DON'T FORGET about the coupon,(minimum purchase-some restrictions*), still in effect until October 9, get it here

I'm dedicating this weeks blog to my big brother. And what in heaven's blue sky does an older brother have to do with shopping or fashion? Well, his actions reminded me, we don't always purchase clothing for ourselves, sometimes as gifts. As, my brother regularly does things for others, some would say it's his part time job. Recently, he bought Plum gift cards and donated them to a couple who were the victims of theft of all of their worldly goods, having just moved across the country. While precious memories and meaningless trinkets that to us, hold the souls of our loved ones, when lost, cannot be replaced...knowing we have new fresh clothes on our backs...can somewhat lighten the challenge. This morning I didn't yell while ushering the children off to school, and I thought that was tremendous! It seems I should aim slightly higher. ;)

I'm a huge fan of the poncho phase, which appears to not be slowing down. In part because it fills many gaps...they're warm, they look great, they go with most other garments and layer extremely well. This one would make a fantastic gift for someone because of it's ubiquitous fall shades, unique curved, ribbed edge and sleeves and it's universal appeal!

This season at Plum we're noticing that people are reaching for designs that are unique and different. I can't think of anything that personifies that description more than this 'PURE' Jacquard coat dress. An absolute head turner, but what I also love about this is, it's divine feminine shape.

PURE Jacquard coat dress with asymmetric hem (charcoal or silver) $179

As I mentioned in previous blogs, jumpsuits are massively popular this season. With our harried lives, we often gravitate to what's simplest. While this is classified as easy, I can think of multiple ways to funk this up, if your usual is to be creative.  Add a wide belt AND even add a chain belt as well. Or a wide belt and a collection of pendants, or a scarf and the newest trend is embellished boots.

SPRING HAZE 3/4 sleeve jumpsuit (black or olive) $89

Tunics are hugely popular as well currently. Again for their ability to create multiple different types of outfits, as a dress or as a top. Add in the multicolour stripes and it's an equation anyone can figure out.

Point Zero long sleeve swing dress (navy stripe) $79

What is community service to you? To some it entails taking charge of an annual event, to others it means simply checking in on an elderly neighbor regularly. Plum is a huge part of it's community from sponsorships to being regular sponsors of Dress for Success and Big Sisters. And really, reaching out to others, will never go out of style!

I'd like to just take a moment to show my appreciation for my brother, my husband and friends who officially and unofficially invest in their community. Thank you!

DO blondes have more fun? Some famous historic blondes...Marilyn Monroe, Goldie Hawn, Deborah Harry (Blondie), Donald Trump, Tweetie bird (ok maybe that's yellow), they all seem to emit an image of 'fun'(most of them). But fun in life, is not about the colour of your hair, more the choices you make. It also doesn't mean you're prettier, it just means your hair has less pigment. Hmm...yet another case of less is more it seems! Therefore, my sideways segway into Plum's fabulous new Danish brands that are just so hot! Here's just a taste of what's in store:

What is better than traveling into the past....not traveling into the past and yet still having the fun vibe! I think this dress transmits with it's wide bell sleeves, unstructured fit, with bust darts that create some definition and fine drapey fabric. My extremely fashionable coworker suggested ankle boots, a hat and an armful of bangles. Groovy!

Soya Concept ruffle sleeve back zip dress (petrol) $89

A four pocket design with the look of skinny trousers but the feel of leggings, these fabulous, must-have, multiple-purchase pants, will be a common go-to co-ordinate. Once I tried these on, I really did not want to take them off! Very skinny stretchy leg and nice comfy high waist band.

Be Young Liv Dixi pant (black) $55

The beauty of colour block is, the multitude of hue's, yet one needn't contain oneself to solids or more straight lines. Feel free to experiment with other patterns such as, a bold basic floral, polka dotted scarf or embroidered or embellished booties.

The moment I laid eyes on this stunning coat, I fell deeply in love. A substantially thick fabric with an extremely eye catching tiger print. I've never been overly fond of animal print, until I saw this...and all I could say was MEOW!

So in conclusion, if hair colour had anything at all to do with how much 'fun' we have in life, peroxide would be in scarce supply. Rather, 'fun' and joy are in the eye of the beholder. After all, if you want the answer to what is fun, talk to a toddler playing with a cardboard box. Pretty sure you don't even need to change your hair colour.

CONGRATULATIONS to the winner of Plum's Big Sisters draw...Claudia from Calgary. Thank you for supporting Big Sisters and we hope you enjoy your shopping trip!

I'm sure we all had a favourite dress from childhood, forever burned into our memories or on a wrinkled old, dog eared photo. I had a few but one of my most adored came from an Aunt who lived in New York.  It was quite typically 70's, with big, bold primary coloured stripes and featuring a large plastic belt. Great, right? Well, I was only around 7. Hardly would compete with little Princess Charlotte's fashions today. But I loved it. I bet you also had a favourite! BUT let's face it, it's never to late to find a new favourite.

Despite this somewhat formal looking presentation, punctuated by the shoe choice, this dress can translate well to work attire, casual afternoon outings and Sunday afternoons, just lazing around on your sundeck! An easy fabric, a pleasing print and a really nice design...make it a great dress for multiple different type functions.

Simone dress with waist pleats (coral or royal) $119

Image

This (above) is a great choice, because of it's delightfully, happy, patchwork look print and uncomplicated cut. Shoes are left to your imagination. However, I can suggest what's popular this season; thicker wedge soles, great for good long strolls or a style preferred by many, the espadrille!

Wink wink tank dress with curved hem (multi) $95

Image

This is a terrific little day dress, with a bright blue print, super flattering neckline and a feature loved by all, pockets.

Wink wink vneck dress with pockets (black or royal) $110

A sweet, very feminine dress, complimented by the lavish lace insert, and with a few accessory switch ups, easily goes from day to night. A great colour, apparently, for the likes of Angelina Jolie (according to Instyle Magazine), therefore it will not likely be in my closet...we don't get mistaken for one another.

Cream lace insert dress (blush) $99

So, what's in a great dress? YOU! After all...in a closet, on a hanger, or in a heap next to your bed, it's just a pile of fabric. It's you that gives it personality and style. I have no photo of that dress of mine from so long ago, however, like boyfriends, there have been many more since and will continue to be into the future (dresses of course, not boyfriends), that was just one of my first ;)

$20 OFF COUPON HERE (use instore or online)

Plum and Big Sisters...you could win a $350 gift certificate...details here

I've been presented lately with quite a number of 'would you rather' questions from my 10 year old. And NEITHER is no more accepted as an option than it is on a voter card (sadly)! So I thought up my own 'would you rather'...Would I rather spend one night in a castle, in an exotic location with full facilities and unparalleled views.....or find the perfect dress? Maybe the 'one night' seems like a slam dunk...however every year at this time, I find myself in search of the dress as if it would totally make my life complete. It seems a dress in a woman's wardrobe is often like the suit jacket to a man. Although, we usually like to have many and we don't only wear them to the office. Plum absolutely excels at dresses.

Image

Isn't this the sweetest thing since chocolate dipped donuts? And nicer to wear! So nicely designed, with pockets, slight A-line, flattering length, beautifully fitted with slight stretch and slight stretch lining.

Simone sleeveless A-line dress (black or white print) $135

ImageImage

Unquestionably a print that declares clearly that spring is here. Blossoms throughout, this dress is yet another fresh, easy wear...with pockets, unlined with a delightfully feminine back view.

Simone A-line dress with pockets (aqua, navy/cream, or pink) $129

Image

This is such a hot little, knit, pull on, dress, showing 'just' enough...to create come intrigue and unless you're Melania Trump with a private audience with the Pope, you can probably afford to be a little bit daring.

French Connection Ottoman crepe knit dress (fuschia) $158

Image

On the lighter, more casual, less structured side, is this pretty blue, denim, embroidered style. Made from 100% cotton, a comfortable, breathable wear for the seasons to come.

Ellison embroidered dress (denim) $79

Image

Another casual denim dress, which can switch to being worn as a tunic or just a light cover with capri tights. Made from the, emerging in popularity fabric, Tencel (lyocell), a great sustainable fibre, comprised of wood cellulose...very similar to rayon in it's fluidity.

Etherial tencel dress (denim blue) $79

Life is full of so many choices...should I have the salad or a nice thick burger, should I marry the artist my family thinks is a bum or the computer geek? Just remember though, that even 'not' making a choice...is still a choice. So don't just sit there, dresses are waiting to be chosen (if you don't choose them someone else will)!

So many dresses...so little time

Breaking free!

Plum and Big Sisters...you could win a $350 gift certificate...details here

The blog title is taken from a book loaned to me. One that is not unlike the old children's 'board books' but for adults, consisting of only two pages per chapter, including some inspiring quotes, yet hardly requiring a large time investment to complete. The premise?...relax! Chill out, find YOU in the chaos of life. Find ways to relax yourself, mind body and soul. That might mean breaking out of your regular patterns from time to time if you feel stuck or bored. Maybe you're not into yoga though, heck maybe you don't even like yoga pants. Plum presents fashions that help dial down the crazy that is your life by providing many relaxed styles that don't mimic pajamas.

Image

With this look, yet another way to look cool, be cool...feel cool! Hardly anything complex about her look. Hair up, one simple necklace and a comfortable, embroidered lace sleeves, cotton knit top with an easy, 100% linen skirt. Linen being the very definition of cool! Footwear? Try some cut out, open toe wedges or espadrilles. (more linen coordinates can be found online and instore).

French Connection lace and knit top (white) $68

Plum skirt with curved hem (concrete, natural or olive) $72

Image

So pretty and light like a kiss into the air! If you're not really a red person, that's ok. It's more of a natural, clay like shade! If you're into muted colours or basics, this just gives your outfit a bit of punch without a lot of effort.

Cream Vicky print kimono (Marsala red) $59

ImageImage

This little cutie is a great, simple stripe tank dress that can be worn back to front or front to back. V-neck or scoop neck. Very easy to pair with leggings or on it's own, to just chill or, throw on a kimono or jean jacket when there is a chill!

Orb reversible tie waist dress (black stripe) $77

Image

So, 'I want to try something different...new' you say....The above sweater might be far enough out of your comfort zone with some key features, making it stand out from the ordinary. Beautiful sweeping variegated hem, fringe, crochet and fresh white interspersed with a touch of natural beige. Quite an interesting design. Nice with your favourite distressed jeans.

Cream Albertina cardigan (84% cotton) (off white) $99

According to this book, relaxing, being happier and getting closer to the you, that is you does not mean you must drive like 'Starsky and Hutch' across town to get to your yoga class...what it does mean is...stop, look around you, take a breath, buy yourself some flowers or pick some, excavate an old artistic talent or try a new one...or simply park the devices for a few hours...after all, there's no GPS that's going help you find you!
