There's still time...HEAD INTO a Plum location, try on a pair of YOGA JEANS (until November 19) and be entered to win a pair!
Bah Humbug: There are many fascinating possible origins of this utterance...BUH, is just an expletive, Humbug means 'fraud' or 'imposter'. However, put together they are typically associated with Charles Dickens 'A Christmas Carol'. Personally it means, 'meh', Christmas...too much fuss! Which makes me a true 'Humbug' as, contrary to my usual ways, I've already purchased some Christmas gifts, bought Christmas cards (yes I'm that old, I still do that), and am planning my outfits. After all, the season provides an excuse to be bright, look festive and have fun. Sort of like an open bar at a wedding, it's there, why not enjoy it. So, whether you celebrate this season or not, take in some of the joy, let it rub off on you, let your sparkle show (unless it's undies-no one needs to see those).
Sometimes, to up the fun of the season, it just means add something different...bolder. And by bold, I don't mean, red or glitter. This gorgeous sweater stands out, merely because of it's beguiling texture! Soft as a kittens arm pits! And hats add a lot of punctuating style to an outfit.
My ongoing love affair with the kimono trend continues. It adds a touch of interest to the outfit while also adding a bit of coverage and in this case, with this burnout velvet, the feel of elegance.
The 'Roaring 20's, in fashion, ushered in a tremendous amount of change; hair styles, clothing and attitudes. This dress really brings a 'Great Gatsby' feel. A sort of subtle glamour, with it's beautiful, detailed sequin design and v neck back, with just a bit of stretch. Worn above with the ICHI open jacket, brings it up to the current upcoming 20's.
The season which is upon is, isn't all about sparkle....well, not entirely. It's the smell of pine trees, scented candles and many textures. Velvet is the official seasonal fabric, once and forever. Crushed velvet, it's close cousin, is also in high demand. As a separate, this works as well with jeans, as it does with a skirt or tailored pants and provides a great backdrop for accessories. Also a must for the season.
Sometimes, the best gifts are...a phone call, a hand written card or shovelling someone's driveway. And it's never unseasonal to be good and kind to others, we don't need to reserve that to the last two months of the year.
Yours in sparkle passion...

DON'T FORGET...drop into a Plum store, try on a pair of Yoga's and be entered to win a pair (until November 19). According to an online article, a leopard's spots (coat pattern) appear to be genetic (I hope that wasn't an extensively funded study). Also, the report went on...serves the purpose of the very large feline blending into it's surroundings, thus having the advantage over it's prey...on the contrary for us females, when sporting this divine coat. We prefer to stand out and we CAN change our spots! Heck, we can change our minds, our attitudes, our sheets, apparently even our sex!? So many more advantages (and a bit less dangerous) to being a female than a large predatory cat! Here are a few more! If you're on the hunt for a print coat this year, this should be the one! It's a perfect length to go with the midi, maxi and as well the mini length dresses or skirts. Great layered with a jean jacket or try them with your favourite jeans and combat boots. ICHI coat with lightweight pile (leopard print) $149 As soon as November hits, the events begin. This is a dress that will be a seasonal forever dress for so many reasons. Comprised of stretch velvet, easy knee length, side slit, black and a 'suits all' cut. Think about wearing it with a destroyed jean jacket and OTK boots for more casual parties, or invest in a pair of embellished pumps or the hot ankle boot trend and (as above) a velvet burnout kimono for more formal events. B. Young velvet spaghetti strap dress (black or teal) $59 KW velvet burnout kimono (blue or purple) $59 Looking for a little bit of attention? OF COURSE you are! Well, this is the time of year where it's not only ok but you can expect all heads turning your way. Lots of beautiful stretch lace and slight gathers at the side, an interesting design feature. Kaffe Claudia lace dress (graphite) $ 109 Maybe you like co-ordinates instead...you know, they give you more bang for your buck...one day wear with jeans, another day wear with a pencil skirt or wide leg pants. Above are four fun, interesting and versatile tops that very easily go from festive season to functional daytime wear to Friday night out! Noble Paris London New York beaded t shirt (black or white) $65 Jane Plus 1 guazy mockneck blouse (ivory or teal) $69 Noble pearls knit top (black, white or pink) $59 Cream Selena print blouse (cream/blue) was This is a perfect season to 'change your spots', so to speak. A style you've been aching to try but just feel like it's, well...too much, too frivolous or not the 'usual' you? Well, who cares! Life is too short to not wear the mini, funky, tight, plush or wild. After all, no one must like what you wear, more important that they like who you are! Yours in fashion passion... Suzanne M. Denim has a tendency to look rugged and rough; certainly doesn't have a reputation of comfort any more than would a hug from Karl Lagerfeld. That bad rep. came to a complete halt when Second Jeans created it's famous Yoga jeans. Bend, stretch, do yoga in them, or just sit. Whatever you do, you can be sure to not only look great, but feel completely at ease in them. So if you've been afraid to try them, get out of your comfort zone. All you wear is athleisure you say? Leaning more heavily on the leisure than the 'ath' part...just try them! You won't look back. But you might find people taking long looks at your back(side)! :) A look that goes beyond the usual...jean jacket worn as a top with the great topper vest complimented by biker boots. Looking to accessorize a bit more...add an infinity scarf and a hat. Yoga straight leg jean (vertigo) 34" inseam - $138 worn with: KW camouflage vest with denim trim (denim) $89
My new favourites are the dark denims. A great vintage look that styles just as well cuffed with flats as they do with heels, BUT with all the stretch that hugs you like Grandma! And while I'm not ready to abandon the looks-like-you-took-part-in-a-rodeo-and-lost jeans, these are somewhat of a more uptown alternative look. Pair them with this sweet chantilly lace top, kitten heels for a great Friday night out style. Yoga midnight city skinny (midnight) $138 wear with: Soya concept Chantilly lace top (white) $69 The Italy Jean has been an all-time customer favourite season after season. Showcasing a traditional stonewash in a ring spun denim; these jeans typically flatter all body types with their signature skinny fit. Try them with the subtle star embossed sweater for weekend/casual. Yoga Italy jean - hand sanded (rinse) $148 wear with: Soya Concept tonal star sweater (purple) $89 Still on the topic of the dark denim, the straight leg has definitely not gone the way of the macramé plant holder. On the contrary, they provide just enough leg width to slide nicely over your boots, creating a really leggy effect. The Vertigo is a dark wash, with just slight whiskering, giving a super authentic, slightly worn appearance. For a less than formal work setting, wear with a whimsical bird print blouse and shawl collar jacket. Yoga straight leg jean (vertigo) 34" inseam - $138 wear with: Runway swan print blouse (pink or black) $59 Tobias open shawl collar jacket (black, mocha or plum)
On the same vein of dark denim, there is, in fact the classic black. Always in style and clearly can be paired with any colour, any style. This is the signature skinny fit in their newest fabric evolution. Wear comfortably with this great cable knit pull over, depending on the work place, can certainly work the 9 to 5 routine. Yoga Dakota and pitch black skinny (dakota or pitch black) $130 wear with: Kersh cable wide stripe sweater (fog mix/cream) $86 Second was ultimately created and continues to evolve with a woman's body in mind. Style, cut, denim wash and fit, check all the boxes of your denim requirements. Thus why Plum has carried this supreme brand for nearly a decade. Whether you find yourself chasing small children or big dreams, these jeans are constructed with our real lives and bodies in mind. Try them on for size, you won't be disapointed. Wouldn't it be fantastic if we could wear PJ's, robe and slippers to church...or our scuba gear to meet with an insurance agent....well....you CAN but I'm wondering how seriously you'd be taken. Would anyone hear a word you were saying? In a minor way, on a daily basis, we get the sideways glances...on a grander scale, fashion shaming IS NOW A THING! In a perfect world, we'd not be judged by our attire...however, it's not and we are! The latest fashaming report I recently viewed was towards our inspirational Malala...I wonder what's next, the Dalai Lama's robe is too 'ROBE-Y'!!?? We are constantly scrutinized for minor fashion infractions. BUT on at least one day we can be sure ANYTHING goes...Halloween...So let's go forth, have some fun...be creative. I promise not to judge your fireman/witch/bunny costume! So while you're flying through the city on your way from personnel meeting to party...you'll find this dress converts easily from night time to pretty much any time. Final Touch seamed mid length dress (black) $69 Something wicked this way comes....or..maybe that was just your awesomeness that flew by. Isn't this stunning? Coated to look like the finest leather, drape front with zipper pockets. Don't save this for only one day of the year though! BLVD drapy front coat (black) $110 If you're on the fence about whether to dress up for the day, or not....easy...wear a t shirt of a cat wearing a costume! OR, put on a head band with cat ears, slide into those sleek looking pants and don't forget the tail! Bear Dance optical cat (black) $35 M Chunky knit cardigan (brick) $95 Cream Carla coated jeans (black) $149
Something very medieval/damsel about this dress with its big, romantic looking sleeves. Try this with some patterned tights or hose and over the knee boots. Plum has some fabulous jewellery that would totally finish the look. Wasabi + Mint bell sleeve mini dress (hunter green or black) $79 Black really appears to be the most popular colour...for witches, and other mortals! Clearly, it sets off accessories so well, for starters, matches everything. Very light, romantic, ethereal top, however, it is also lined. Soya Concept lined georgette blouse (black) $69 I lecture my ten year old as she merrily skips away to school with a hole in her pants the size of her head and hair that looks like she slept under the bed...not on it....as I contentedly don my distressed jeans...'YOU'RE NOT LEAVING THE HOUSE LIKE THAT'!! Oh the irony!

Change is inevitable. Fashion, by its very definition, is about change. The industry has evolved dramatically and the biggest change is the number of choices women now have. Almost anything is available on line however the choices of what to wear has become daunting. I sympathize with women who are confused about what is on trend and what looks and feels right when they go looking for something new and wonderful to wear. At Plum we see this change as positive because as a buyer I now have more choice for our customers then I have ever had. My many years of experience has taught me how to sort through this abundance to find the best suppliers, the best prices and the best quality and designs for our customers, who I feel like I know intimately. More than ever I am sourcing the best Canadian, American and European fashion that meets our company's very strict criteria for quality and price. There are more styles in our stores now but fewer of each style so they tend to sell our faster (hint: if you love something you better get it because it won't be in the store long). If you would like to give me feedback about changes you see then send emails to info@plum.ca and I will be sure to read them. Kate O'Brien - Buyer and co-owner of Plum
Below are some examples of new items and lines that are in the stores now.
