Beyond the blues

Jean jackets. We don't mind sitting on them, throwing them on the ground, or stepping on them...generally treating them with the basic disrespect shown to dishcloths...but try parting with them.  Not so easy because we love our jean jackets. They're a wardrobe staple and have been since the early 60's. Marilyn Monroe in 'The Misfits' made it fashionable for women to wear them and we've just carried on loving them since. We wear them with shorts, with skirts, pants, jeans, feminine dresses and heels and dress them up with fancy pins. I will never part with mine, but I'm incessantly looking for a new one.

Thank you to Plum for feeding into our obsession with this 5 day sale.

Until Monday, grab a bit of cool for $ 79 - 3 styles.

Image

Just a great basic look.  A simple dress and a a jean jacket. Maybe add a scarf if need be, but really, the jean jacket can complete almost every weekend look.

Image

Such a perfect topper for this time of year, adds a bit of coverage and a lot of cool to your look. Push up your sleeves and show off those bracelets.

Image

Perhaps the only garment where, if we spill coffee on them, we don't cringe....'adds to the character' we think. Like wrinkles!

Image

I love this look. Worn with shorts, paired with a casual shirt and a simple necklace. Jean jackets do layering very well. They work just as well with a pull on pencil skirt. Takes away the 'flight attendant' look and gives a less formal feel.

Image

Wearing a jean jacket with a dress is as common a pairing as pineapple on pizza....we're not sure why but they just go together.

If you're looking to upgrade or just simply wanting to add to your collection, now is a great time to invest in in a jean jacket. The workhorse of your wardrobe. Plum has a fantastic sale. Jean jackets, 3 styles $ 79 through to Monday. In store only.

Needless to say Mom's job does not end at 5:00pm....try 5:00am, or 3:00am...whenever needed. A seemingly endless job with no salary (preschoolers make more with their weekly allowance). However then of course, there is the 'outside' job that pays the bills, where an entirely different wardrobe is usually required. The workplace of today is far more transverse than in days past and what was once not appropriate (ie: wearing jeans) has all but changed with sometimes unspoken or unwritten requirements. Then to complicate things, along comes summer and we feel compelled to wear our sandals and tank tops....what are the options? What is acceptable, comfortable...YOU!

Lets have a view at some of Plum's great suggestions for the 'out of the home office' choices:

Image

Wanted: A dress that can be put to work, or taken out for drinks later....position filled. This dress easily works for multiple occasions and presents a very polished look.  Perhaps the office air conditioner is unpredictable or you're on the road at different locations, easily add a jacket or a cardigan to accommodate various environments.

Simone v-neck flared with pockets (white/grey or white/navy) $129

Image

Many work environments now accommodate jeans (or jean day).  However, keeping them on the 'neat' side is usually an unspoken rule or offsetting their worn look with a very sleek contrasting jacket and heels. can make it work.  Accessories possibly should be kept to a minimum unless you're working in a creative field. Don't we all wish our office was out in the sunshine! The scarf adds a bit of individuality without being too distracting. And the linen jacket is such a go to piece for this time of year.

Tobias buttonless linen jacket (black, mustard, white) $179

Image

Perhaps your work place is of the traditional nature. In which case, you feel the need to invest in the ubiquitous trouser. Perfect with a blouse or simple button top and flats or possibly slingbacks.

Tobias slash pocket pant (beige, black or grey) $95

Image

Here is yet another work appropriate dress featuring a lovely, abstract light print. Also great for the Mother's day brunch...you are taking Mom out, aren't you? No pressure! ;)

Numph garland zigzag dress (lavender fog) $145

ImageImage

Not to be outdone by the ubiquitous pant, is the knee length, peg skirt. The skirt is yoga (which is synonymous with comfort). However Plum has other skirt options, pull-on is another great option for ease and comfort, helping retain the feminine feel if this is your goal, along with providing for a day of movement. Paired with this lovely lace blouse, keeps things light and in keeping with the season.

Yoga pegged skirt (rinse indigo) $84

H&D Lace blouse (black or white) $75

Whatever your workplace (home, office or even your car)...finding the right combination of appropriate work wear is important for being able to put your best foot forward and feel comfortable with who you are and where you are. But lets not forget to call Mom to thank her for helping you get where you are, because no doubt she played an important part.

While quantities last, Plum has some of it's best, and most popular Yoga jeans styles on sale at $ 79 and $ 89. So, unless you have a uniquely special way of making even 'Mom' jeans look great, it might be time for a pair of Yoga jeans. Mom or not, we all want comfort AND style! Put them on, don't give them a second thought, this is likely what 'Second' was thinking when they created these divine jeans. Make them comfortable, make them stylish, make them in Canada. Looks like they hit all important points.

Plum's owners took a little trip to Quebec where Yoga's are made, to have a look for themselves. This is the busy Canadian factory where these jeans are produced.

You don't need to be a prima ballerina to test these out. Any regular day will do! Made from only premium denim and designed specifically so they do not gape at the waist. Bend over, dance, have a nap, these will not fail you in any of your activities. Mainly helping you reach your goal of looking super sexy!

ImageImage

Boot cuts are such a great option to the ever present skinny.  Contrast them with a lovely lace, cut out top. Look for a cut out leather bootie or open toe wedge or espadrille's to tie the two together. Yoga jeans are made with extra dye to produce a more rich, unique look so remember to wash them before wearing them.

Yoga bootcut highrise rinse indigo jean now $79

Grifflin shell lace top $49

ImageImage

Generally speaking, black jeans will go with anything....just experiment, after all, it's not dental surgery.  T shirts are frequently the obvious and easy choice. (you will be beautiful, and not so much broke, as the jeans are on sale). Brains and beauty, hard to beat that combination.

Yoga highrise skinny jeans $79

Michelle 'broke but beautiful' t shirt $49

Image

There are far more styles than shown here. Without a doubt you'll find yourself in a pair that will blow your mind.

Yoga jeans are made right here in Canada, from premium denim. In some cases, the denim finish is hand worked to give it the authentic, lived in look. Truly a company that cares as much about quality as you do.

Not a day goes by that a new problem doesn't present itself, would you agree? One issue solved...new one crops up.  Fashion and style, need not be one of them. It should be fresh, thrilling and create happiness...like living in Vancouver does ;) Inspiring creativity, and ease...that's also Plum. Lets take a peak at some ensembles that create a feeling of uncomplicated fun.

Image

Is it cruel to post photos of shorts while the rest of the country is still digging out of mounds of snow? I digress.  In any case, who says shorts should only be worn with t shirts...the above photo proves otherwise. The sleeveless blouse works as a nice balance against the rugged nature of the shorts; yet can also easily compliment a skirt or trousers. Very versatile wardrobe addition.

Plum double layer tank (champagne, coral or fuchsia) $69

Image

Another fresh, easy outfit that requires very little effort. Add or subtract accessories or sweaters/shawls as needed, however, comfort and style fully come together here. Ultimately you've made a great investment when what you've chosen will work in various ways, such is the case with this top.

THML embroidered blouse (black or white) $75

Image

You really don't need to know about everyone else's personal style, just your own! And if dresses are part of that style, this one will rarely see the inside of your closet. Simple stripes, with an unexpected crest type embroidery. Again, add accessories or not, such an easy choice.

THML stripe embroidered tank dress (black/white or blue/white) $89

Image

These pants are 'dare I say'...fun and create a lighthearted look. Again, another very functional wardrobe addition. Change the self belt to one of your own  or wear with a longer style t shirt and add a belt.  Espadrilles, gladiators or as above, beautiful leather flats, make it complete.

THML drapy pant (black) $75

Ultimately, fashion can be a real elixir to life's challenges in a small way and just remember...'happy girls are the prettiest' Audrey Hepburn

Party Perfect

Planning early for the perfect outfit for a garden party or wedding? You may not be the center of attention, but you probably want to be noticed. As a guest at one of these lovely affairs, it still requires a bit of thought into what is appropriate. Will this be a rather formal, large affair, or an intimate, subdued event? Be grateful you're not the bride, with all the planning involved. Plum can't likely assist the bride with the dress for her 'main event' but can definitely help you. Plum is abundant with options, below are just a few tantalizing ideas:

ImageImage

This email featured dress is such beautiful quality, comprised of stretch, cotton jacquard and fully lined. Defined by the stunning details, front and back, it leaves you wanting nothing more than a seat next to a handsome bachelor.

Simone open back dress with pleated skirt and pockets (coral, royal) $139

Image

A pencil skirt is a perfectly acceptable choice of attire for a wedding; simply draw in one of the colours and match your shoes to it. Add either a simple necklace or something  more dramatic that might make the bride miss a step walking down the aisle. Add or subtract a cardigan or shawl, a clutch (as above) and perhaps a selection of bracelets. Comfortable, yet still elegant and versatile.

Plum pencil skirt with hidden elastic (coral, navy, royal) $69

Image

Orange is a powerful colour. Some believe it gives off a sense of optimism and social interaction. And how perfect for a social event. Beautiful a-line, stretch, lined lace.

Simone cap sleeve dress with back gathers (coral, jade) $110

Image

Lace and weddings go together like brides and tantrums. The above Simone dress is possibly the most ubiquitous dress for a wedding guest. Maybe even the Mother of the Bride? Gorgeous lace covers a cream coloured lining. Beautiful v-neck front and back.

Simone lace v-neck flared dress (black, off-white) $139

Image

This beautiful blouse is it's own garden party...with lush detailed images of efflorescence. Pair this with a light shawl, a knee length skirt and simple pumps or peep toe shoes or booties and maybe top it off with a pair of 'exclusive to Plum' Midnight Cactus, hand made earrings (in store only).

Yumi botanical floral top (off white) $99

Plum has so many options available for the impending seasonal events, you can save your lamenting for the brides choice of everlasting love.
