Casual & Chic

One of the biggest style challenges we face as summer gets under way is retaining our sense of style despite the climbing temperatures. You want to look casual and feel comfortable, but you still want to dress in a way that represents you and your style. To get the best of both worlds, I recommend looking for lightweight knits in a fun or unique silhouette. Let the shape, colour, and print of the garment do the work  - you just have to throw it on and go!

Outfit Details: Short sleeve Simone dress with handkerchief hem, $75.

The asymmetrical hemline and the delicate stripe (so perfectly on trend) of this Simone dress turn a simple and casual knit dress into a truly stylish option for spring and summer.

If you find yourself drawn instead to the simple t-shirt and jeans combo, you can revitalize this look using the same principle. Instead of the classic plain tee, opt for one with unique detailing (I suggest a print or a modern cut, like in the picture below) for an automatic and chic update.

Event Season

Whether you're ready or not, event season is officially here (it is late April. Let that fact sink in for a minute). I'm talking bridal showers, patio parties, weddings, graduations, and oh so many more events that are likely to sneak up on you this spring. Rather than stress out about it, or worse, ignore it, until you wake up the morning of with not a thing to wear, choose dresses for an easy, stylish solution to your wardrobe woes!

Image

Simone shift dress, in black, blue, and red, $120

A fun shift dress in a bold colour is sure to turn heads. The beauty of this Simone number is its simplicity - you could wear it as is or it would make a great foundation for layering (try a pretty sheer blouse underneath, or a chambray shirt over top and knotted around your natural waist).

Simone sleeveless lace dress, in coral, royal, and jade, $129

Lace is a perennial favourite for spring dressing, and it works especially well in a waist-cinching style. Keep the look modern with some fun, colourful baubles (see above and below!). Go all out with bright shoes (above) or make the ensemble more streamlined with nude pumps (below).

How to Style Printed Pants

Category:

Image

Printed denim is the latest street fashion frontier that I can't wait to break through. What appeals to me most is that wearing these pants is A) just as easy as throwing on a favourite pair of jeans and B) instantly ups your style game. If the bold prints and colours have you hesitating, read on and see just how weareable (and versatile!) these styles can be.

Mavi Printed Denim, in Yellow, Teal, Red, and White/Pink, $98

If you're loving printed denim but feeling truly uninspired, don't forget that you can always wear them with a plain tee for effortless impact! Elevate this look with a printed scarf (same rules as above - choose a smaller pattern to complement the larger print of the jeans).

Is this a trend you'll be rocking this spring or summer? How are you planning on styling the look?

Trend Report: Linen

Our Tobias linen jackets are a perennial favourite among our customers and staffers alike. This style works as a fun alternative to a suit jacket and as a light outerwear layer, making it a perfect transitional piece for spring. Versatility, thy name is linen!

Previously, we've seen a lot of linen in neutral, earthy tones. But with bright hues dominating on the runways, in the streets, and let'sfaceit, in our hearts as we wait out winter, I can't keep ignoring my craving for colour.

And whoever said you had to choose between the fabric and the colour of your dreams anyway? Plum's latest linen jacket is now available in lush Mulberry, warm Mustard, and a classic neutral!

Image(Left) Tobias linen jacket, $189. Leaf print skirt, $75 (Right) Butterfly print scarf, $28. Boyfriend jeans, $108.

A tailored jacket like this one is an excellent wardrobe building block. This little number really ties outfits together. Pair it with a printed skirt for a unique and timeless wedding look. Swap the skirt for boyfriend jeans and run the Sunday errands in style and comfort.

How do you love rocking a fabulous spring jacket?

Dresses

Sometimes, two of the most beautiful concepts in fashion come together and it is glorious. Today, these are eyelet lace and a full-skirt dress. Cue heart palpitations.

We had gorgeous weekend weather in Vancouver (people were in their bathing suits in March, that happened). No more denial, it's officially time to break free of the winter pants prison and let your legs breathe in dresses! Bonus points for doing this look in all-over colour. I'm loving the shades of blues and greens together, it gives an already stunning dress just a liiiittle extra pop.

Necklace in Mint, $42, and purse in Blue, $39.

If you've already mastered the head-to-toe colour challenge, take it to the next level with head-to-toe pattern! Try a geometric print for a fresh and modern spring ensemble, and wear with confidence. A casual top knot and cat eye sunnies finish this look off purrrfectly.

Simone Cap Sleeve Dress, $125

With a weekend full of food, family, friends, and visiting (and chocolate!) fast approaching, the last thing you need to fret about is what-oh-what to wear. Opt for a spring dress in a fresh colour, like a robin's egg blue or a coral (you guys, I don't want to jinx this but...the Vancouver weather forecast for this weekend is 17 degrees and sunny. It is high time to break out the dresses!). Finish your look off with a pair of nude pumps - they'll give you legs for days and go with absolutely everything.

Simone Mixed Media Sheath Dress, $115

I especially love the shape of this Simone mixed media sheath. The long vertical lines will elongate your form, and the gentle curves of the dress are certain to flatter your own enviable curves.

If you prefer a little something in a fuller skirt, try this number. The classic shape paired with the on-trend bird print is a perfect match, and can easily be dressed up and down. We love it layered with a denim vest for a casual chic look!
