A GREAT start to the season...a fantastic deal...4 DAYS ONLY Feb 1,2,3,4- Mavi Juliette cargo pants $89

January, like the black sheep of the family, not that predictable, reliable or frankly likeable! And thankfully, gone like the clappers (as they say in the UK)!! So it's now February and feeling like you're surrounded by turmoil and strife? There's really only one thing to do. Create some joy, do something frivolous like, sleep all day, join a book club, eat chocolate or...buy something new! While camouflage doesn't really spring to mind as 'happy', it is, however, light-hearted, a fun fashion pattern and easier to style than one might think. And while it's written that camo dates back thousands of years, we don't particularly want to look thousands of years old. Thus there are ways to style camo to look...fresh and...well...friendly!

Keeping it simple, as above, this universally appealing white t shirt will not only function perfectly with all other co-ordinates, but it sets a nice subdued background to the playful pattern.

B Young ballerina neck t shirt (black, light grey melange, off white) $32

Mavi Juliette cargo pant (military green) $89

So, Alanis, maybe you'd like something a bit more ironic? Try this simple message T...and no, there is no need to match perfectly, this is not a math calculation, it's fashion! Go with the feeling. Add a structured jacket and pumps and voila! your Friday night fun look.

Image
....or a cable knit sweater...because it's still chilly enough. White a little too plain for you? Add a moto jacket, another returning trending,a collection of pendants and a hat. Makes for a stylish, yet easy weekend look.

Image
Maybe just a bright punch of colour? This luscious hue is an emerging colour trend for the spring. Another way to style the camouflage pants in a less predictable yet interesting way.

It's never easy to rise above conflict, it's never easy to choose to say less than to say more, it's never easy to be the bigger person, but it is easy to choose to feel good. And sometimes, all that means is...doing something nice.  Let kindness begin with you. A new pair of pants won't solve the world's problems, but they feel good. Start there!

DREAMERS V-NECK PULLOVER - FOR 4 DAYS ONLY (to March 4) $55 (regularly $69).

The actual saying is 'less is more' clearly....however, downsizing, purging or parting with things, I don't excel at. Though, I do regularly look for creative ways to reuse, remake or surgically change a garment because of a favoured pattern or fabric. Trends now change faster than Usain Bolt, but we can still find ways of making things fresh and interesting or maximizing a garment. For instance, I discovered I can turn a dress into a skirt by adding a top and a belt or, for that matter, a maxi skirt into a strapless dress. And when traveling, the more you can be creative or squeeze out of one garment, the less you have to carry.

Image

One of the most creative ways I've seen a garment transformed unexpectedly was a sweater, such as above, worn as a skirt. Let's just say, you're on a trip, you need to wear something a bit more one tier up from jeans or casual pants. Pull the sweater down to your waist, tie the sleeves around the back in a bow. Voila, you now have a skirt. Otherwise, a sweater such as the one above transforms to different types of events based on what it's worn with, just as is. A bit more upscale? Add a blingy necklace, pencil skirt and heels and maybe a belt. Slow easy weekend? Just throw on your favourite jeans.

Dreamers v neck sweater (5 colours) for 4 days $55

Image

This adorably, sexy, sweet tunic/dress needs no changes or embellishments, let's face it. All it needs is you and your own take on what should go with it, footwear, shawl, sweater, tights, boots...beaded headband or maybe a flower fascinator...where you take this I'm sure will be great. So pretty, so fresh, so spring!

En Creme tunic dress (white multi) $69

Image

One of my favourite, ultra convertible garments. Can serve as an over piece, like a jacket, can be worn as a dress as noted above, or worn as a long tunic with tights, accessorize as you please, but the bonus, is the elegance of tencel.

Tea and Rose tencel dress (mid wash blue denim) $89

Image

I've seen button up cardigans transformed everywhere from a cowl neck scarf to a skirt and back up again as a sleeveless top. Very creative indeed. However, for me, it's a cardigan...you know, where you put your cold arms!! (lol). However, if you're on a tight budget, by all means, there is no rule that says you can't wear it some other way.

Kersh ribbed waist cardigan (6 colours) $55

Image

A frequent, recent choice of mine is a basic dress.  Mainly because if I want to break up the look, I throw a top on and maybe a belt. Or, if the top is a bit too sheer for my liking, the dress beneath serves two purposes, coverage and layers. Saving me from having to purchase a skirt. And at this time of year, another layer never hurts.

Plum tank dress (grey melange) $69

Image

I adore this look! The bright heels, with the matching clutch, the trench looking coat and a scarf...like, she just stepped off of the plane from France! Depending on the coat, the fabrication, length and of course weight, I sometimes throw them on as an inner wear jacket, as part of the ensemble.

ICHI double breasted trench coat (indigo blue) $139

Our relationship with garments starts pretty early. From our favourite blanket, to a dress a toddler insists on wearing daily, teenagers jeans that have to be 'just so' to those my age, who find ourselves attached to something reminiscent of our youth! And for me, aside from Plum, one of my favourite places to shop is the very back, deep crevice of my own closet. You know...where the questionable purchases were stored!

Was I dreaming of a white Christmas? I guess dreaming is a bad idea (for me!) because suddenly, it appeared a plenty! Snow (or as I like to call it), silent, white road panic inducers. Nature's driving exam... if you will! Let's just say some are not as adept at driving in this as Santa. Although... maybe you dream of an aquamarine Christmas. You know, the kind that includes tropical drinks, cabana boys, crystal blue ocean views and drool inducing pool side siesta's? Maybe you're not so much dreaming, as planning. In which case, add Plum to your list of places to go first. Out of season attire is hard to find at this time of year, but not at Plum. They stock a regular, functional, in style group of fashions that you'll be thrilled to pack and excited to pull out and put on!
Image
Polka dots are destined to be a big hit this spring, thus, killing two fashion birds with one stone. An airy, cheerful and light top that will go with nearly anything and will be totally in for spring!

Image
Something about a long flowey skirt for a tripical vacation. Maybe it's the romantic look, ease of wear, or maybe it's simply that shaving ones legs becomes optional! Regardless, they're light and the above skirt has a funky, patchwork bohemian look, with simple to match colours.

Image

More on the subject of the small dotted print...this dress is just the ticket for double digit tempartures...unstructured fit, lined and light with the sweet dots on a navy background. Great for cocktails at the beach side bar, with espadrille wedges and a tall stranger!

Image
The epitome of a travel dress for a warm climate. Sporting a lively, happy print makes you appear approachable and speaks for you. No translator needed. Just a delightfully easy to wear dress with every colour to match your shoes, flip flops or dangle earrings or the colourful hand crafted bracelet you'll likely purchase.

Image

Plum's massively popular Simone dress in a design that's been proven to fit all types. Comes in two sweet, botanical prints, shirred back for extra comfort and fit and a complimentary at knee length.

ImageImage
There will always be a time where more layers are needed, not a heavy cardigan, just a mere bit of extra on your arms or to compliment the co-ordinates. Enter the Kimono. Here are a couple of great selections, one more muted tones, another with slightly more pronounced hues.

When you find a fragment of good from a bad situation, that's creative; When you dream something into reality, that's magic; when you turn a desire into a vacation that's motivation! But when you turn 65 and all your body parts are still functioning..THAT'S A MIRACLE!!

I have issues!

BEAR DANCE T SHIRT - 4 DAYS ONLY - $ 22

MAKES A GREAT, FUN CHRISTMAS GIFT

in store only

There are anger issues, trust issues, emotional issues, weight issues (I don’t recall salad ever being anyone’s issue)....but my biggest issue is my t shirt issue…a rather out of control obsession which has forced me to turn it into a hobby. Finding them, wearing them and then turning them into something else when I get tired of them (a bag, a skirt, a scarf, a blanket, a little girls dress) because I can't bear to think of my once beloved t shirt lying lonely and cast aside like an old boyfriend in a landfill…so many memories, so much passion…gone! My favourite garment because they fit easily, go with all types of co-ordinates and are relatively inexpensive. Message T’s have emerged as a staple and often stand for more than just fashion, but in a light hearted way. Because while social media, news clips and a hot cup of coffee set the tone for the day, so too can a well worded t shirt.

ImageImage

Cat's...the annoying little brother of the pet family! Quiet, pesky and somehow always avoids trouble...take cheeky to a whole new level...wear it with this fabulous coat. Or, maybe your crazy cat lady friend, lives for her cats, this makes a fitting gift.

Bear Dance 'YOU'RE FREAKING MEOWT' T (heather grey)

I love how Bear Dance has chosen appealing basic colours which makes co-ordinating a breeze. Have a bit of fun...for example the markings of the cats tails can play into the coat patterns and make an interesting look.

I've never seen a cat that looked like it needed glasses...capable of spotting a tiny spider from well across the room...regardless, if they wore  them, they'd look as cunning as they are.  Here are more suggestions on how to play with patterns, interacting tones or textures.

Bear Dance 'OPTICAL CATS' (black)

Many other options to choose from...wear them with your usual running/workout wear, or bring on some laughs and conversation at the work place worn with a suit. And of course they make excellent gifts.

Bear Dance 'SANTA FELL' T

Bear Dance 'RED RIDING HOOD' T

Bear Dance 'I WORK HARD' T

Bear Dance 'PUGS DOING YOGA' T

Whatever issues you're dealing with (because, frankly we all have some), inject some fun into your life or the life of someone else you love...or buy a cat...equal amount of joy produced. Although-one of them tends to want you to wake up at 4 am to entertain them-hmmm tough call!.

20% OFF SWEATERS - in store only - head into a Plum store near you and get into something WARM and pretty!

Allegedly attributed to Oscar Wilde. Nonetheless, it's a humorously valid point. That being said, there is certainly room to 'try on' another persona from time to time and fashion is a great tool.  At times, I sometimes tire of my own 'dark-princess-boho-new-age-hippy-artist' look! You know? Maybe for instance, you've always wanted to be a prima ballerina but a feeling of awkwardness stood in your way, or a plumber, and your Mother said, 'you're too delicate to be a plumber dear'? Time to challenge your old stereotypes and unwrap another part of you! Go buy something pink or get yourself a pair of overalls and get yourself under that sink and explore those pipes! After all, it's still you, it's just an add on ;)
Image
Spotted this on the boss yesterday and it looked so good I almost paid her a compliment! This sumptuous, substantially textured open front sweater is such an eye catcher, as well so comfortable to wear.

Image
And speaking of sweaters...(because, they're 20% off right now and it's cold)...two things that go very well together. if I was to venture into the more feminine look, this is one I'd pick...an ice cream pink hue, cable knit, open front with lots of length.

Image

This billowy variegated mohair knit sweater compels me to curl up near a fireplace with a thick hard cover (or popcorn and Youtube)! Or I envision an artist bringing a large canvas to life! Regardless of who this adorns, it shows a lot of flair.

A bit of a departure from sweaters, thought I'd present something quite bright for the season. And red is huge this year. Shutter the thought that it ever went out. Despite it being holiday season, we're seeing a bit more than usual. Just a gorgeous, bold, flowey silk blend top that would work quite well for all other seasons and climates.

Life is just too short so, GO there, eat that, read that, watch that and go buy that thing that gives you a candy coated, cup cake frosting covered with sprinkles feeling. After all, who ARE YOU? Meghan Markle said when, as a child, she was required to fill out a form stating she was white or black...she turned to her father who said 'draw your own box'!

Work of Art

DON'T MISS OUT ON THIS 4 DAY DRESS SALE...find yourself something great for the holiday season (NOTE: RESORT WEAR is now arriving but is not included in this promotion)

Who would guess, an object consisting of canvas and barely escaping decayed paint, could sell for a record 400 million dollars. The mere twenty six inches in height painting, was once owned by King Charles the First of England. Other magnificent works of art such as Jackson Pollack's romantically titled 17A (which loosely resembles the contents of my head), historically sold for around 200 million dollars. I perhaps foolishly feel there are times I'm putting together a work of art when I dress for a party. I certainly don't fancy myself resembling Mona Lisa but it's fun to think that a well assembled outfit can elicit a similar perplexing head tilt or pleasant facial expressions! As well the other $399,900,000 can be better redirected to the likes of Yemen or Syria.

Image

It's perfectly reasonable to create your look around one garment...shoes, earrings...or, of course, a dress!  I would plan my week around this gorgeous garment. This is the most empyral fabric which has a look of authentic hand made lace and a truly sensational retro 60's look and design.

Image
One word describes this look...sexy, smouldering, sultry...ok 3. The goddess type drape top portion with it's cut out sleeves and open back, creates a great choice of adding a bold piece of bling to complete the look.

Image

Move over lace, velvet is also making a play for major looks for the season. Such a simple cut but with so much ability for creativity...be it adding a long, graceful locket or pendant or great chain belt.

Image
Another simple design but with heaps of options for accessorizing, with a bold gem shade, complimentary neckline and comfortable, appealing length.

Image
A dress with potential to stretch into further seasons. Suitable for so many festive occasions from work parties to open house parties and beyond.

ImageImage

If dresses are really not your thing and separates are, consider this as an option. Who doesn't like to do a twirl around the living room pretending to be a ballerina...ok just me I guess. Designed with pearls and small stones that catch the light, this ethereal skirt creates a fun look. Possibly pair it with an embellished graphic t, add a wide belt and roll up the sleeves or wear it with a bolero for a light hearted party look. Ballet flats, Mary Jane's or patterned boots are great footwear options.

Beauty and certainly art are in the eye of the beholder, be it an Elvis velvet framed print or a Rembrandt self portrait no one can argue what appeals most to you. And remember, when someone tells you, you're beautiful inside and out, make sure to check your teeth for lipstick! (but I'm sure you are!)
