repeat after me

Indulge me while I talk about Kimonos....again. Some things are just worth repeating. Like a great vacation spot, a fabulous selfie (ask Kim K), a great kiss or another piece of cake! Kimonos...they're simply one of the best garments of the moment and the buyer seems to have her finger on the fashion pulse (Plum just received some new styles)! Speaking of pulses...some days, I can barely find mine with four cups of coffee and a shower...therefore, the simpler the better. And Kimonos give you a chance to just grab and go, like the breakfast bar of your wardrobe...and still look like two millions bucks (inflation).

Image

Time to explore your inner Hippie-boho-festival-gaia...or cool chick..whichever emerges! I love this one for it's sheer simplicity, yet at the same time, enough pattern to amuse and create interest and facilitates coordination without much challenge.

Kimono (border print in beige or grey) $59

Image

If I haven't mentioned this already, one great reason to adore the Kimono is, most are one-sized, therefore making it, all about finding a pattern/colour you like, as apposed to fit...easy peasy, go ahead and eat those cheesies. SO the opposite issue to buying a bathing suit *big sigh*. I'd previously stated many times, how great black and white is for the sake of co-ordination, and the above offers the same.  And if you're inclined to like a more complex look, why not belt it!

Kimono with front panel (black multi) $49

ImageImage

This blue kimono is just a breath of fresh air. So light, so exquisitely embroidered with tiny embellishments to catch the light. Fabulous as above with shorts or in keeping with the blue, vintage fringe edge jeans. Convert your look from a weekend, errand-running put together... to a casual dinner/drinks with friends occasion, with a simple change into heels, hair pulled up and some vintage look earrings.

Kimono - flower embroidered (blue) $79

Image

Can you picture yourself wearing this, strolling through your vineyard, leisurely harvesting luscious grapes? (It's ok to have fantasies that don't include chocolate)...The minute I see someone wearing yellow, it immediately evokes unrecognizable feelings of calm(lol). The bright yellow print is a great colour to explore as it has so many hue's it will perform well with.

Kimono -  floral (mustard print) $49

ImageImage

Image

This gorgeous kimono is awash with blossoms. To try... tie it in the front for something different. Pair with these light mustard linen pants, which also comes in a few more seasonal pigments. Maybe take the self belt, wear it as a hair band and put a chain belt through the loops instead. Don't have one? Use a long, strong link necklace. Fun to experiment!

Kimono - long floral (yellow or black) $79

Catwalk gathered waist with tie pant (beige, mustard or pink) $92

Image

Note the shorter length. Great for pairing with shorts, or a wide leg palazzo pant. Also, I could see this moving into early fall, stretching your wardrobe a bit into multiple seasons.

Kimono - floral (black) $59

If something is repeated, does it make a more profound impression, become more meaningful or important? Certainly not to my children! That being said, sometimes we need to say things to ourselves repeatedly for them to sink in...so repeat after me...'I deserve a new kimono....and that second piece of cake'!

Model this!

SSHHH!!!!! AN additional 20% off sale prices...until July 2nd...try not to tell anyone! (JUST KIDDING...tell everyone)...in store only!

If you're like me and have unconventional proportions, improvising and being creative, learning to sew and alter are just something you're used to. If you're still struggling with this fact, just know, It's far easier than you think to accommodate your specific proportions. And maybe you're looking for a way to diversify your style! One great, new find this season is the jumpsuit...the garment often viewed as kitschy (Elvis) or merely coveralls for auto mechanics, has made a big comeback. And we couldn't be more grateful...thank you...thank you very much!

Image

Often viewed as, well...boring, with few options for expanding on the look, the jumpsuit is really anything but. I've seen it worn under a great top, various types of belts to break up the colour, and worn alone (as above) or with a tank top or button down blouse. This one is comprised of rayon and linen, which thus gives it a bit of a lush, more elegant drape. If you have somewhat of a longer torso, note the adjustable straps, back elastic (and of course, pockets!). While it's presented above with very casual footwear, change the tone of the look entirely by introducing a pump, or strappy sandal. Really, much more can be done with this garment than just putting it on!

In Love midi length jump suit (black, brick or mustard) $89

Image

Sometimes, we just tire of the same old same old...such as black or beige pants, or heaven forbid in this heat, long pants...a nice departure from the long or the super short. Providing a bit of give and take is a bit of elastic in the waist and some very easy to coordinate colours. And tuck in your shirt or don't...I'm not your mother so, I won't be dictating your style options! ;)

M woven crop stripe pant (stripe) $89

Image

Apparently v necks are an excellent neckline for those of us with a lot 'up stairs' (aka:.boobs)! I love this top and I think the lace is great for everyone. The pretty floral pattern with a black background proves you can still wear black and look summery!

Allie Rose tank lace edge (black floral or ivory floral) $32

Image

And perhaps what you feel most awkward about is your mid section. With this mid frill, no one would have a clue about this but you (and maybe your therapist). A great pairing for this sweet, feminine top is crop pants, shorts or even a pencil skirt.

Peppermint floral print knit top (black or off white print) $45

Image

I can see this dress as one that one constantly reaches for, because of it's bright, summery pattern and comfortable construction. Perhaps an excellent choice for those concise in height. Ignore me, it clearly works for everyone, as we can see from the model who is, how do I put this...unabridged!

Very J mesh strap print dress (black print) $95

Image

The ubiquitous white shirt...classic, fresh and timeless. A wardrobe essential that goes with so many things. Worn alone just creates a lighthearted feeling, or use it as a display for your favourite accessories! And yes, you might need to iron it, but it's worth it for a nice crisp look.

Catwalk button front linen blouse (taupe or white) $89

Saudi Arabia went overboard in the 'creative' department recently at a fashion show, using drones instead of flesh and blood human beings to display some new creations. I think I'd rather sit on a sun deck and watch the laundry blow in the breeze or pay a visit to my local dry cleaners and retrieve some of my favourite things all fresh and clean. No drivers license required!

ENJOY the human experience of shopping in one of Plum's locations. However, if you just can't make it in, IT'S FREE shipping time:

FREE SHIPPING

  • UNTIL OCTOBER 31
  • MIN. PURCHASE $95

Our current times are such that fashion has provided us with a multitude of trend choices which are more undulating than stagnant and fixed. Seasonally though, there are a few that rise to the top of our must have lists. You know your body, know it's strengths so let that knowledge lead the way. There are so many trends that if something doesn't grab you, there will be many other options. After all, feeling good in what you wear means you feel more powerful and strong and able to tackle your daily routine, seamlessly without agonizing about your fashion choice. Here are a few to get excited about:

Image

These are fabulous and THEY ARE HERE, in store and online! You have got to try these. They truly look like real, fine leather but they're vegan as they say. Grab a girlfriend, go into a Plum store and try these on...they are so sexy looking!

Cream Carla coated jeans (black) $149

Image

Two trends in one...the floral/botanical print and the bomber jacket turns a boys style into something pretty! The fact that it's floral, creates more opportunity for occasions and places to wear. Not just for the weekend with jeans. Try it with a colour coordinated poncho, great with a dress, or wide leg pants.

Be Young Desta floral bomber jacket (black/red) $109

Ruffles and frills.  While they are super cute and feminine, they may not be for everyone, OR you merely have to find a way to wear it that it works for your body type. Head into a Plum location and Plum staff will help turn your obsession with a current trend into something you will want to wear, not just this season.

Wasabi bell sleeve mini dress (black or hunter green) $79

Cream ruffle shell top (cream) $89

Soya concept Swiss dot blouse (off white) $69

Image

My favourite thing about colour block is, not having to worry about matching patterns; you can wear various colours either together or monochrome beneath. Again, in store staff can help you find other great coordinates.

Point Zero colour block open cardigan (wine) $86

Image

Plaid is a really fun pattern to play with. Try it with plain white stripes, polka dots, above worn with jeans or wrap a bright red scarf at the neck. Tuck it into a skirt or jeans, or button it up and add a funky necklace.

Sneak Peak blue plaid shirt (blue/white) $79

A lot of trends seem to be set by the elite who are chauffeured around and thus can wear 5 inch heels and discard what they wore yesterday....however, we live in the real world so.... some basic advice? Teeth and good posture are always in style so remember to brush and stand up straight!

"I don't like princesses!!" my 9 year old daughter proclaimed to her very generous Aunt who offered her a princess-type gift. Aside from the pre-programmed maternal feelings of mortification, there also drifted away some of my 'Mommy' dreams of dresses and clean, neat hair! Perhaps you're not the majestic type either; not into multiple layers of adornment and perfectly coifed hair. Either end of the spectrum is clearly fine, just know yourself...be yourself and boldly go with that!

Image

Go with something simple and by all means, abandon the high heels if need be. If you prefer uncomplicated, no reason this would not fit. A slight a-line shape, a naively bold, floral print with pockets. A simple, somewhat retro dress, yet the border adds a modern touch.

Simone shift dress with black trim (coral or teal) $129

Image

It really can't get less complicated than one piece. Made with tencel, this jumpsuit, is fun, easy and great for weekend getaways or even day to night activities. Slip on some strappy sandals, try it with a long sweeping open front cardigan or a shawl.

Ellison tencel jumpsuit (light blue) $95

Image

On the other hand, if you do find yourself more at the romantic end of the spectrum, you can stop here. ACAPELLA make some lovely blouses, this one with such a feminine, floral design.

Acapella oversize cap sleeve blouse (3 prints) $59

Image

Romance is definitely not dead when you don this gorgeous dress. More engaging florals, a cotton fabrication with a hint of stretch, and fully lined make this dress perfect for wedding season. You'll be breath taking.

Simone floral empire waist dress (ivory/pink or silver/multi) $175

I'm afraid, like my daughter, I've never really believed in fairy tales, prince charming or knights in shining armour. However, I do believe fashion allows us to take us to another place or boldly be ourselves and express it with colour and style...And anyway, 'Cinderella never asked for a prince, only a night off and a dress' -Kiera Cass.

....and we all lived fashionably ever after!
