Change is inevitable. Fashion, by its very definition, is about change. The industry has evolved dramatically and the biggest change is the number of choices women now have. Almost anything is available on line however the choices of what to wear has become daunting. I sympathize with women who are confused about what is on trend and what looks and feels right when they go looking for something new and wonderful to wear.
At Plum we see this change as positive because as a buyer I now have more choice for our customers then I have ever had. My many years of experience has taught me how to sort through this abundance to find the best suppliers, the best prices and the best quality and designs for our customers, who I feel like I know intimately.
More than ever I am sourcing the best Canadian, American and European fashion that meets our company's very strict criteria for quality and price. There are more styles in our stores now but fewer of each style so they tend to sell our faster (hint: if you love something you better get it because it won't be in the store long).
If you would like to give me feedback about changes you see then send emails to info@plum.ca and I will be sure to read them.

Our current times are such that fashion has provided us with a multitude of trend choices which are more undulating than stagnant and fixed. Seasonally though, there are a few that rise to the top of our must have lists. You know your body, know it's strengths so let that knowledge lead the way. There are so many trends that if something doesn't grab you, there will be many other options. After all, feeling good in what you wear means you feel more powerful and strong and able to tackle your daily routine, seamlessly without agonizing about your fashion choice. Here are a few to get excited about:
These are fabulous and THEY ARE HERE, in store and online! You have got to try these. They truly look like real, fine leather but they're vegan as they say. Grab a girlfriend, go into a Plum store and try these on...they are so sexy looking!
Cream Carla coated jeans (black) $149
Two trends in one...the floral/botanical print and the bomber jacket turns a boys style into something pretty! The fact that it's floral, creates more opportunity for occasions and places to wear. Not just for the weekend with jeans. Try it with a colour coordinated poncho, great with a dress, or wide leg pants.
Be Young Desta floral bomber jacket (black/red) $109
Ruffles and frills. While they are super cute and feminine, they may not be for everyone, OR you merely have to find a way to wear it that it works for your body type. Head into a Plum location and Plum staff will help turn your obsession with a current trend into something you will want to wear, not just this season.
Wasabi bell sleeve mini dress (black or hunter green) $79
Cream ruffle shell top (cream) $89
Soya concept Swiss dot blouse (off white) $69
My favourite thing about colour block is, not having to worry about matching patterns; you can wear various colours either together or monochrome beneath. Again, in store staff can help you find other great coordinates.
Point Zero colour block open cardigan (wine) $86
Plaid is a really fun pattern to play with. Try it with plain white stripes, polka dots, above worn with jeans or wrap a bright red scarf at the neck. Tuck it into a skirt or jeans, or button it up and add a funky necklace.
Sneak Peak blue plaid shirt (blue/white) $79
A lot of trends seem to be set by the elite who are chauffeured around and thus can wear 5 inch heels and discard what they wore yesterday....however, we live in the real world so.... some basic advice? Teeth and good posture are always in style so remember to brush and stand up straight!

Trends, how to pick them, how to wear them and how to integrate them with your current lifestyle, can be as daunting and confusing as an annual financial report, so, don't waste your brain power. Head into a Plum location near you, and enjoy the human experience! Because online customer service reps are in a pop up window!

Attention fellow procrastinators....fear not, there is still time to grab your coupon* here
Attitude, generally, can mean you have some level of arrogance, self righteousness OR it can mean you're spunky, feisty and spirited. Which is not a bad thing! BUT there is no reason you can't have both types of 'tude...gratitude and attitude. Go on...espouse both qualities, it will truly confuse people! Wear your attitude, but be very gracious. Wear your attitude, but help the old lady across the street with her groceries; sure you might look like you might intimidate even Anna Wintour...but you'd provide life saving mouth to mouth on a kitten....the world needs more of you! Keeps us all on our toes!
You really should try on a little bit of 'sass'! (but not with your Mamma)! These jeans are so incredibly hot, and before you let the words 'I can't' slip out of your mouth...try them on! They have plenty of stretch! Super sleek style that looks fantastic with the contrasting angel white...but so many possibilities. Really stand out style!
Lots of time to talk yourself into these...they're coming SOON!
A bit of a mixture, a simple t shirt dress...with a twist...literally! A high hip level twist and a small slit adds a bit of spice to the usual knit dress style!
Wasabi+Mint side twist dress (black or burgundy) $69
Abundant with grand style with some echoes of the Marilyn Monroe era. Not strictly to be worn with solids, a new, bold way to wear leopard print is with different patterns, as if it were a neutral. A basic rule of thumb for this fashion forward look is, keep each pattern within the same colour family. Or also great as a topper, layer over a denim jacket for fickle weather patterns.
Be Young asymmetric leopard print coat (black/brown) $139
So maybe you're not that interested in sass-tude! Here are a couple of great sweaters that are lovely with subtle, muted colours to suit. One covers the grommet and lace up trend really well, while the other mimic's a hand made style with a classic scoop neck. Many more in store to choose from.
Miracle lace v-neck sweater (5 colours) $79
Miracle chunky slub yarn sweater (blue or blush) $75
While some say Thanksgiving has been celebrated for nearly 400 years, really...isn't Thanks Giving every day? And having an attitude of gratitude is what helps jell our society, keeps us from caving during turbulent times.

I'm dedicating this weeks blog to my big brother. And what in heaven's blue sky does an older brother have to do with shopping or fashion? Well, his actions reminded me, we don't always purchase clothing for ourselves, sometimes as gifts. As, my brother regularly does things for others, some would say it's his part time job. Recently, he bought Plum gift cards and donated them to a couple who were the victims of theft of all of their worldly goods, having just moved across the country. While precious memories and meaningless trinkets that to us, hold the souls of our loved ones, when lost, cannot be replaced...knowing we have new fresh clothes on our backs...can somewhat lighten the challenge. This morning I didn't yell while ushering the children off to school, and I thought that was tremendous! It seems I should aim slightly higher. ;)
I'm a huge fan of the poncho phase, which appears to not be slowing down. In part because it fills many gaps...they're warm, they look great, they go with most other garments and layer extremely well. This one would make a fantastic gift for someone because of it's ubiquitous fall shades, unique curved, ribbed edge and sleeves and it's universal appeal!
Kaffe Maria poncho (dark grey mix) $89
This season at Plum we're noticing that people are reaching for designs that are unique and different. I can't think of anything that personifies that description more than this 'PURE' Jacquard coat dress. An absolute head turner, but what I also love about this is, it's divine feminine shape.
PURE Jacquard coat dress with asymmetric hem (charcoal or silver) $179
As I mentioned in previous blogs, jumpsuits are massively popular this season. With our harried lives, we often gravitate to what's simplest. While this is classified as easy, I can think of multiple ways to funk this up, if your usual is to be creative. Add a wide belt AND even add a chain belt as well. Or a wide belt and a collection of pendants, or a scarf and the newest trend is embellished boots.
SPRING HAZE 3/4 sleeve jumpsuit (black or olive) $89
Tunics are hugely popular as well currently. Again for their ability to create multiple different types of outfits, as a dress or as a top. Add in the multicolour stripes and it's an equation anyone can figure out.
Point Zero long sleeve swing dress (navy stripe) $79
What is community service to you? To some it entails taking charge of an annual event, to others it means simply checking in on an elderly neighbor regularly. Plum is a huge part of it's community from sponsorships to being regular sponsors of Dress for Success and Big Sisters. And really, reaching out to others, will never go out of style!

I'd like to just take a moment to show my appreciation for my brother, my husband and friends who officially and unofficially invest in their community. Thank you!

So, I've decided to venture towards this massive, white, senescent pachyderm in the room! After all, what is that and where is the Dept of Age Appropriate situated? And if there 'is' a line to cross into inappropriate I'm fairly sure, I've not only tripped, but vaulted over it at times. Yet, I respect that we often work in industries where our customers might lack faith in our judgment, should we decide to dress like Betsey Johnson while (for instance) attempting to sell burial plots to the grief stricken. That might not work that well! But, occasionally, maybe we feel like stepping out of our comfort zone and just 'trying' something fun or silly...just because we like it. Because fashion should be fun, not frightening!
I adore this coat. Absolute winner this season. Fun, bold, universally appealing colour combination, substantially heavy weight, perfect length...what is not to love? This works for anyone, of any age, from kitten to cougar!
Kaffe Selby tiger stripe coat (grey mix) $219
Jumpsuits have come a long way since Elvis' time. While you might possibly pass this up deeming it to be too revealing, with a bit of creativity (as above) this can easily work from day to date! Add a whimsical top, a scarf or a distracting eclectic mix of vintage pendants.
Wasabi+Mint strappy jumpsuit (black) $79
Season after season, Bear Dance continues to entertain us with their amusing take on the t shirt. "BUT I'M OVER 50!!" you proclaim...meh, Fifty shmifty....fun has no age limits. Throw on a blazer, an infinity scarf and a pair of plimsolls and you have your weekend look.
Bear Dance optical cats (black) $35
The typical harem pant (gathered bottom) has come back as an alternative fit. Up the style function with pumps or sandals, or tuck them into boots. I typically avoid wearing the camo prints to 'meet the teacher' meetings as I like them to believe I'm co-operative not combative. Otherwise the print keeps coming back season after season presenting an alternative to florals.
Cream drapey pant (olive) $119
Not only is this pretty much an ageless look, it's also compelling for anyone who aims for comfort as a minimum fashion requirement. A universally popular style, married with the comfort of terry, add in pockets and above the knee length and this becomes a jacket, or a dress, or a shirt. Add or subtract tights or a belt ...there are so many combinations.
Pure French terry shirt dress (black or denim) $98
Here's a top that has been a huge hit at Plum. Crosses the boundaries of casual to fashion in a very creative, yet easy going way. Doesn't distract from the smoking hot footwear you're aching to show off, rather a good balance!
Pure slouchy knit sweater tunic (ash, fig) $98
When I was 20 I didn't want to look 20, now that I'm double that (give or take 10), I still don't want to look 20 either. I don't feel the need to wear tinsel in my hair or neon lipstick, and I have respect for the establishments I frequent...work, school, banks, churches, however, fashion is a fun way to express myself and when I'm 90, I presume I won't loose that. I might loose my teeth and hair but not my sense of amusement.
