DON'T FORGET about the coupon,(minimum purchase-some restrictions*), still in effect until October 9, get it here
I'm dedicating this weeks blog to my big brother. And what in heaven's blue sky does an older brother have to do with shopping or fashion? Well, his actions reminded me, we don't always purchase clothing for ourselves, sometimes as gifts. As, my brother regularly does things for others, some would say it's his part time job. Recently, he bought Plum gift cards and donated them to a couple who were the victims of theft of all of their worldly goods, having just moved across the country. While precious memories and meaningless trinkets that to us, hold the souls of our loved ones, when lost, cannot be replaced...knowing we have new fresh clothes on our backs...can somewhat lighten the challenge. This morning I didn't yell while ushering the children off to school, and I thought that was tremendous! It seems I should aim slightly higher. ;)
I'm a huge fan of the poncho phase, which appears to not be slowing down. In part because it fills many gaps...they're warm, they look great, they go with most other garments and layer extremely well. This one would make a fantastic gift for someone because of it's ubiquitous fall shades, unique curved, ribbed edge and sleeves and it's universal appeal!
Kaffe Maria poncho (dark grey mix) $89
This season at Plum we're noticing that people are reaching for designs that are unique and different. I can't think of anything that personifies that description more than this 'PURE' Jacquard coat dress. An absolute head turner, but what I also love about this is, it's divine feminine shape.
PURE Jacquard coat dress with asymmetric hem (charcoal or silver) $179
As I mentioned in previous blogs, jumpsuits are massively popular this season. With our harried lives, we often gravitate to what's simplest. While this is classified as easy, I can think of multiple ways to funk this up, if your usual is to be creative. Add a wide belt AND even add a chain belt as well. Or a wide belt and a collection of pendants, or a scarf and the newest trend is embellished boots.
SPRING HAZE 3/4 sleeve jumpsuit (black or olive) $89
Tunics are hugely popular as well currently. Again for their ability to create multiple different types of outfits, as a dress or as a top. Add in the multicolour stripes and it's an equation anyone can figure out.
Point Zero long sleeve swing dress (navy stripe) $79
What is community service to you? To some it entails taking charge of an annual event, to others it means simply checking in on an elderly neighbor regularly. Plum is a huge part of it's community from sponsorships to being regular sponsors of Dress for Success and Big Sisters. And really, reaching out to others, will never go out of style!

I'd like to just take a moment to show my appreciation for my brother, my husband and friends who officially and unofficially invest in their community. Thank you!

Last blog was about staying indoors; avoiding the cold, reinventing ourselves or...just enjoying being inside and warm. What? You didn't read it? I just may never recover from that. In any case, it's probably time to venture out. The pavement is finally exposed (as will be our blindingly pale skin from the lack of vitamin D). So, just go for it, go for a walk; your body needs the blood pumping. What else gets the blood pumping? A good sale. And Plum has great end of season deals. But you do have to go into a local Plum to grab those great things that you know you missed out on! Get dressed, put on your boots and coat (or go and buy one)!
I can't say enough about the poncho craze. They're a great, functional addition to the wardrobe and can realistically span three seasons. I love layering them on top of jackets or coats or even sweaters and I must admit I wear them around the house for an extra layer.
I'm sure by now you've invested in snow tires, so it's time to make sure you also have a coat. A winter one...because we're in Canada...you know...where it's cold (we sometimes forget this on the far west coast).
Scarves just never go out of style. We pack them away for the next winter, then gleefully pull out our favourites again when the season suits of course. Plum has such a luscious variety of scarves; the price is right now to stock up.
If you're in search of a good basic sweater, look no further. Super soft, long in length (not tunic length but long enough to cover the bum and keep it warm), side slits, 81% cotton, great to belt or wear a necklace with and comes in 6 great fall colours. AND it's an excellent deal.
Kersh crew neck sweater (6 colours) was $59 NOW $29
I'm sure I'm not the only one staring longingly out the window in anticipation of the spring and higher temperatures. But in the words of Thomas Edison "Opportunity is missed by most people because it is dressed in overalls and looks like work". Come to Plum, no overalls are required.

What kind of sweater girl are you...oops I meant woman? Are you the kind that pins a broach on every sweater, a cardigan person or the oversized boyfriend sweater style type? Do you choose by colour, fabrication or design or all of the above? Personally, I think sweaters are just a wardrobe necessity in our climate at this time of year. Therefore, might just as well choose something, pretty, sophisticated, sexy...or ok just warm! From basic to fashion, Plum's got you covered!
The usual in fall and winter is to grab for the earth tones, which are wonderful, but this white is just so light, happy, fresh and so sexy looking. Try wearing it with a fur vest (very hot right now), above the knee skirt and ankle boots. (sweater also comes in grey which is an excellent alternative to black, making it a wonderful neutral).
DO+BE off shoulder ribbed sweater (cream, black or grey)$79
Let's talk about 'cute'. I think after you turn 15, no woman seems to want to be, or have her outfit referred to as CUTE! Ok, well, lets call this fun instead. It's also bright, delightfully fuzzy and if it's not a conversation starter, will probably provoke a few hugs!
Le Shop fuzzy daisy sweater (say that 5 times fast) $65
This is reminiscent of Grampa's old sweater vest...or maybe the therapist...which ever one conjures up better memories...I love the loose, casual hi-low style...wear it alone as pictured, add a bold necklace or a string of pearls...or add a shirt, create definition with a wide belt and balance it out with knee high riding boots.
Press Hi-low hem vest (heather grey) $70
Some of us are hot one minute and cold the next....this accommodates the erratic furnace that is our body. Gorgeous colour combination, abundant collar and just so cozy...wear a t-shirt or even a jacket beneath for layering.
Look jacquard knit poncho (purple) $105
The ubiquitous V neck pullover! There is little else that needs to be said about this style. It goes with everything, it's smart, sophisticated, simple yet easy to pump up the cool factor! And this is just the most spot on fall colour! Another colour that works well as a neutral.
Kaffe Majka pullover (dijon) $79
The internet says a sweater is a what a child wears when it's mother is chilly, or it's just a blanket you can wear to work...I say a sweater is to your wardrobe what wine is to your diet..........warms you up, makes you look cute fun...better than wine...no calories!

Plum's owner Katie O'Brien owns over 200 scarves; some forgivably are not current as they go back to the turn of the century (the previous one)! She wears one every day...they are her signature! But maybe you say "Suzanne I don't have a fashionable bone in my body"...or you simply have no time to invest in making creative looks! Poppycock I say! Scarves are THE easiest, least expensive way to funk up your wardrobe, create a look and change an outfit!! And Plum (thanks to the Scarf Queen), has a fantastic selection! Here's a sampling of what's available:
While there is arguably not a lot of colour, this scarf is great in a multitude of ways. It's large enough to double as a shawl. I held it up and it covered my entire doorway. The neutrality of the black and off white means almost any other colour you choose will work with it, If you're adventurous, put it together with a carefully chosen pattern. Or, add a belt or fedora to the mix, adding to the pizzazz!
Look plaid pattern wool blend scarf (black, burgundy, yellow) $39 (as seen on front of email)
Maybe you like to stay away from pattern, or, you wear a lot of patterns, and therefore, are looking for an accent, in one colour. This rich hued, open weave scarf might be what you're in search of. Love how it's casually thrown over her shoulders worn with another great earth tone. Features satin edging and angular edge bottom.
Open weave scarf trimmed (black, burgundy, ivory, rust) $38
Infinity scarves...whomever invented these knew I needed an alternative to necklaces and tired of the ends falling in my soup. Kidding aside this is a beautiful, delicate bohemian/eastern pattern. Pick an unexpected tint from the scarf pattern to draw it out.
Infinity scarf (green, navy or orange) $32
This clever piece is both a shawl and a scarf. Wear it as a shawl, wear it thrown over one shoulder, or wear it to the side, on the hip, fastened with a broach!
Monochrome triangle scarf (black or taupe) $59
Wear them as a shawl, wrap them in different ways, add some colour to a monochromatic look, add earrings, fasten with a pin. So very easy to add some flair and create your very own signature.

I suppose if one more person mentions that walking is good for you, you might want to just throw a shoe at them (not the good ones though). However, it truly does bear reminding because of it's endless health benefits. For instance, did you know, a recent study, showed walking intensity points towards longevity for those who have a naturally brisk gait? But what inspires you to get out there...listening to Aerosmith on iTunes, falling leaves, or simply the cuddly poncho you love most? How about some inspiration brought to you by Plum:
If there is one trend that must not be missed, it's the poncho/shawl trend. Suited for everyone, there are so many great patterns, colours and textures to choose from. Very versatile piece. This gorgeous one above has the softest texture and a hood. What else would you need!
Look by M chain pattern, hood poncho (beige or black) $79
Twinkle twinkle little star, how I wonder why you're not in my closet (fashionista lyrics). Just your basic black v neck sweater with a blast of star quality!
Kersh seeing stars pullover sweater (black) $84
Nowhere is it written that we must appear as if prepared for a hike in the Himalayans' in Nepal. I love how it's creatively belted. Comprised of ramie and cotton, this is an excellent addition to the natural fibers' lovers wardrobe.
Selfie couture long open cardi (khaki) $89
I'm fairly certain your last name need not be Stewart to wear this fabulous reversible poncho. And I hate to keep harping on the 'reversible/you've gained two garments' thing however...it is what it is! You're welcome! I think it cries out for some bright red lipstick or some bold red hunter boots and you're ready for a walk in the Highlands!
Look waterfall poncho double sided (grey, red) $59
This sweater is made for walking! You can tell it's just the perfect co-ordination of colours, bright but inconspicuous enough to blend in with many of your favourite pieces. Yet another one that would look sensational (if you so choose) to add a belt for a bit of interest.
Selfie couture drapy cardigan (black) $79

Do not miss the amazing sweater selections currently in stock. I struggled with keeping this to 5 sweaters. Have a look at what's in stock!
