A Transition, A Transformation

February is a month of transitions. We're in that tricky middle ground where the weather is still cool but we're oh-so eager to warm up to spring styles and colours. But why choose between fashion and comfort when you can have both?

The perfect way to start integrating spring style into a winter wardrobe is by choosing transitional pieces, like a cardigan, in bright or pastel colours. By layering them now with a scarf and a jacket, you have a fashionable fix for your winter blues and the first building block of your spring wardrobe. While you may not be ready to 'spring' in yet, a colourful cardi is a great way to dip your toes in to spring style.

Enter the Kersh cardigans, in a classic ribbed waist button down (above right) and in a long, open style (above left) in six (six!) Plum exclusive colours, plus basic black and white. They're the perfect way to transition to springtime dressing!

And now, because we want to help you get a jump start on our favourite spring styles, we're having a promo on our Kersh cardis! Our short, ribbed waist style is on for $39 (reg. $49) and our long, open style is on for $45 (reg. 59). Consider it our Valentine's Gift to you!

If you've been a Plum shopper for longer than about five minutes, chances are you've heard us singing the praises of our beloved Yoga Jeans (we've even blogged about them!). Our love affair has been renewed for this season with a brand new style: ankle-length skinnies. Unleash your inner 1950s gamine (hello, Audrey Hepburn) and create a slim new silhouette in the latest look from Plum.

They're effortlessly stylish with a pair of sneakers or ballet flats for running errands, but team them up with statement jewellery and stilettoes to really vamp up your look for a night out. Best of all, you can even start wearing them right now - just tuck 'em into your favourite pair of boots!

We're so excited with this brand new style that we're putting our Yoga Jeans on s-a-l-e! For five days only, Thursday February 7th - Monday February 11th, all our YJ styles, including the brand new ankle-length skinnies, are on for just $95 (reg. $110-120). Whether you're already a convert, or if you've never tried Yoga Jeans before (they really are as comfortable as you've heard), now is the perfect time to make them yours!

Prints Charming

Image

Coloured denim (and cords and dress pants and every other conceivable kind of pants) were h-u-g-e this year. Which left me wondering, can we ever go back to wearing exclusively blue and black jeans? I mean, I guess we could, but why would we want to? Blue and black denim are the Little Black Dress of the pant world - they go with everything and we love them - an undeniable wardrobe staple.  But we still need to mix it up with a little colour every now and then.

While coloured pants are certainly not going anywhere (look for stunning new colours this spring), the favourite new style on the block is printed pants. Floral, polka dot, geometric - whatever your pleasure, there is a print for you. Just follow these tricks, and wear with confidence!

Slim printed pants by Plum, $92. Mavi Denim shirt, $78. Kersh ribbed waist cardigan, $49.

If you're a print pro already, challenge yourself to wear these beauties with a printed blouse! The trick is to just keep the two prints in the same general colour family so that they're not competing with each other. A nice warm-toned leopard print would do very nicely with the floral glory pictured above, for example. Don't believe me? Check out this interpretation of the pattern mixing trend. It is bold and beautiful.

Now tell me what you think! Will you be a printed pant pioneer? How are you planning on styling them? As always, feel free to leave me a comment here, on our Facebook page, or tweet me @PlumClothing!

An Ode to the Wrap Dress

Image

There are few articles of clothing magical enough to somehow flatter a variety of women, regardless of personal style, age or body type. The wrap dress, first pioneered by Diane von Furstenberg in the 1970s, is one of these beautiful rarities. It does exactly what the name promises, it delicately, and yet comfortingly, wraps the body in fabric - hinting at, rather than completely revealing, one's shape.

The feeling of wearing a well-fitting wrap dress cannot be overstated. It's here that the twin powers of femininity and moxie meet (and then maybe share a couple of cocktails). How does it accomplish this sartorial feat?

The wrap dress is such a perfect garment because it can do so much for so many different people. Anxious about your arms? This dress covers them. Want to define your waist? It can do that too. Need a dress that's office-appropriate, date-appropriate, lunch-with-mother-in-law-appropriate, flatters legs of all lengths, and will never go out of style? Look no further.

For all these glorious features, I have dedicated my first post of 2013 to one of my favourite articles of clothing - an instant closet staple - the wrap dress.

The No Guru Gift Guide for Men

It is officially the home stretch before Christmas. Judging by the number of flustered gentlemen I've seen in our store lately, there are still plenty of last minute shoppers out there. So, before you wake up to yet another new kitchen knife waiting under your tree ("but Honey, it's so practical!"), you many want to show the men in your life what you really want this year. I present to you: The No Guru Holiday Gift Guide, Men's Edition.

Note that this post can be shared (accidentally-on-purpose) with dads, brothers, boyfriends, husbands, best friends, and beyond using our handy 'share' tools at the top of the page (the icons right beside my beaming face). Send it out via Twitter, e-mail, Facebook, or 101 other ways that include pretty much everything except carrier pigeon.

ImageImage

Gift-giving 101: Things that are beautiful and/or cozy and do not require you to guess on sizing are always a good call. Bonus - accessories are still 25% off, so this bubble necklace is $25 $18 and this fringed infinity scarf is $32 now just $24

ImageImage

Intermediate gift-giving: If you're set on gifting clothing, try an oversized knit. They're stylish and comfortable, and you still have a generous amount of leeway when it comes to sizes. The number on the left comes in Teal and Wine and has just been marked down to $48. And on the right, this zigzag sweater is available in Teal and Mustard for $55.

Professional gift-giving: If you think you're ready to go pro, our Tobias coats (designed and produced right here in Vancouver) are a guaranteed A+. Sizing is a liiiittle trickier, so if you're hemming and hawing between two sizes, go bigger. Most people will layer a knit under their coat, so a little extra room is a bonus. Higher risk, yes, but major points if you can pull it off. Our 3/4 length pea coat, in Black, Camel, and Navy (left) is now $265, down from $330. Our double-breasted pea coat (right) is also available in Black, Camel, and Navy, and is marked down at $225 (originally $295).

If all else fails, never fear! Plum also carries gift certificates in Beginner, Intermediate, and Professional gift-giving denominations.
