Trend Report: Linen

Our Tobias linen jackets are a perennial favourite among our customers and staffers alike. This style works as a fun alternative to a suit jacket and as a light outerwear layer, making it a perfect transitional piece for spring. Versatility, thy name is linen!

Previously, we've seen a lot of linen in neutral, earthy tones. But with bright hues dominating on the runways, in the streets, and let'sfaceit, in our hearts as we wait out winter, I can't keep ignoring my craving for colour.

And whoever said you had to choose between the fabric and the colour of your dreams anyway? Plum's latest linen jacket is now available in lush Mulberry, warm Mustard, and a classic neutral!

Image(Left) Tobias linen jacket, $189. Leaf print skirt, $75 (Right) Butterfly print scarf, $28. Boyfriend jeans, $108.

A tailored jacket like this one is an excellent wardrobe building block. This little number really ties outfits together. Pair it with a printed skirt for a unique and timeless wedding look. Swap the skirt for boyfriend jeans and run the Sunday errands in style and comfort.

How do you love rocking a fabulous spring jacket?

Sometimes, two of the most beautiful concepts in fashion come together and it is glorious. Today, these are eyelet lace and a full-skirt dress. Cue heart palpitations.

We had gorgeous weekend weather in Vancouver (people were in their bathing suits in March, that happened). No more denial, it's officially time to break free of the winter pants prison and let your legs breathe in dresses! Bonus points for doing this look in all-over colour. I'm loving the shades of blues and greens together, it gives an already stunning dress just a liiiittle extra pop.

Simone sleeveless seamed dress, in Royal, Jade, and White, $129.

Necklace in Mint, $42, and purse in Blue, $39.

If you've already mastered the head-to-toe colour challenge, take it to the next level with head-to-toe pattern! Try a geometric print for a fresh and modern spring ensemble, and wear with confidence. A casual top knot and cat eye sunnies finish this look off purrrfectly.

Simone Cap Sleeve Dress, $125

With a weekend full of food, family, friends, and visiting (and chocolate!) fast approaching, the last thing you need to fret about is what-oh-what to wear. Opt for a spring dress in a fresh colour, like a robin's egg blue or a coral (you guys, I don't want to jinx this but...the Vancouver weather forecast for this weekend is 17 degrees and sunny. It is high time to break out the dresses!). Finish your look off with a pair of nude pumps - they'll give you legs for days and go with absolutely everything.

Simone Mixed Media Sheath Dress, $115

I especially love the shape of this Simone mixed media sheath. The long vertical lines will elongate your form, and the gentle curves of the dress are certain to flatter your own enviable curves.

If you prefer a little something in a fuller skirt, try this number. The classic shape paired with the on-trend bird print is a perfect match, and can easily be dressed up and down. We love it layered with a denim vest for a casual chic look!

With Hearts Ablazer

For most of us, buying an entirely new wardrobe every time a new season rolls around just isn't a viable option. How do you stay stylish and current without a complete overhaul? It isn't necessarily about spending more money, it's about taking a new approach to shopping. Shopping with purpose means making deliberate, conscious choices about the clothing you buy. Evaluate your needs (and wants!) at the beginning of each season, set a realistic budget, and then choose the items you want to welcome home to your wardrobe. This shopping strategy is the best way to take a tired wardrobe and bring it back to life!

To get the most bang+confidence+compliments for your buck, find items that take on a completely new look when paired differently - something that can be dressed up and dressed down. My double duty pick this season? The coloured blazer! Right on trend without being "trendy," surprisingly versatile, and a variation on office wear that is fun! What could be finer for spring?

What's your go-to shopping strategy? How are you planning to put it to work this spring?

As always, I love to hear from you here, on our Facebook page, or on Twitter @PlumClothing
