first impressions last forever...
Are you popular? Do you really care? Does liking something that's popular, make us popular? Sometimes we like to publicly admit (hello Facebook) we like 'something' that's trendy, and sometimes we wouldn't admit we're fond of the likes of Celine Dion because we'd feel like the this would be as popular as a course on underwater basket weaving! While dressing as an individual can make you 'unique' we can't help but be intrigued by what's 'popular'...sometimes, there really is a reason why something has taken off. Do you follow the crowd, check out what are the TOP SELLERS when purchasing, or create your own style? Following is not only ok but clearly encouraged, after all Pinterest has created a function for that.
On that note, lets investigate just some of what's popular at Plum....(note that all of these items, are top sellers and on sale, thus availability is limited). This is the BIG MARKDOWN of the season, do not miss out!
This is one of Plum's top sellers and I can see why. A great tunic, wonderful soft muted colours, sleeveless (sleeves are a bad word right now!), and not too revealing. Very comfortable, yet also so pretty. (ps, this is nearly sold out).
Plum sleeveless button front tunic $79 now $55
Yet another one in very high demand at Plum. Everyone loves this one. It's flattering, features a really beautiful cross over front which looks so divine with necklaces, comes in a scrumptious variety of colours and of course, sleeveless (sleeves are so February).
Plum sleeveless crossover top (8 colours) $42 now $32
Probably not a lot needs to be said about shorts in this weather, they're short, enough said. Well, in fact these, I can see, are popular because they appear to be a great fit, well made (see the triple top stitching), rivets and rear pockets, and side button to adjust the length slightly to your liking. They would do well for a camping trip, biking trip or shopping trips (shopping the sales is exhausting work)!
Point Zero herringbone stretch short (black, marine, neutral and olive) $54 now $35
Yet another one nearly sold out. I totally understand why this is hot. Great way to show of those fabulous legs. HOWEVER, if you're a tiny bit shy, try wearing bicycle shorts (with lace trim) in a complimentary colour. Great peek a boo back cut out feature with cap sleeves.
Simone t-shirt dress with open back (black/off white or blue/heather grey) $69 now $25

Does wearing a dress define you 'as a woman'? Does it mean anything at all, in our ultra 'anything goes' society? What does it mean to you? Whether you're a committed dress wearer or not, we can't help but feel a tiny bit sorry for men on an ultra hot day, that they cannot throw on a dress! There is no prohibition rule, however unless feeling like a street sign all day is compelling...this is probably why most don't. Just a guess! Plum has plenty of dress options, for the hot days here and ahead.
Take a peak:
This delightful little dress really can't help but make you happy. It's just lush with fresh, mesmerizing patterns and a multitude of colours. Sweet, easy v-neck, with gathered, empire waist and pockets. It just screams comfort and fun. And once again, the designer does not disappoint with a lovely, low back detail.
Simone sun dress with back gathers and pockets in 4 lovely prints $ 110 now $ 88
I don't think anything says 'summer' more than the strapless dress (maybe a sun hat)...top shirring makes for great comfort and a sweeping maxi length. A tie in the middle can be tied as a bow or as a halter around the neck. For a bit more coverage, can be worn with a shrug or short kimono if a little more coverage is needed (or to conceal bra straps). Either way, a great pick!
Alythea bandeau dress (navy/green) $ 85
Here's a dress that has somewhat of a goddess like feel to it. Divinely draped, giving it an elegant edge despite it's knit fabrication. Definitely a high fashion look, yet has not lost it's comfort value.
Pursue drape dress (black/heather grey) $89 now $69
Another fantastic dress where colour and pattern pack a huge punch. Comprised of a butter soft fabric combination of rayon/spandex with side slit. Do not be intimidated by the deep slit at the back. So easy to pick out a colour from the dress and find a cami if not wearing a bra is out of the question. Great for dressing up or down; and my feeling is the footwear choice creates the conversion.
Cherish sheath dress (multi or navy) $89
So, after exploring a multitude of dress style variations, what's the verdict? Can a dress define you as a woman? I think not! Do not let the dress define you...YOU define the dress...make it your own (or wear shorts ;) ).

Suddenly a good friend has tickets to a music festival. They're wonderful but they can be long days outdoors. Be it Cavendish Music Festival in beautiful P.E.I. or Edmonton or Vancouver's Jazz Festival's, you could encounter wall to wall sunshine....or possibly a buffet of unexpected weather. Let's assume it will be fabulous weather. Why not! However, what should or could you wear?
Let's see what Plum has to suggest:
Dresses are as synonymous with festivals as Neil Young. Be it a festival or beach BBQ you'll be attending, think bright and comfortable, this dress has both these qualities. Vibrant, feather print, long back dip hem and braided skinny straps, keep it simple yet fun and bright to match your personality. Be prepared with appropriate footwear, festival grounds can be rather unpredictable.
Simone mid length dress with braided strap detail (royal or purple print) $110
Maybe dresses are not your thing....not a problem, shorts are another 'go to' co-ordinate for the summer months. Pair them (of course) with t shirts or sleeveless blouses, whatever they're married with, they are sure to be a good wardrobe investment (don't forget the bug spray).
Dish chino short (evergreen) $79
This has summer written all over it. (Yes I realize they're flowers). Light weight, skinny straps and free flowing create a really wonderful seasonal feeling. Shawls or large scarves (tied in different ways) are great for a bit of extra coverage. As you can see, looks great with jeans, but can easily look great with a pencil skirt and cardigan.
Plum tank with shirring detail (navy, orange or turquoise prints) $49
And on that note, if converting a scarf does not suit you, how about a lovely, light, ethereal piece that looks like it was dreamt up by angels. So incredibly flowey and light, won't add bulk to your wardrobe, just a light bit of coverage and funk! A very pretty and versatile trend.
Cecico kimono georgette top (blush or mint) $69
So, where ever you're headed this summer...Jazz Festival, Folk Festival or just your folk's place for a BBQ, be ready with a wardrobe that reflects the summer we expect. Fun and beautiful.

Raise your hand if you have a big sister. I don't have enough hands, because I'm blessed with 3 big sisters. Yes you can count your best friend who you feel is like a big sister. But maybe you don't have a big sister and always wished you had one. Someone to always confide in, bounce things off of and look up to. Someone who will support but not criticize you, no matter how silly you feel your ideas might be.
Some young girls are less fortunate, their parents (or parent), are stretched to the limit. Not enough time or resources to provide all of this. Here's your opportunity to help a little sister get her big sister. During the month of May Plum collects donations by asking our customers to contribute $2 to help match 2 little Sisters with their big sisters. From now until May 31, 2015, Plum will be matching donations up to $25, and, you get a chance to win a $350 Plum Gift Certificate!
These big sisters play such an important role in the lives of these growing young girls. By providing much needed support and encouragement, which in turn can boost a young girls growing self esteem. With healthy self esteem, we know so much can be accomplished.

BIG SISTERS CAMPAIGN NOW ON. You could win a gift certificate worth $350.
What's the best thing about shopping locally? Oh to narrow it down to one thing! Goods are made by people who work here, goods don't go into shipping containers and use fewer shipping companies (if any), employs your neighbour, no import fees...need I go on? I bet you knew all that. But did you know that most of what non profits receive are from local retailers. We can't control a lot of our surroundings but it's one of the few things we can have a say in. We can play a big part in the success of our local business'.
One other important fact: local businesses (like Plum) often carry goods exclusive to them, not found at multiple chain retailers. Like they're designing just for you.
A simply stunning little dress with great details such as, bold colour, rayon blend (which means it hangs so nicely),flattering shape, lined and with a delightful little cut out in the back...so fresh, it's like it grew in your garden. I can think of 15 different ways to work this dress. With a bold statement necklace (or a simple locket), pumps or funky heels, a scarf, a jacket or a shawl, or the 'jean jacket'...a multitude of different looks possible!
Simone shift dress with back cutout (fuchsia and scuba blue) $129
This is another fresh easy look. The graphic patterns, are like accessories on their own. So many great colours to incorporate into your wardrobe. I love also how the designer never forgets the back details. Because when you walk away, you want to be remembered! ;)
Plum sleeveless blouse with faux collar (black, black/orange, green, orange and royal prints) $59
Here's a trend you may want to jump in on. The jogger, done so well here by Plum. A great poly/spandex mix; a fabric mix that flows so nicely together (not to mention travels well). This textured fabric is still light enough for the season. And note how they're worn with pumps, which gives them a decidedly edgier look or don't resist your compulsion to wear them with your flats or flip flops. Just depends on the look you want to create.
Plum jogger with drawstring waistband (olive or black) $79
Yet another very efficient wardrobe addition. Long enough to possibly serve as a dress with capri tights one day, crop pants another day, add a double wrap belt or take it to a pool party and use as a light coverup. Many very cool options.
Plum sleeveless tunic shirt (black, black/off white, royal) $85
So many great reasons to shop locally, one of which is, so you can save your money for your travels, not your goods to travel.
