My extensive wardrobe of navy blue, deep green and beige has long since been passed on; when my attempts to 'fit in' faded away. There was not enough coffee in the world, to energize those efforts. However, I don't wish to compel my children to feign having never met me, thus, I keep the eccentricity to a minimum. Plum's new Mavi Julliette smoke camo jeans are just the best of stand out, and blend in, combined. Providing the best contouring fit, married with a very common, very now, outstanding pattern. Interesting oxymoron!

I waited patiently for these to arrive and when they did, they did not disappoint. I love Camouflage and I find the smoke grey tones go with far more colours than the standard military green. Designed with an abundance of comfort as well, four pockets and two deep cargo pockets, they are destined to be the pant of the season. Unlikely to be appropriate for courtroom proceedings, otherwise, they will definitely be the most often chosen pair.

From the middle ages until such time as Coco Chanel was inspired by seamen's garb in the early 20th century, stripes were seen as a diabolical pattern. Currently I'd say stripes conjure up an image of brightness and happiness. Despite the rigidness, I find stripes far easier to work with other patterns and colours than one would think.

ICHI long sleeve stripe t shirt (brick red) $49

These crop cuffed pants in camel colour, are yet another convivial hue that helps usher in the spring feeling. Always good to have a few neutral tones that take little or no thought to co-ordinate.

Jag Juliette pant (baby camel or nautical navy) $89

Image

This cobalt blue, waterfall front vest is a must for the redheads. A deep and intense colour, this jewel tone, tends to go very well with yellow, red and even turquoise. Try it belted to add extra style freshness, a pair of black skinnies and a pair of multi tone heels to add to the drama.

M sleeveless vest (cobalt or white) $75

The moto jacket has risen to the top of the trends in the last few years. Ichi has given it a cool, yet sophisticated twist with it's linen/cotton composition. A really nice possible change up for the corporate setting.

ICHI linen blend jacket moto style (straw) $119

ICHI linen blend skirt (staw) $79

Fitting in, likely means you are at home in an environment that is most like you. Blending in, can mean you've adapted to the environment. But if you step out of those and feel more comfortable being different, then you are at home! And home is not a place, it's a feeling!

A couple of shout outs...one to the staff at Plum's Granville location. I stepped in for a mere 10 minutes on the weekend, with two kids in tow and was utterly impressed by the service once again! Thank you! And on this, World Downs Syndrome day to someone very close to me who regularly teaches me, different is who we all are!

$20 COUPON - MIN $95 PURCHASE - OFFER EXPIRES SUNDAY MARCH 25*

How dare I talk about pink. After all, it's like Donald Trump giving a Ted Talk on staff retention. Ok...not quite, because, I respect pink, I dress my children in it, I smile when I see pink flowers, and I would not buy and then get rid of pink. In any case, it's one of the most popular of spring colours. And let's not forget just how many romantic walks take place during a Rayleigh scattering (aka: pink sunset). Pink is...well, a happy colour that generally elicits good feelings. And apparently there is a millennial pink. So, let's explore the colour of now:

Image

This is just 'the' sweetest combination...pink, with crochet lace and paired with denim. Pink truly seems to be at it's best with the ruggedness of denim. They bring out the best in each other.

Cream lace blouse (chalk or sea pink) $79

Image

I think this open front jacket is just a brilliant take on the blazer with the added frill edging. If you're a little too timid to go too feminine, again, as above, wear with jeans and find a fun, graphic or band t to pair it with to offset the girliness.

Cream cardigan jacket (midnight or sea pink) $99

Image

Or...maybe just a light whisper of pink perhaps? Great blouse, fresh and light; love it paired with the pencil skirt but would clearly work well with ankle length jeans or trousers. Liven it up with a pendant or three and your favourite jacket.

Ichi long sleeve blouse (rose dust) $69

Ichi houndstooth skirt (black) $69

Image

Utilitarian + pink = pretty functional. A sweet, simple cut that's sure to appeal to most, with a carefree print which to me resembles pussy willows blowing in the wind.

Ichi dress (dark grey, military olive, navy or old rose) $65

Imagine a world where crows, piano keys or dulse (it's an east coast thing), were pink....hmmm...maybe not! Because really,  there's a good reason why pink is the colour typically associated with anti bullying and fighting breast cancer. Because despite it being a light hearted version of it's angry, edgy, cousin red, the power of pink is in it's softness. Because kindness rules!

$20 COUPON - MIN $95 PURCHASE - OFFER EXPIRES SUNDAY MARCH 25*

On this day of International Women's day, let's remember the countless women, mothers, grandmothers who run businesses, make breakfast, wipe counters and babies tears. And while men take credit for the invention of the zipper, Velcro and even the Wonderbra, the women of this country historically have their own admirable contributions. Dr. Frances Oldham Kelsey, Charlotte Whitton, Viola Desmond, Fannie Rosenfeld, Mary Shadd Cary, Elsie Knott and countless other historic Canadian women, leaders, trailblazers and innovators who's achievements paved the way for so many of our daily freedoms. Plum is a proud supporter of two organizations known for encouraging, both little girls (Big Sisters) and women of all ages (Dress for Success) who some day will hope to reach their own personal goals. Today... for me... I achieved vertical status (aka: getting out of bed), no accomplishment is too small!

Image

Looking fabulous and pulled together requires two things, colours that bring out the best you....and YOU! Gone are the days that blazers come in navy blue and black only. Find them in patterns and all our favourite hue's. I love the ultra feminine shade of pink with the bold intricate patterned blouse!

Kaffe blazer (bridal rose) $119

Creme multi print blouse (multi) $89

ImageImage

Blouses continue to have a place in the casual as well as the professional settings, always creating a sleek image. Today's blouse features an interesting, artistic pattern and open back vent. A unique design feature.

B. Young shirt bird print (black/white/pink) $59

Image

The little wicker bag and a crocheted edge pink top, just tease us towards summer. The little bag, so reminiscent of Sunday school or picnics...so sweet!

Cream lace blouse (sea pink and chalk) $79

Joseph D'Arezzo tan wicker bucket $45

Image

A favourite spring leg length for pants is this ankle length. Easy to pair with different shoe heights, sandals, boots and what's not to love with the vertical stripes.

Motion ankle pant tripe (blue/white) $78

Women like Harriet Brooks or Rosalind Franklin, may have been overlooked in being recognized for their scientific discoveries and contributions, but, consider this...we are capable of growing a whole entire human being. We win!

Not so fast! To insinuate, we, the female population prefer to 'copy' someone else's style rather than create our own...GASP!? Could this really be the case? Do we not prefer to put our individual styleprint on our outfits?  Although, there appears to be an entire industry devoted to what the biggest celeb is wearing. After all, if the Duchess of Cambridge so much as puts on a smile, it sells out! But that does not mean we can't put our own punctuation mark on a trend!
Image

Men throw on jeans with little regard for what goes with it.  We, the opposite sex, then borrow them and turn them into something hot or just hotter! The beauty of these ageless dungarees is, they embody comfort, they're forever funky and if you just want them for germinating your geraniums, that's completely acceptable too. BUT if fashion fun is your thing, add a pair of jacquard print booties, add a belted blazer, and pull your hair up like you just don't care! Poof! You're a fashion diva! Not that you weren't already!

Image

Unless your dwelling is a grand Scottish castle, or you were the inventor of the colour blue, like the rest of us, you don't get your twenty dollar bills from your back yard tree. In short, you want to maximize your wardrobe! And jeans can do that. Dress them them up, dress them down or just go it simple (but sexy). Here's a great contrast to the ruggedness of the jeans. Feminine, flirty, irresistible.

Image
The fashion pages are currently filled with stripes and dots. An easy pairing is this black and white with jeans or pretty much anything you have in mind. Simple, yet fresh.

Here are a few more ideas...a slight bend on the usual white shirt, tie the front for a bit of a sexy flair, slip a chain belt through the loops, and top it off with this crop sweater. OR wear the sweater alone, buttoned up as a top with a string of pearls. Cardigans are such a wardrobe work horse!

The same pair of jeans, just never needs to looks the same on any two people. Simply add a hat, a scarf, tie it in an unusual way, funky boots or a bold, unexpected necklace. Or add your broach to your hair bun, for a different approach. Any number of ways to put your personal stamp on a look. But I truly feel the best accessory (if you can call it that), is your posture. Because no matter what is ripped, torn, shredded or uneven....somehow, great posture and an air of confidence, make it look like it's meant to be! You trend setter you!!

When you think of red, do you instantly think of roses, lipstick, a fireman's hat? Or does your mind go to lobster, Ronald McDonald's hair, blood donations or Canada's flag! Go team Canada Go!! Regardless of how your mind works, it really is head turning. Thus why it's the colour for stop signs, alerts or Valentine's day.  And did you know that July 25 celebrates St. Valentina, a Palestinian woman martyred in 308 AD. So apparently one can celebrate Valentine's day on other days other than Feb.14th. Although, I don't need an excuse for chocolates year round.

Image
A sweet, feminine and yet easy dress design. Draws all the eyes to you and yet you can move so freely in this flowey maxi.

Image

A great sweater for layering, with it's very light, sheer texture. Wear it with a blouse or a tank top beneath in an alternate colour.

Image

Another delightful pattern, yet in red floral. Florals are synonymous with spring and the above dress is a sweet take on an easy fitting style. Featuring a unique, complete button down the back design, thus creating an alternative. Wear it front to back or back to front. And if you prefer the 'violets are blue', it also comes in a blue pattern.

Image

Of course, there are other versions of red, less bright. Like the above sleeveless, more earthy, terracotta shade. Featuring a drawstring, a mid waist flounce and an exquisite allover floral print.

Shall we talk about love and pink? Love is a touchy subject and pink...it's just a red wanna be! Just kidding, it's just a less assertive cousin of red. Sweet and nice but not as risky!

Be Young love print t shirt (white) $29

Cream ruffle front open cardigan (spring rose) $99

So if red is your colour and passionate hue

can't fathom wearing, purple, grey or blue

you're likely to be the first to go find or explore

challenges for you are never a chore

They say you're assertive, they say you're in charge

because you live life ever so large

So lover of red, I raise a glass to you (red of course)

Some advice, a fact, so true

as you look at me, your eyebrows have creases

Just remember that bikini's still come in TWO pieces!

For 5 days only: find a beautiful Simone or Wink Wink dress at 25% off (to Feb.12).

Be it a wedding dress, a night dress, an LBD...or anything in between, when we find 'the' dress, it's tantamount to finding the love of our lives. After all, nothing gives you that gush of soul melting warmth, like the perfect dress. According to National Geographic, a five thousand year old dress called the 'Tarkhan Dress' is potentially the oldest constructed dress found to date, not wrapped or draped. That certainly is the penultimate of vintage and needless to say a 'keeper'.  But perhaps easier than an acheaological dig would be a trip to Plum. Known for stocking a variety of dress designs to suit multiple body types.

Image

Mimicking the blue daisy this sweet water colour like print is a great introduction to spring. Super easy to wear and extremely comfortable comprised of a supple stretch material and a delicate tie back for slightly more definition. Great for work wear or weekends away.

Wink wink cross front dress with cap sleeves (3 print choices) for 4 days only $73.50

Image

The knotted hem (or rather knotted anything); while not a brand new trend, is a trend not showing signs of slowing down. Creates a fun, unique feature to an otherwise basic cut.

Wink Wink knot hem tank dress (coral or grey print) for 4 days only $66.75

Image

One of Plum's all time favourite dress cuts. Sought after for it's universally appealing, to most body types, design.

Simone sleeveless dress with back shirring (2 prints) for 4 days only $96.75

ImageImage

This is not part of the sale, but it's definitely worth a look. Explore your inner Egyptian princess in this gorgeous maxi dress. With several ways to wear this, and add  to that, multiple ways to accessorize, you have an excellent travel garment for the warmer climates.

Mustard Seed maxi dress (black, coral or heather grey) $89

Image

This is also not part of the sale, but it's super fun and easy. The elegant drape of rayon, off the shoulder flirty design and beautiful botanical floral print make this a perfect choice for spring or travels to warmer climates. Feel too timid to do the off the shoulder look? Wear a lace tank under or simply don't wear it off the shoulder! Belt it, wear it as a mini, or even wear it as a beach cover up.

Misia rayon print mini dress (coral) $79

The designer Balenciaga said 'A woman has no need to be perfect or even beautiful to wear one of my dresses, the dress will do that for her'. Coco Chanel said 'Look for the woman in the dress, if there is no woman, there is no dress'. I say, it's just a dress, it has no lofty purpose, but it can put a smile on your face, which is something you can share with others!
