There are few feelings as frustrating as the one you get when, rifling through an entire closet full of clothes, you realize you don't have a single thing to wear. Typically (in accordance with Murphy's Law), this will occur on the morning when you're already running ten minutes late and simply do not have time to painstakingly coordinate an ensemble.
Stop the cycle of less-than-perfect outfits (you deserve better) by investing in at least one amazing printed Simone dress. For a go-to look, choosing a dress in lieu of separates makes sense because it eliminates the hassle of mixing and matching. Find one you feel great in and that's a ready-made outfit for those 'nothing to wear' days. I recommend opting for print - it adds instant visual interest, making you look far more put together than you might feel.
To complete your look, choose simple accessories that make a statement. Bangles are always a good choice, because you can add and subtract them to customize as necessary. Then add a pair of pumps or strappy sandals and voilà, you're ready to run out the door.

Now for some Plum news! It's that time again! May is Big Sisters month at Plum - every year, we host an in-store campaign to raise money for this fabulous organization. It's simple: you donate a toonie, you get a chance to win a shopping spree at Plum! Now that's a win-win-win situation.
With every new trend comes a number of people who assert confidently "Oh no, I can't wear that," without even having tried it on first! New styles can definitely be difficult to sport right off the runway, but so much of fashion's fun comes from experimentation. To get you started on tackling tough trends, today on the blog we're breaking down how to style pyjama pants.
Outfit details: Slouchy pants, in blue and green, $75, and denim vest, $108.
Printed pyjama pants work exceptionally well when anchored by a crisp, clean white tank or tee. Opt for a denim jacket or vest to pull it all together. Try print mixing and throw on a printed scarf in the same colour family as the pants, or trade in a thinly striped tank in lieu of plain white.
This look works best with a pair of strappy heels. They elevate the look from I-just-rolled-out-of-bed to I-just-strolled-off-the-catwalk. But if heels are not your friends, go for a feminine flat (pictured below) or a strappy sandal for a similar effect.
Outfit details: Slouchy pants, in blue and green, $75, studded denim jacket, $118, and low back tank, $32.
If you just aren't ready to step out in pyjama-style pants (yet! I will win you over one day), why not update your jean collection? From now until May 14th, buy a pair of black or blue jeans at Plum and we'll contribute $5 to the Cure Foundation to help fight breast cancer. Then, on May 14th, celebrate National Denim Day in your brand new jeans! Read all about it right here.
One of the greatest things about fashion is that it allows us to embody multiple personas - you can reinvent yourself as often as you like, often with a single garment. For example, the bohemian vibe has always appealed to me, and I love wearing boho pieces because it is a departure from my usual uniform (tending toward the preppy side of the style spectrum).
The bohemian look is one that's a little more carefree and a little more playful, and this season it's been given a chic reincarnation. Picture a flowing, boho-inspired dress like the above Simone number, balanced with a pair of sexy, modern heels and an of-the-moment 'do, like the high pony our model is sporting!
Show off your playful side by flaunting the new bohemian look this spring!

For most of us, buying an entirely new wardrobe every time a new season rolls around just isn't a viable option. How do you stay stylish and current without a complete overhaul? It isn't necessarily about spending more money, it's about taking a new approach to shopping. Shopping with purpose means making deliberate, conscious choices about the clothing you buy. Evaluate your needs (and wants!) at the beginning of each season, set a realistic budget, and then choose the items you want to welcome home to your wardrobe. This shopping strategy is the best way to take a tired wardrobe and bring it back to life!
To get the most bang+confidence+compliments for your buck, find items that take on a completely new look when paired differently - something that can be dressed up and dressed down. My double duty pick this season? The coloured blazer! Right on trend without being "trendy," surprisingly versatile, and a variation on office wear that is fun! What could be finer for spring?
Tobias fitted-jacket, fully lined (striped), in butter (shown) coral, fuscia and jade. $189 Designed and made in Vancouver. Plum skirt (2 prints) stretch lining $85 Striped purse (2 colourways, red-cream & blue cream) $59, Colour blocked purse $55 Mavi Boy Friend Jeans $108
What's your go-to shopping strategy? How are you planning to put it to work this spring?
Coloured denim (and cords and dress pants and every other conceivable kind of pants) were h-u-g-e this year. Which left me wondering, can we ever go back to wearing exclusively blue and black jeans? I mean, I guess we could, but why would we want to? Blue and black denim are the Little Black Dress of the pant world - they go with everything and we love them - an undeniable wardrobe staple. But we still need to mix it up with a little colour every now and then.
While coloured pants are certainly not going anywhere (look for stunning new colours this spring), the favourite new style on the block is printed pants. Floral, polka dot, geometric - whatever your pleasure, there is a print for you. Just follow these tricks, and wear with confidence!
Slim printed pants by Plum, $92. Mavi Denim shirt, $78. Kersh ribbed waist cardigan, $49.
If you're a print pro already, challenge yourself to wear these beauties with a printed blouse! The trick is to just keep the two prints in the same general colour family so that they're not competing with each other. A nice warm-toned leopard print would do very nicely with the floral glory pictured above, for example. Don't believe me? Check out this interpretation of the pattern mixing trend. It is bold and beautiful.
Now tell me what you think! Will you be a printed pant pioneer? How are you planning on styling them? As always, feel free to leave me a comment here, on our Facebook page, or tweet me @PlumClothing!
