5 DAYS ONLY - 7 GREAT COLOURS TO CHOOSE FROM - MAK CREWNECK SWEATER

$45

IN STORE AND WEB STORE

My deepest sympathies go out to Calgary for the sudden passing of 'FALL'!!! Sadly, in a flash Autumn was just entirely covered up for the year. We now are thrust into sweater season. As much as a dump of snow is not new to us, neither are our last years sweaters. And we are left to either find inventive ways to wear them or find replacements. Which, tends to make the cold and cuddle season a bit more appealing (well, the cold part). Let's entertain ourselves with a look at the sweater that's on special and some new ones and fresh ways to wear them.

Image

Image Image Image Image Image Image

The quintessential, lush sweater for the season. Quintessential because of it's universally appealing fit, soft texture and comes in 7 seasonal colours and as a basic, completes so many fall/winter ensembles.

Mak crewneck sweater - (teal, yellow, black, off white, burgundy, red or camel) (Oct 4 - 8 - $45)

Image
ImageImage

And yes you can so tuck it in, add an infinity scarf, a bold necklace and a hat. Basically converting your basic into something beyond basic!

Mak crewneck sweater worn with:

Love Tree plaid knit pants $69

Menswear fedora hat (charcoal or coffee mix) $49

Image

Maybe there are times when you want to take off the sweater; layering is always great with varied types of environments. To this, add a classic cut shirt with an unexpected, all over print pattern to give your outfit some kick.

B Young printed button down blouse (off white/mustard) $65

ImageImage

In a professional setting skirts are great with sweaters for a diversion from pants. If the one on the right appears too short, put on a pair of crop leggings and add ballet flats. This takes a simple, pulled together look, to a fresh new level, with very little effort.

Soya Concept Glenplaid pull on skirt (burgundy/off white) $75

Motion A line mini skirt (black check) $69

ImageImage

Kimono's, shawls and open front sweaters continue to dominate the sweater market. The above sweater is just a brilliant combination of all of those, with the added smart function of a button for a shawl look, a bit of flair! And who doesn't love the fringe trend?

Love Tree fringed shawl sweater (black, wine, camel or heather grey) $69

ImageImage

Reaching beyond the solid colour sweater or different knit patterns of course is print or patterned. Making an interesting look by itself. Have some fun playing around and mixing patterns or simply wear as is.

M printed floral sweater (beige or blue) $60

Motion long grey check coat sweater (grey) $90

Sweater weather....a time for crunching through leaves wearing your favourite boots, watching your dog frolic in the snow like some crazed beast high on life, sipping a hot chocolate at a cafe patio watching the passersby, or recreating the opening scene from the Mary Tyler Moore show! (I always wanted to do that-maybe this year)!

Whimsical weather

The shawl/vest - for 4 days only $49 - divide that by the 4 ways to wear it...you do the math, it's a great deal in 5 colours! (until April 29)

We can now collectively take a sigh of relief *AHH* ...spring is here, we can pack away our winter wears. BAH! Not so fast Samsonite, this is Canada. We're over achievers! Why do four seasons in a year when you can do them in a week! Thus we love our clothing that converts or wears more than one way. I don't mean a solar panel hat, that would be silly.

Image Image
Image

May I present to you...the ideal April garment! Worn four different ways (one for each season)! The ultimate piece for the fickle nature of....nature! Belt it for a very stylish look and the next day, throw it on as a hoodie for when the sunshine takes a day off!

Look by M basic shawl/vest 5 colours - for 4 days $ 49

Image

I can no more pull this off as a dress than can DT pull off a buzz cut. BUT that's ok, pull it down to waist level add your favourite tank top and wear it as a maxi skirt. Or, if you're one of those fortunate individuals who can wear it as a dress, lucky you, you have 2 possible garments. The colours in this are so sweet and pretty. Wear it as is, or turn a scarf into a shrug which adds a nice compliment for light added coverage.

Maitai bandeau dress $79

Image

Today I threw on these pants and found the self belt a bit too...belty ;)...I don't need any extra in the middle, so I extracted the belt and put it in my hair like a head band. And the tencel is like a second cousin to silk, just flows and is just as light and graceful. I also plan to wear these well into fall with an ankle boot or even my tall boots.

Point Zero tencel wide leg pant (indigo blue) $78

ImageImage

Not to be overlooked, the uncomplicated scarf is capable of so much more. If you're headed on a trip, by the looks of these brief videos, one might only need a couple of garments and a half dozen scarves to convert your looks on a daily basis. Great way to travel light and still be ultra stylish! Check out video 1 and video 2

KW ethnic scarf with tassles $39

Be Young scatter dot scarf $32

Canadian weather...when your new hair cut suddenly gets windswept, or when you send your kids to school in shoes, they return with them needing to be put in the dryer, it's hard to see the whimsical in that! And that's ok because we Canadians seem to go with the flow and adapt to change. And as they say 'the world needs more Canada'.

Was I dreaming of a white Christmas? I guess dreaming is a bad idea (for me!) because suddenly, it appeared a plenty! Snow (or as I like to call it), silent, white road panic inducers. Nature's driving exam... if you will! Let's just say some are not as adept at driving in this as Santa. Although... maybe you dream of an aquamarine Christmas. You know, the kind that includes tropical drinks, cabana boys, crystal blue ocean views and drool inducing pool side siesta's? Maybe you're not so much dreaming, as planning. In which case, add Plum to your list of places to go first. Out of season attire is hard to find at this time of year, but not at Plum. They stock a regular, functional, in style group of fashions that you'll be thrilled to pack and excited to pull out and put on!

Polka dots are destined to be a big hit this spring, thus, killing two fashion birds with one stone. An airy, cheerful and light top that will go with nearly anything and will be totally in for spring!

Something about a long flowey skirt for a tripical vacation. Maybe it's the romantic look, ease of wear, or maybe it's simply that shaving ones legs becomes optional! Regardless, they're light and the above skirt has a funky, patchwork bohemian look, with simple to match colours.

More on the subject of the small dotted print...this dress is just the ticket for double digit tempartures...unstructured fit, lined and light with the sweet dots on a navy background. Great for cocktails at the beach side bar, with espadrille wedges and a tall stranger!

Image
The epitome of a travel dress for a warm climate. Sporting a lively, happy print makes you appear approachable and speaks for you. No translator needed. Just a delightfully easy to wear dress with every colour to match your shoes, flip flops or dangle earrings or the colourful hand crafted bracelet you'll likely purchase.

Plum's massively popular Simone dress in a design that's been proven to fit all types. Comes in two sweet, botanical prints, shirred back for extra comfort and fit and a complimentary at knee length.

There will always be a time where more layers are needed, not a heavy cardigan, just a mere bit of extra on your arms or to compliment the co-ordinates. Enter the Kimono. Here are a couple of great selections, one more muted tones, another with slightly more pronounced hues.

When you find a fragment of good from a bad situation, that's creative; When you dream something into reality, that's magic; when you turn a desire into a vacation that's motivation! But when you turn 65 and all your body parts are still functioning..THAT'S A MIRACLE!!

CONGRATULATIONS to the winner of Plum's CANADA 150 DRAW...KRISTY from Vancouver!

NO, I am not dying or quitting, simply referring to literally packing for a trip. Having been on an epic vacation of a lifetime recently (think: planes, trains and automobiles), literally! The only thing not included in my extraordinarily memorable trip across Canada was horseback! This made me think two things 1) note to self: Never travel again (at least not with children) and 2) when I break that rule, be better prepared with proper luggage and clothing. What and how to pack for a trip? One would think I'd have learned from this monumental adventure and have a concrete answer. Well, I have at least a few thoughts and shopping suggestions.

Dresses are a really great travel garment, they're one item and they're usually comfortable. The one above, however, can also easily be worn either as a dress or a tunic. Add tights for more ease of movement. The elbow sleeves are such that if you're in a fickle climate, you don't need to worry about extra cover.

Wink wink ribbed dress (4 colours) now $39

TOPS...Keep them basic. The solid colour offers the ability to mix and match with more bottoms, which means less to lug around...for a bit more interest, pack a small bag with accessories (favourite necklaces, earrings) to change things up a bit. The asymmetric hem, means you don't need to leave your style at home! TRAVEL TIP: If you're unable to find a laundromat, hand washing is always an option. Hang to dry, wring the garment out well and use the hair dryer to quick dry. For me, this worked surprisingly well for small garments.

Double asymmetric hem tank top (4 colours) $39

Image

Here's a wonderful option for warm climates. It's light, it's airy, it's also pretty and can be paired with (as seen above) jeans, shorts, skirts or even a tank dress. How to pack it without arriving with more wrinkles than grandpa? TRAVEL TIP: Best method? Using tissue and a plastic bag

Catwalk embroidered blouse (light pink) now $55

Image

And who can resist the sweet little tiered skirt for beach vacations, or even staycations! Like olives are to a martini, the flirty short skirt goes well with sandals, or even Keds for walking. All they need is a little tank top and that's the outfit for the day. TRAVEL TIP: bring an extra canvas or reusable bag for either purchasing souvenirs or storing dirty laundry.

Soya Concept lined tiered skirt (dark earth) $65

ImageImage

And if you're not much into dresses or skirts, these are the best bottoms of choice. The just-below-the-knee tights are made of bamboo, which is typically softer than cotton and has better absorbency...and linen pants have proven to be a very easy, light fiber; and because wrinkles are a natural presentation of the fabric itself, it's perfect for the job of travel.

Orange capri legging (5 colours) $34

Plum drawstring linen pant (concrete, natural or olive) now $65

Give yourself a break when you're preparing to travel, think...comfort and less complicated. I wish I'd taken my own advice, I'd have brought less footwear and used better luggage. After all, it's really all about the journey, not the wrinkles.

Breaking free!

Plum and Big Sisters...you could win a $350 gift certificate...details here

The blog title is taken from a book loaned to me. One that is not unlike the old children's 'board books' but for adults, consisting of only two pages per chapter, including some inspiring quotes, yet hardly requiring a large time investment to complete. The premise?...relax! Chill out, find YOU in the chaos of life. Find ways to relax yourself, mind body and soul. That might mean breaking out of your regular patterns from time to time if you feel stuck or bored. Maybe you're not into yoga though, heck maybe you don't even like yoga pants. Plum presents fashions that help dial down the crazy that is your life by providing many relaxed styles that don't mimic pajamas.

Image

With this look, yet another way to look cool, be cool...feel cool! Hardly anything complex about her look. Hair up, one simple necklace and a comfortable, embroidered lace sleeves, cotton knit top with an easy, 100% linen skirt. Linen being the very definition of cool! Footwear? Try some cut out, open toe wedges or espadrilles. (more linen coordinates can be found online and instore).

French Connection lace and knit top (white) $68

Plum skirt with curved hem (concrete, natural or olive) $72

Image

So pretty and light like a kiss into the air! If you're not really a red person, that's ok. It's more of a natural, clay like shade! If you're into muted colours or basics, this just gives your outfit a bit of punch without a lot of effort.

Cream Vicky print kimono (Marsala red) $59

ImageImage

This little cutie is a great, simple stripe tank dress that can be worn back to front or front to back. V-neck or scoop neck. Very easy to pair with leggings or on it's own, to just chill or, throw on a kimono or jean jacket when there is a chill!

Orb reversible tie waist dress (black stripe) $77

Image

So, 'I want to try something different...new' you say....The above sweater might be far enough out of your comfort zone with some key features, making it stand out from the ordinary. Beautiful sweeping variegated hem, fringe, crochet and fresh white interspersed with a touch of natural beige. Quite an interesting design. Nice with your favourite distressed jeans.

Cream Albertina cardigan (84% cotton) (off white) $99

According to this book, relaxing, being happier and getting closer to the you, that is you does not mean you must drive like 'Starsky and Hutch' across town to get to your yoga class...what it does mean is...stop, look around you, take a breath, buy yourself some flowers or pick some, excavate an old artistic talent or try a new one...or simply park the devices for a few hours...after all, there's no GPS that's going help you find you!
