trends

Not so fast! To insinuate, we, the female population prefer to 'copy' someone else's style rather than create our own...GASP!? Could this really be the case? Do we not prefer to put our individual styleprint on our outfits?  Although, there appears to be an entire industry devoted to what the biggest celeb is wearing. After all, if the Duchess of Cambridge so much as puts on a smile, it sells out! But that does not mean we can't put our own punctuation mark on a trend!

Men throw on jeans with little regard for what goes with it.  We, the opposite sex, then borrow them and turn them into something hot or just hotter! The beauty of these ageless dungarees is, they embody comfort, they're forever funky and if you just want them for germinating your geraniums, that's completely acceptable too. BUT if fashion fun is your thing, add a pair of jacquard print booties, add a belted blazer, and pull your hair up like you just don't care! Poof! You're a fashion diva! Not that you weren't already!

Unless your dwelling is a grand Scottish castle, or you were the inventor of the colour blue, like the rest of us, you don't get your twenty dollar bills from your back yard tree. In short, you want to maximize your wardrobe! And jeans can do that. Dress them them up, dress them down or just go it simple (but sexy). Here's a great contrast to the ruggedness of the jeans. Feminine, flirty, irresistible.

The fashion pages are currently filled with stripes and dots. An easy pairing is this black and white with jeans or pretty much anything you have in mind. Simple, yet fresh.

Here are a few more ideas...a slight bend on the usual white shirt, tie the front for a bit of a sexy flair, slip a chain belt through the loops, and top it off with this crop sweater. OR wear the sweater alone, buttoned up as a top with a string of pearls. Cardigans are such a wardrobe work horse!

The same pair of jeans, just never needs to looks the same on any two people. Simply add a hat, a scarf, tie it in an unusual way, funky boots or a bold, unexpected necklace. Or add your broach to your hair bun, for a different approach. Any number of ways to put your personal stamp on a look. But I truly feel the best accessory (if you can call it that), is your posture. Because no matter what is ripped, torn, shredded or uneven....somehow, great posture and an air of confidence, make it look like it's meant to be! You trend setter you!!

ENJOY the human experience of shopping in one of Plum's locations. However, if you just can't make it in, IT'S FREE shipping time:

FREE SHIPPING

  • UNTIL OCTOBER 31
  • MIN. PURCHASE $95

Our current times are such that fashion has provided us with a multitude of trend choices which are more undulating than stagnant and fixed. Seasonally though, there are a few that rise to the top of our must have lists. You know your body, know it's strengths so let that knowledge lead the way. There are so many trends that if something doesn't grab you, there will be many other options. After all, feeling good in what you wear means you feel more powerful and strong and able to tackle your daily routine, seamlessly without agonizing about your fashion choice. Here are a few to get excited about:

Image

These are fabulous and THEY ARE HERE, in store and online! You have got to try these. They truly look like real, fine leather but they're vegan as they say. Grab a girlfriend, go into a Plum store and try these on...they are so sexy looking!

Cream Carla coated jeans (black) $149

Image

Two trends in one...the floral/botanical print and the bomber jacket turns a boys style into something pretty! The fact that it's floral, creates more opportunity for occasions and places to wear. Not just for the weekend with jeans. Try it with a colour coordinated poncho, great with a dress, or wide leg pants.

Be Young Desta floral bomber jacket (black/red) $109

Ruffles and frills.  While they are super cute and feminine, they may not be for everyone, OR you merely have to find a way to wear it that it works for your body type. Head into a Plum location and Plum staff will help turn your obsession with a current trend into something you will want to wear, not just this season.

Wasabi bell sleeve mini dress (black or hunter green) $79

Cream ruffle shell top (cream) $89

Soya concept Swiss dot blouse (off white) $69

Image

My favourite thing about colour block is, not having to worry about matching patterns; you can wear various colours either together or monochrome beneath. Again, in store staff can help you find other great coordinates.

Point Zero colour block open cardigan (wine) $86

Image

Plaid is a really fun pattern to play with. Try it with plain white stripes, polka dots, above worn with jeans or wrap a bright red scarf at the neck. Tuck it into a skirt or jeans, or button it up and add a funky necklace.

Sneak Peak blue plaid shirt (blue/white) $79

A lot of trends seem to be set by the elite who are chauffeured around and thus can wear 5 inch heels and discard what they wore yesterday....however, we live in the real world so.... some basic advice? Teeth and good posture are always in style so remember to brush and stand up straight!

DO NOT MISS PLUM'S IN STORE - 4 DAY SALE...THURSDAY NOVEMBER 24 to SUNDAY NOVEMBER 27.

Every season is there not one thing you feel is a 'must have'? A seasonal colour, a texture, a trend?  Some styles come and go and yet others we think will fade from everyone's interest, yet live on. Regardless...this season, what are your top 5? With the upcoming sales (hey they named a day after my favourite colour), maybe you can find yours on sale! I thought it would be fun to poll Plum's head office staff and find out their top 5:

Image

Lily (Production Manager) said...one of her top choices this season was flowey shawls...I think this one is awesome. I love the yummy, warm colour inviting coziness....I have enough of these to cover my entire house and still tempted by more. Beautiful, warm, great for layering and easy to style!

KW colour block kimono (beige, black or red) $65

Image

Our esteemed designer Claudia chose embroidery and velvet as one of her top two style choices. You can pick out my wardrobe any time Claudia! I love the eastern influence of this gorgeous, open front Kimono. This is very easy to dress up or down.

Wander open front Kimono (black) $119

Image

Sarah (Production Assistant) chose this fantastic cocoon dress and loved it so much was tempted by two colours. I love the exaggerated border, exposed zipper and pockets! Great neckline for featuring your favourite necklace.

Simone cocoon dress with 3/4 sleeve (black, plum, wine) $129 now $98 (in store, 4 day price $64.50)

Image

Chery (Warehouse Manager) chose the Kersh crew neck sweater as one of her selections. Great choice! The crew neck pullover goes nearly everywhere. Wear with a pencil skirt or trousers for career look; then change shoes and add a statement necklace for a more evening activity. Comes in six divine fall colours.

Kersh crew neck sweater (6 colours) $59 now $45

Image

Rhena (Inventory Manager) wisely chose over the knee boots, in case Santa is listening. This is what I think would look fabulous with those boots; this scrumptious sweater dress. If it needs a little extra, add a wide belt or an eclectic mix of necklaces or big bold earrings!

Press turtleneck sweater dress (charcoal mix) $95 now $79 (in store 4 day promo price $59.25)

If you're a person who tends to be driven by lists then you're likely familiar with grocery, Santa, laundry and maybe even no fly lists (let's hope not the latter). Regardless, make sure to have your 'SALE' list; be ready with good shoes and great coffee. And let's keep it in Canada! :)

popularity contest

Are you popular? Do you really care? Does liking something that's popular, make us popular? Sometimes we like to publicly admit (hello Facebook) we like 'something' that's trendy, and sometimes we wouldn't admit we're fond of the likes of Celine Dion because we'd feel like the this would be as popular as a course on underwater basket weaving!  While dressing as an individual can make you 'unique' we can't help but be intrigued by what's 'popular'...sometimes, there really is a reason why something has taken off. Do you follow the crowd, check out what are the TOP SELLERS when purchasing, or create your own style? Following is not only ok but clearly encouraged, after all Pinterest has created a function for that.

On that note, lets investigate just some of what's popular at Plum....(note that all of these items, are top sellers and on sale, thus availability is limited). This is the BIG MARKDOWN of the season, do not miss out!

Image

This is one of Plum's top sellers and I can see why. A great tunic, wonderful soft muted colours, sleeveless (sleeves are a bad word right now!), and not too revealing. Very comfortable, yet also so pretty. (ps, this is nearly sold out).

Plum sleeveless button front tunic $79 now $55

Image

Yet another one in very high demand at Plum. Everyone loves this one. It's flattering, features a really beautiful cross over front which looks so divine with necklaces, comes in a scrumptious variety of colours and of course, sleeveless (sleeves are so February).

Plum sleeveless crossover top (8 colours) $42 now $32

Image

Probably not a lot needs to be said about shorts in this weather, they're short, enough said. Well, in fact these, I can see, are popular because they appear to be a great fit, well made (see the triple top stitching), rivets and rear pockets, and side button to adjust the length slightly to your liking. They would do well for a camping trip, biking trip or shopping trips (shopping the sales is exhausting work)!

Point Zero herringbone stretch short (black, marine, neutral and olive) $54 now $35

Image

Yet another one nearly sold out. I totally understand why this is hot. Great way to show of those fabulous legs. HOWEVER, if you're a tiny bit shy, try wearing bicycle shorts (with lace trim) in a complimentary colour. Great peek a boo back cut out feature with cap sleeves.

Simone t-shirt dress with open back (black/off white or blue/heather grey) $69 now $25

How to figure out what's popular in fashion...why are Don Cherry's suit jackets (for instance) not more popular... possibly because they have a tendency to scare children or look like Gramma's upholstery...Maybe Don should stick to hockey commentary!
