beyoncé, one way to step up the game on your outfit, is put a blazer on it! Regardless of what it's worn 'with', the jacket gives the look a more stylish appearance. So, if you're looking to help your jeans look a bit more fashion than function, this is a good option. And all regular priced suit jackets are 40% off from Nov.22-25.
Soya Concept drape front jacket (ruby)
While this is not part of the sale, I couldn't help but show it. Gem colours bounce in and out of popularity but now is an excellent time to go for something very much not black. And in the form of a turtleneck, you cannot go wrong with this investment. Dress it up, dress it down or simply layer it for warmth. This is such a rich, regal hue that works so well with opulent jewellery!
Long sleeve turtleneck (6 colours) $36
This very in Spencer + Shaw dress is part of the sale that starts on Thursday (oooh AND select Spencer+Shaw dresses are 50% off). The beauty of this dress is that, it's edgy, fresh and unique and it really doesn't cry out for accessories. BUT if you feel compelled try some really equally bold earrings! All jewellery is 20% off from Nov.22-25
Spencer + Shaw tie front dress (black)
OH, and let us not forget accessories. Sometimes a scarf can go a long way taking a great outfit to the next level of style and giving your look a unique flavor! This lovely little compact faux leather bag will keep you organized, AND it comes in 4 other colours. Scarves, purses and jewellery are 20% off Nov.22-25! Which means you can take a simple LBD and make it into something very you!
KW rose print scarf
Faux leather handbag (6 colours)
I have heard 'giving back is the new black' - 'kindness is the new black' - 'grey is the new black' - 'love is the new black' or my personal favourite 'old is the new black'. I don't know, I just don't think black ever gets old. Not in my life!

Theoretically, it was thought, I'd be a boy, named Tom...and no offense to my deceased uncle but, I'm grateful I came out as is. I have to say, I wrote this while listening to Beyoncé which made me think, just how would I dress if I were a man? Unnecessary, because for decades, I've been drawn to men's jeans, t shirts, hats and jackets. Why? Perhaps because, at least with men's jackets, they provided a better fit, thus were my ideal option (and it was the 80's). Happily now I can draw together the structure of menswear with the fun and flair of women’s wear; and be grateful women’s jackets have transformed to better accommodate our actual shapes.
So it is said, we have a gentleman named Beau Brummell, dating back to the 18th century to thank for at least the men's version of the blazer. For us women, the Suffragettes were responsible for giving it meaning to our actual wardrobe; Yves St Laurent and Chanel punctuating it with style! Whoever it was, I'm grateful. Blazers are my go to garment from Sept to May. Instinctively they are paired with pants but they really wear stunningly well with anything imagined! If you love shirts, this all over print with stripe background makes for a fun coordinate.
Kaffe pinstripe jacket (grey stripe) $149
Kaffe pinstripe pants (grey stripe) $119
B.Young printed button down blouse (off white/mustard) $65
I love bringing together my old love of jackets with my new kimono obsession. I find kimono's and poncho's create a nice layering look while simultaneously assisting with fluctuating temperatures and environments. And pattern mixing gives your wardrobe a bit more latitude AND attitude.
Kaffe relaxed check blazer (grey plaid) $139
Kaffe front zip skirt (grey plaid) $79
KW multi plaid print kimono (black) $59
This jacket has the most genius design features with the pleats and back tie! JUST SAY YES TO THE CURVES! I feel like I've waited 3 decades for someone to incorporate this into a design; along with the shawl collar...MWA!!! love it! Looks just smashing with the plaid pants but also would be fun with destroyed jeans OR a fabulous dress. And may I suggest either this sexy wrap or jumpsuit above as options.
Cream blazer (black or brick red) $149
Kaffe checked pant (black/grey/red) $99
Spencer+Shaw ruffle trim wrap dress (black combo) $149
Wasabi+Mint crisscross cropped jumpsuit (black) $75
Welcome back to the 80's with this slightly retro, boyfriend/relaxed fit jacket. Another one of my favourite jackets this season; the one above as it fits in with the most welcome trend of plaid. This also adds a bit of interest from the otherwise somber presence of (albeit my beloved) black. I've paired it above with this body hugging dress as a nice contrast.
Kaffe checked blazer (black/grey/red) $139
Kaffe checked pant (black/grey/red) $99
Spencer+Shaw v neck 3/4 sleeve knit dress (black or merlot) $129
If I was a boy? I haven't seriously thought of this until I recently was listening to that song. Hm...would I want short hair, to always be stoic, graciously open doors, take out garbage or rake leaves?....ok wait...I already do!

How do you establish if your beloved, much worn suit is dated? Sleeves too wide, are there 'Dynasty' quality shoulder pads. Perhaps, simply put, your body has changed over time and your once 'coveted' 'go to' suit now just feels awkward. The jacket itself has a history going back to the middle ages, however, we need not 'look' middle aged in them (even if we are). Plum has established itself as an expert in jackets and suits, well designed and beautifully crafted pieces that go together or work well with others (like you)!
This is 'by far' one of my all time favourite Tobias jackets. An update of one of last years big hits, I would suggest investing in this one. It provides such a beautiful, long lean look and as above looks amazing with the matching pants. However, it also looks great with a shift dress or funky with jeans and an infinity scarf. I had so much fun creating looks with this.
Tobias 2 button long jacket (black, taupe) $249
Tobias slim pants with side zip (black, taupe) $98
Another fabulous Tobias cut. The beauty of this great design is not only the great take on the military, but it's fabrication. Made of a wonderful blend of rayon, nylon, spandex, it has this outstanding style, with the comfort of a quality stretch fabric.
Tobias Military Jacket (black, charcoal) $195
Perhaps you desire something lighter weight. This drape front, 3/4 sleeve, jacket has emerged as a strong style feature which makes a great style replacement for the ubiquitous cardigan. If you're feeling creative, try belting it otherwise, the unstructured, free flowing nature of this jacket is great as is.
Tobias shawl collar unlined jacket (black, wine) $169
Such a funky, fun, weekend look. Or, perhaps your workplace is creative/casual. So easy to put together with the graphic t, the distressed jeans and sexy booties...watch out world! The jacket itself creates such a gorgeous silhouette, with such subtle but distinct features, that only Tobias styles.
Tobias button front shawl collar jacket (black, charcoal) $195
There are so many jacket styles now and Plum always provides something to suit each need. There is no longer a need to choose between looking polished and looking cool and updating your look does not require an entire wardrobe overhaul. Today's workplace may have changed in many ways but Tobias is consistent and steadfast with it's commitment to quality and design. Their designs are limited quantity so never hesitate when you find 'the one'!

"All books are judged by their covers, until they are read" Maryrose Wood. Being judged 'is' a fact of life. However, when I feel fully pulled together, I feel as though people see me, my clothing is no longer the focus, because there is no 'one thing' to distract. For the most part, do you not find that a jacket pulls together the outfit giving a finished look? A key piece. Maybe it's just me but I adore fall and love my jackets. My collection is growing and I'd sleep in them if I could.
The fabrication and cut of this jacket is simply exquisite. Most often I find the sleeves of jackets rather large and bulky; these are just perfectly tailored. Don't be fooled by the slightly longer length, falling below thigh level. I've worn mine with jeans and doc's and have seen it worn with a knee length skirt and funky ankle boots. So deceptively versatile, creating a multitude of outfits from one piece, taking you from work, to weekend brunch. It's really a 'try on' must!
Tobias equestrian long jacket (comes in black or grey) $ 220
Isn't this a fun outfit? Yet so doable for a work environment; of course depending on the nature of the business. I love the skinny pants paired with the dangerous heels.
This classic notched collar blazer is so transferrable and convertable. My favorite weekend outfit is (as above) jeans, t shirt and 'the blazer.' Just so simple and pulled together looking (but comfortable as well). Just add whatever bit of your own personality you like (scarf, hat) your mood gets to choose.
Tobias notch collar jacket with patch pockets $ 179
The length of the jacket, however, often dictates the balance of co-ordinating pieces. Such as how long the skirt, pants or top would best be to look balanced head to toe. When in doubt, Plum staff are only too happy to help with deciphering the possible perplexities of proportions (say that 3 times). This is a mere whiff of the jackets Plum has in store. There is one for everyone (or 3, if you're me). And so beautifully made and designed; will remain your favorites for years to come (as long as you don't sleep in them).
Plum's Tobias jackets are designed and constructed right here in Vancouver and many have co-ordinating pants and skirts. Take a look at some of Plum's other jackets.

For most of us, buying an entirely new wardrobe every time a new season rolls around just isn't a viable option. How do you stay stylish and current without a complete overhaul? It isn't necessarily about spending more money, it's about taking a new approach to shopping. Shopping with purpose means making deliberate, conscious choices about the clothing you buy. Evaluate your needs (and wants!) at the beginning of each season, set a realistic budget, and then choose the items you want to welcome home to your wardrobe. This shopping strategy is the best way to take a tired wardrobe and bring it back to life!
To get the most bang+confidence+compliments for your buck, find items that take on a completely new look when paired differently - something that can be dressed up and dressed down. My double duty pick this season? The coloured blazer! Right on trend without being "trendy," surprisingly versatile, and a variation on office wear that is fun! What could be finer for spring?
Tobias fitted-jacket, fully lined (striped), in butter (shown) coral, fuscia and jade. $189
Designed and made in Vancouver. Plum skirt (2 prints) stretch lining $85
Striped purse (2 colourways, red-cream & blue cream) $59, Colour blocked purse $55
Mavi Boy Friend Jeans $108
What's your go-to shopping strategy? How are you planning to put it to work this spring?
As always, I love to hear from you here, on our Facebook page, or on Twitter @PlumClothing
