In the old old old days...people wore destroyed denim because, well...they were poor! Could not afford new ones...now it's 'pre worn out' for you (how nice). The ripped and destroyed trend of denim began in the 80's with the 'hair' bands. It then moved into the 90's where grunge bands took over the style, adding to it unkept hair and a loose, easy style (a la; Curt Cobain). Somewhere beyond the 90's, it became fully mainstream, and everyday, to the point where there were more rips and skin, than actual denim. Me thinks this extreme version of the trend can REST IN PEACE! Will destroyed denim ever die completely though? A Donald Trump presidency versus aged or weathered denim... I really have my doubts as to which will move on sooner. Let's make denim great again...wait, was it ever not great!? ;)

ImageImage

Perhaps black denim gives your look a bit more polish...it can also add some edge, it can go either way, depending on the co-ordinates chosen. Perhaps your heart belongs to coffee....then... espresso your love for the deep dark brew with this graphic t! (I know, groan!)

Mavi Kendra straight leg jean (black) $98

Kaffe heart t shirt with writing (white) $42

ImageImage

The above jeans, just enough wear so they look like you've worn them for some time, but you can make your own holes. And if you are on the hunt for a new blazer, plaid or check is 'IT' this season. I bought this jacket and wore it on the weekend and despite the pattern, I had no issues with pairing it with my graphic t's. Made for a great, casual weekend look.

Mavi Alissa high rise super skinny (mid indigo) $118

Kaffe checked blazer (black/grey/red) $139

ImageImage

Another denim trend not to be passed up is the frayed hem denim. The pizzazz of this style is so apparent. it's fun, it's easy, it's charming (who cares if the hem is straight, the more jagged the better). Wear them with a Moto jacket and Cuban heels or chunky Mary Jane's and a long blazer. Or as above casually with converse. And a jacket/coat like this, helps welcome the weather change.

Mavi Alissa high rise super skinny fringe ankle (dark brushed supersoft) $128

Daisy long zip coat (black or olive) $110

ImageImage

The ideal compliment to a loose fitting denim bottom is a fitted top, be it a tank or as above the mock neck top, thus avoiding an 'over' fabricing (is that a word) of your body!

Mavi Ada boyfriend jean (smoke vintage) $118

Daisy mock neck 3/4 sleeve top (black, burgundy, light rust or olive) $35

Image

And veering away slightly from skinny and relaxed is straight leg. Nice with (as above) sky high heels or high heeled boots as they will slide nicely over a boot. Excellent for a less strict office environment.

Yoga Dominique straight leg jean (medium indigo blue) $130

The term 'Flawsome' I believe was coined by someone who made her mark on the fashion world by showcasing her 'so called' flaws as apposed to camouflaging them, being a woman of colour and plenty of shape - Tyra Banks! A substantial challenge, in an industry where her attributes would not be so readily embraced. Therefore...Flawsome (adj): something awesome because of it's flaws...pretty much all of us, wouldn't you say?

Currently, unless your dress standards are set by the royal family, tasteless seems to have a far wider set of brackets than in the days of 'long haired freaky people...need not apply' (Five Man Electric Band). What about wearing overalls to a wedding?...erm, wait what if the venue is a pasture OR Goth wear to a funeral...black is still fairly standard at funerals and I doubt the dearly departed will care! Seems it's not so much a math equation as an emotional or social one. Just be grateful to not be Kanye West who, while attending a wedding recently, had his slides ridiculed by the www for being too small. 'It's the Japanese way' said Yeezy. Sure Kanye, I guess my leggings are worn the 'gymnastics' way then! So, on that note, jeans, we now can find in every possible venue, event and scenario, accepted almost everywhere. Dress them up, down or just get in them! Let's have a look at some new jeans and some possible ways to give them your tasteful touch!

Thinking I was sufficiently stocked with my jeans, ready for fall, I put them on...or rather tried to. -REASON # 7 FOR BUYING NEW JEANS...'my old ones shrank' (right!)...I had to do a try on of these! They are simply divine!  So, comfortable they feel like a hug! Jeans should do that and keep the jiggle at bay!  I adore this sweet jacket with its shawl collar, below pocket pleats and the feminine back tie. Also comes in black, my favourite funeral colour! (bloggers favourite pairing this season so far)!

Yoga Dominique straight leg jeans $130

Cream blazer (black or brick red) $149

ImageImage

Something about these sky high heels and the worn, washed black...just so sexy looking. Add to it, a long cardigan or this fabulous lace kimono maybe some fabulous jewelry, perhaps do your hair in a messy bun and voila! A stunning look!

Mavi high rise skinny jeans (dark grey vintage) $118

Kaffe lace kimono (vintage blue) $99

ImageImage

Long gone are the days where high rise meant, something worn by your Mom. Now, they are well constructed, perfectly fitting and always with comfort an important factor. A perfect pairing with this luscious open front sweater. Add a fabulous scarf to the coupling and you have a comfortable, yet outstanding look.

Yoga high rise super skinny stretch $130

B Young colour blocked cardigan (burgundy multi) $119

ImageImage

What do you not need a boyfriend for? Boyfriend jeans! Looking relaxed and feeling ultra comfortable and easy! However, to shake things up a bit if you're doing a Friday night cocktail party or cozy local concert, add a sophisticated top, a jacket, eye catching earrings and some bold cut out booties. A funky look is born.

Mavi Ada boyfriend jeans (smoke vintage) $118

Cream shell top (smoke rose) $79

So, really...have we seen the death of tasteless? Probably not any time soon, but I also don't believe we can easily bullet list it because, needless to say, what's tasteless to one person is wedding apparel to the next;) So what really is considered tasteless? WATER!! Water is tasteless...zero taste!

DREAMERS UNITE....WE HAVE THE SWEATER for you~~~lush, dreamy and on special~~~ until Monday Sept 3 ~ eight colours ~ $ 59 ~ instore and webstore

We likely all have 'something' we like to cover up...an old scar from your 20's, best not talked about because, you know...that was an 'experimental' period! ;) Or maybe the first marriage...perhaps you won't talk about that, you were young, it was the 80's, enough said.  How about grey hair? Actually times are trending more towards people proudly letting it grow and show, instead of investing in root cover up products. What a relief.  I love it when fashion trends follow our unique or natural qualities. But what goes with this pigment challenged hair colour? Come with me...let's have a look.

Image

Image      Image      Image     Image      Image      Image     Image

This weeks featured sweater is back by popular demand in eight colours. Whether you have grey hair, blonde...or follically challenged...there is bound to be a colour to suit your complexion or hair colour. This will definitely be a go to sweater for the season. Get it while it's on special and colours are still available. (scarf sold separately)

Dreamers V NECK sweater in 8 colours (black, olive, denim, heather coral, heather grey, heather plum, mocha and raisin) - was $69 UNTIL MONDAY $59

Image

The rules of dress and colour typically state that grey hair is better with bold jewel tones. However, we're not talking city bylaws here, we're talking fashion guidelines...so if you are compelled by muted tones go for it. After all, some of THE BEST things come from rule breakers! But this is a fabulous little knit dress with stretch lining! Break the rules with desert!

Kaffe dress (sundried tomato) $99

Image

And yet another rich hue to try is this t shirt above, especially if you tend to be drawn to the blues or greens. Note it's ubiquitous cut which allows it to compliment nearly all your coordinates.

B Young melange cap sleeve t shirt (black, burgundy or green) $32

WORN WITH...Soya concept glen plaid skirt (burgundy/off white) $75

ImageImage

ImageImage

The other way is to literally indulge in the colour completely which helps accentuate it. Above are four diverse options, depending of course on the occasion. The dress draws out some other beautiful tones and neutrals as well, the coat adds coverage but with a bit of style...over jeans, dresses or skirts...wear it open or use the wrap belt. Add a bold scarf or bold lipstick if you wish to break it up.

Cream printed knit dress (forest multi) $109

Cream maxi coat (grey melange) $169

Motion multi yarn sweater (black/grey) $86

Maronie camo drop shoulder sweatshirt (grey camouflage) $55

Lately I've seen many who are totally rockin' their natural pigment free manes of various ages! Although, grey, white or silver hair stems from our eventual lack of ability to generate melanin which are contained in pigment cells....OR our lack of ability to tolerate nonsense or general buffoonery! (a natural childish quality). I must still have some tolerance left in me, as I don't seem to have sprouted much...sadly!

Boho vibes

NOTE: some items that are featured here are part of the sale, and some are new arrivals. Prices are noted or check in store for details.

One more month of official summer remains, then back to it...school, work or, as in my case...back to…um, what I’m doing now (lol).  In any case BOHO, technically speaking is short for bohemian homeless originating in the 19th century, meant to describe the unconventional lifestyle of journalists, writers and artists. The style is characterized by large floppy hats, long flowey skirts and Joni Mitchell songs. A look typically representing, free thinking, creativeness and long, lazy days of summer. In 30 days, fall will abruptly attempt to put an end to all the free thinking fun...but for now, we have a reason to look like we haven’t a care in the world.

Image

I think lace, in particular, can be viewed as a central part of bohemian style. Presenting an image of light, easy, fresh and vintage. The above dress can be just as comfortable at an evening out, as at the beach. As I often note, the footwear and accessories most often punctuates the look.

En Creme sundress with tassel straps (red/white) was $89 is now $69

Image

One of my favourite features of this dress, aside from the open weave linen and pockets, is the shoulder ties, which offers the ability to slightly adjust the length. Aside from the every day, wear-for-tasking/lack-of-conformity style, I can see this worn with a shawl, and a long pendant.

Catwalk linen jumper dress (black, denim blue, pink or white) $110

Image

Aside from the sweet, floral pattern, what’s lovely about this dress is the length, not too long... not too short...just right Goldilocks! If the neckline looks slightly too plunging for where you’re going, easily add a lace tank and if your air conditioned office is where you’re headed, add a jacket.

Hem & Thread spaghetti strap dress (navy/orange) was $85 is now $65

Image

And of course embroidery is yet another common theme. The kimono featured here is bound to be another seasonal favourite for its very light texture.

Embroidered kimono (white) $79

There is definitely a way to add elements of the boho style to your outfit without being head to toe 70’s. A little bit of lace, a hat, or an embroidered jacket.  I once went all out on Halloween as a hippy. I could very easily see from the passersby on the street, it was rather unclear if this was my usual style.  Lesson I learned? You can take the girl out of the 70’s but it’s best to leave that entire 10 years where it was, maybe grab a piece or two, but it’s in the past for a reason!

Peace...

repeat after me

Indulge me while I talk about Kimonos....again. Some things are just worth repeating. Like a great vacation spot, a fabulous selfie (ask Kim K), a great kiss or another piece of cake! Kimonos...they're simply one of the best garments of the moment and the buyer seems to have her finger on the fashion pulse (Plum just received some new styles)! Speaking of pulses...some days, I can barely find mine with four cups of coffee and a shower...therefore, the simpler the better. And Kimonos give you a chance to just grab and go, like the breakfast bar of your wardrobe...and still look like two millions bucks (inflation).

Image

Time to explore your inner Hippie-boho-festival-gaia...or cool chick..whichever emerges! I love this one for it's sheer simplicity, yet at the same time, enough pattern to amuse and create interest and facilitates coordination without much challenge.

Kimono (border print in beige or grey) $59

Image

If I haven't mentioned this already, one great reason to adore the Kimono is, most are one-sized, therefore making it, all about finding a pattern/colour you like, as apposed to fit...easy peasy, go ahead and eat those cheesies. SO the opposite issue to buying a bathing suit *big sigh*. I'd previously stated many times, how great black and white is for the sake of co-ordination, and the above offers the same.  And if you're inclined to like a more complex look, why not belt it!

Kimono with front panel (black multi) $49

ImageImage

This blue kimono is just a breath of fresh air. So light, so exquisitely embroidered with tiny embellishments to catch the light. Fabulous as above with shorts or in keeping with the blue, vintage fringe edge jeans. Convert your look from a weekend, errand-running put together... to a casual dinner/drinks with friends occasion, with a simple change into heels, hair pulled up and some vintage look earrings.

Kimono - flower embroidered (blue) $79

Image

Can you picture yourself wearing this, strolling through your vineyard, leisurely harvesting luscious grapes? (It's ok to have fantasies that don't include chocolate)...The minute I see someone wearing yellow, it immediately evokes unrecognizable feelings of calm(lol). The bright yellow print is a great colour to explore as it has so many hue's it will perform well with.

Kimono -  floral (mustard print) $49

ImageImage

Image

This gorgeous kimono is awash with blossoms. To try... tie it in the front for something different. Pair with these light mustard linen pants, which also comes in a few more seasonal pigments. Maybe take the self belt, wear it as a hair band and put a chain belt through the loops instead. Don't have one? Use a long, strong link necklace. Fun to experiment!

Kimono - long floral (yellow or black) $79

Catwalk gathered waist with tie pant (beige, mustard or pink) $92

Image

Note the shorter length. Great for pairing with shorts, or a wide leg palazzo pant. Also, I could see this moving into early fall, stretching your wardrobe a bit into multiple seasons.

Kimono - floral (black) $59

If something is repeated, does it make a more profound impression, become more meaningful or important? Certainly not to my children! That being said, sometimes we need to say things to ourselves repeatedly for them to sink in...so repeat after me...'I deserve a new kimono....and that second piece of cake'!
