Last blog was about staying indoors; avoiding the cold, reinventing ourselves or...just enjoying being inside and warm. What? You didn't read it? I just may never recover from that. In any case, it's probably time to venture out. The pavement is finally exposed (as will be our blindingly pale skin from the lack of vitamin D). So, just go for it, go for a walk; your body needs the blood pumping. What else gets the blood pumping? A good sale. And Plum has great end of season deals. But you do have to go into a local Plum to grab those great things that you know you missed out on! Get dressed, put on your boots and coat (or go and buy one)!

I can't say enough about the poncho craze. They're a great, functional addition to the wardrobe and can realistically span three seasons. I love layering them on top of jackets or coats or even sweaters and I must admit I wear them around the house for an extra layer.

ImageImage

I'm sure by now you've invested in snow tires, so it's time to make sure you also have a coat. A winter one...because we're in Canada...you know...where it's cold (we sometimes forget this on the far west coast).

ImageImage

Scarves just never go out of style. We pack them away for the next winter, then gleefully pull out our favourites again when the season suits of course. Plum has such a luscious variety of scarves; the price is right now to stock up.

If you're in search of a good basic sweater, look no further. Super soft, long in length (not tunic length but long enough to cover the bum and keep it warm), side slits, 81% cotton, great to belt or wear a necklace with and comes in 6 great fall colours. AND it's an excellent deal.

Kersh crew neck sweater (6 colours) was $59 NOW $29

I'm sure I'm not the only one staring longingly out the window in anticipation of the spring and higher temperatures. But in the words of Thomas Edison "Opportunity is missed by most people because it is dressed in overalls and looks like work".  Come to Plum, no overalls are required.

Perhaps you're not partial to cross country skiing, hours of shoveling or making snow angels; possibly you enjoy the indoor sports....you know, reading books, watching movies or dancing around the living room to 80's music (oops that's me). Really what are some of your indoor passions? Do you knit, wood carve, bake or paint? This is an excellent time to dive into your passions, start a new project or finish an old one. Or...dare I say, maybe it's just watching YouTube video's of strange animal friendships or...shopping...let me help feed that passion (the latter)...

Image

Well, you can cozy up to something other than a boyfriend or dog....how about a sweatshirt and a hot cocoa (or wine)....accompanied by an old black and white film....you see, January is good for something.

Plum hooded sweatshirt (burgundy, charcoal or teal) was $72 now $29 (purchase instore only)

Image

I think this is a particularly scrumptious sweater.  I realize it lacks vibrancy with it's black, white and grey palette...but that's where your bright red lipstick comes in. All 3 colours will ultimately match any other colour. And the winter white next to your face, helps brighten your complexion.

Kersh tricolor turtleneck sweater (tricolor) was $84 now $42 (purchase instore only)

Image

I love this for it's ability to transform. From a dress to a tunic to a coat. Wear it buttoned up and belted or open (as above) or over a dress. Lots of ways to make this work.

JW long sleeve side slit denim dress (dark or light denim) was $89 now $25 (purchase instore only)

ImageImage

What to wear with your 'crazy cat lady' t shirt other than your cat? Try a poncho. Easy to throw on for the cold nights inside, or over a coat, a jacket or sweater...so great for layering. Mixing patterns is fine, pick a colour to co-ordinate, or keep within the same family of tones.

Bear Dance 'one cat away from crazy' t shirt $35

KW aztec poncho with scarf (multi) was $95 now $47 (purchase instore only)

Yes of course watching Netflix is a sport...why else would they call them marathon's?

As we say good bye to a potentially abominable year (no I'm not just talking about the snow), we think back. Some of us would rather not, after all, a veritable playlist of musicians left us, questionable leadership voted in, earthquakes in Italy, Haiti getting hit again and newsworthy closer to home, Fort Mac fires happening.  Seemed to be more forgettable news than memorable. Either you 'Let it Go' or....get away and forget it all! If you belong to the 'LET'S GO' camp....here's a bit of packing inspiration.

Image

Looking like angel wings preparing for winged flight, this beautiful, light cover is just what is needed to ward off a little chill.

Kerisma Eden sheer poncho (6 colours) $59

Image

Look on the bright side....seriously! Look at this lovely, bright top. If this lively pattern doesn't brighten your mood, your destination surely will. A buffet of colours and patterns which will be simple to co-ordinate.

Wink Wink cap sleeve t shirt (3 colour patterns) $39

Image

Another bright, lively piece that mimics 2 pieces and looks like a field of flowers. The less you have to pack the better.

Wink Wink tank dress draped top (blue or white/blue) $110

Image

No question about it, when you think of warmer climates and just hanging out....linen comes to mind. Inevitably, if you're a 'pant' person, this is the best fabrication. Loose, light and casual.

M drawstring linen pants (navy and stripe) $90

ImageImageImage

Plum ribbed tank top (13 yummy colours) $18

Bear Dance pugs doing yoga $35

Wink Wink tank top with curved hem (blue or light blue)$55

And then there's a fantastic assortment of tank tops, graphic t's and tops. The possibilities are endless especially if you pack just right, with only a few key pieces.

Pretending 2016 did not happen is no more possible than cake being used as a weight loss method. Since neither is bound to happen any time soon, and you have a great escape planned to plot a successful 2017, make a trip to Plum first and get some good packing karma!

Get out of here!!

Planning to 'get out of here', leave, go south or to a resort? If so, that's fantastic and aren't you the lucky one! Unless you live in Calgary or have experience with driving snow plows, these conditions for us here in the far west are a challenge and who wouldn't want to escape?  So shop and pack here before you depart because when you arrive there, you'll never be sure of what the options are, what you'll find or prices and exchange rates can be a hassle.  But you'll find Plum has plenty that will also suit you for your escape and when you return for spring.

Image

Isn't this the absolute sweetest dress since the invention of cotton candy? If you had to pack one thing, this would be it, it's femininity is only surpassed by it's comfort. Comprised of a butter soft knit stretch fabric...going about your day with ease will be no problem, whatever your adventures.

Simone sleeveless dress with back shirring (blue or light blue) $129

Image

Regardless of what you choose to wear beneath, coverups will be an essential of your wardrobe. From evening strolls to beach side, over a bathing suit, there's no doubt you'll occasionally need something. These are wonderful because they slide over an outfit which can still be seen.

Kerisma Eden sheer poncho (aqua, black, coral, navy, royal blue or white) $59

ImageImage

Perhaps you're a t shirt and shorts type person. Plum carries a great variety of Bear Dance t shirts. And the Bermuda shorts are a great departure from short shorts.

Bear Dance skull with roses (ivory) $35

Point Zero rolled cuff Bermuda short stretch twill (Bayberry, beige, grey or white) $55

ImageImage

Two more wonderful dress options to choose from. The one on the left is an effortless tank style, with abundant colour options in it's print. The one on the right is a sweet, mini dot print with romantic slit skirt and top shirring. You'll want to go dancing!

Emery shirred top dress (black or red) $85

Wink Wink tank dress with curved hem (3 prints) $79

Image

Another great, breezy, fresh style in this bohemian loose fitting top. Anything that packs lightly and is airy will be excellent options.

KW Embroidered poncho (coral or mint) $55

So if you're one of the fortunate's that head to a resort or south for the winter here are a few interesting facts about Snow Birds. The term was first used in 1923, referring to seasonal workers, according to one study, 63% of Snow Birds reported having 'better health' and in Texas they are referred to as 'Winter Texans' But really, it just means a VERY lucky person who gets to escape the winter elements! Enjoy your trip and get packing!

BUY ONE GET ONE! BUY a second piece of jewellery of equal or lesser value for 50% off (in store only).

You know that look your cat gives you? The totally unimpressed, 'you've barely shown up on their radar' look when you walk out of the shower totally unclothed?....While, I do not have a cat, it's an expression I'd not like to see when I'm dressed for a party. Yes I'd like to be noticed, but tastefully so. I aim for festive, yet not competing with the Christmas tree, festive! By the time I put on my glasses, a pair of earrings and a necklace, a hat may well be out of the question. Accessorizing is a fine art that I continue to struggle with, but I enjoy the process of learning. Plum has such an exciting array of accessories, perfect for gift giving...or my favourite...self giving!!

This delicate lace beauty has it all. It's feminine, light and detailed. So perfect for the season. Taking into account the lovely bow tie at the neck, it clearly doesn't need a necklace. The bling, in my opinion, can be better concentrated on the wrists. The high sparkle of the large rhinestone bracelet or the wonderful filigree of the cuffs tie in nicely with the elaborate lace.

Renamed tie neck dot mesh blouse (black) $79 now $59

For a simple, understated black dress such as the above, almost anything goes. If silver is to your style, these fabulous big hearts and potentially the sleek look of the brushed cuff..keeps it polished and, matching.

Simone V-neck princess seam dress with sleeves (black or merlot) $139 now $89 (purchase in store only)

Image Image

To match the free flowing spirit of the bohemian look of the above dress, try an eclectic mix of strands to create an effortless look. This dress could easily work with a statement necklace or large earrings. Lots of options to work with.

M Jersey dress with silk overlay (black) $115

It's really all about option and with so many, it's really about how they make you feel. Perhaps you're in the mood for something colourful and a bit more edgy in style. With the knotted front this dress creates a bit more of a departure from the usual look. Top jewellery options show a bit more whimsy with a colour tie in, or the middle option inviting in the circular print of the dress. Or simply beaded bracelets.

Simone 3/4 sleeve twist front dress (navy or teal) $125 now $62 (available for in store purchase only)

Accessories can make or break an outfit, add a focus or take away from an already stunning look even with many fabulous components. However, if you need some ideas or guidance check out Plum's vast selection of accessories as well as employ the expertise of Plum's fabulous staff in store...whatever you do, don't turn to your cat for advice.

If December was a day of the week, I'm sure it would be Saturday. Because now begins the month of gift giving along with abundant parties, gatherings and merriment. And what to wear! Recently I enjoyed a lovely night with my colleagues at Plum's annual Christmas party. My favourite part (aside from the food) was seeing just how these fabulous women put together a festive outfit. I'm always amazed and inspired. Neither age nor size is relevant here, therefore I encourage you to venture into a Plum location near you and I'm confident they'll help you uncover your seasonal sparkle!

Image

When you purchase this dress (and I know you will), you'll be be getting more than just your average LBD for one season. This is a very innovative, unique design that you will most certainly get a lot of mileage from. What you wear with your LBD is very personal but this is 2 pieces, essentially a tank dress, with a gorgeous curved front overlay top. Thus, one can wear them separately, creating far more than just party season attire.

Simone tank dress with layered top (black or Plum) $149

Image

Lace is yet another texture that inevitably shows up during the Christmas season. Off the shoulder, lined body and an easy shape make this a hit. As above, with black pants, you'll find this very easy to co-ordinate with multiple other pieces. However, you'll also find, that lace has also made it's way quite nicely into mainstream wear as well.

IN STORE only

DO+BE off shoulder lace top (wine) $89

Maybe a break away from solids would be a good direction to take. A jersey print, blouson style dress, with a body hugging skirt create a sexy, and feminine departure from the usual seasonal glitz.

Soya Concept Petruska 2 Jersey print dress (black) $95

ImageImage

The sweet retro look of the lace with a removable collar creates a light easy look. On the right the Mavi GLITTER jean. Black with light flecks of glitter.

acappella lace top with contrast collar (black or ivory) $85

Mavi Adriana skinny glitter jeans (black glitter) $138

ImageImage

Jackets are another sensational way to add some interest to your outfit. The one on the left is a fun, faux fur that adds texture and a playful feel to a potentially basic outfit. Add a chunky or glitzy necklace and you're good to go. The jacket on the right can easily go from office to office party with the simple switch of lipstick, shoes and hair.

Soya Concept fuzzy cropped jacket (black) $95

Tobias double breasted jacket with flared hem (black or pewter) $230 now $185

Dressing for a the barrage of December parties can be a headache OR can add some extra fun to already joy filled and fun activities. Choosing wisely can mean your outfit doesn't sit in your closet until the following December with the Christmas decorations. Head into a Plum location near you. There are accessories oozing with glamour and other wonderful options for the approaching party season. With lots of expertise to go along with it.
