Plum's Taking Notes

Image

We did 3 surveys this past spring on all facets of shopping, styling and how you select the clothes you wear, and we learned so much about you! Thank you to those who filled out the survey; you were generous with your ideas and we’ve taken notes!

We liked how many of you thought a sales associate should act as your personal shopper: knowledgeable about products and skilled to wardrobe you if you request. They should be ready with options for how to wear garments and accessories that work with the look should you ask for help, but you don’t want them to hover over you while you browse.

Image

Many of you also claimed you wanted honest, insightful opinions about what works for you when asked and you appreciate genuine interactions with us, not some silly sales pitches or phony smiles that you can totally see through.

When I said we’ve been taking notes, I wasn’t kidding. We have some exciting new developments at Plum as we continue to strive to put the right clothing on the right women, so stay tuned for upcoming posts!

We've got one last short survey for you and you could win a $150 gift certificate! Click here to enter.

One Blouse for Two Seasons

Category:

Early fall arrivals are making their way onto retailer racks and even though we are tempted for something new, I know we don’t want to give up our pretty summer wardrobes. Rightly so with this July heat! The trick is to look for transitional pieces that can be worn through the last days of summer and long past the first fall chill.

Here’s how to style one blouse for two seasons:

Image

During the summer months, wearing this sleeveless blouse on its own is enough because of the lightweight fabric. The floral print blouse works now with lighter summer neutrals. Pull on your khaki linen pants, sand Bermuda shorts or other light coloured items you have in your closet. Faded denim also works well, like these boyfriend jeans pictured above.

Image

Later in fall, you’ll want to gradually add more of the fall palette as we transition into September when neutrals are darker. Think army green pants or a chocolate pencil skirt. Dark denim skinnies, as pictured above, are a great fall bottom. As it gets colder, layer this blouse with textured knits and heavier fabrics. This Kersh cardigan in Ginger warms the print when golden leaves are starting to hit the sidewalks for a bold autumn look. Finish the look with some fabulous boots!

Sunny Day Dresses

On the way to work this week, I had two compliments from strangers on how nice I looked in my dress. Don’t you just love mornings like that?

That morning, I put on a sleeveless eyelet dress that I had bought for a wedding I attended this summer and that I had only worn once. Over top, I wore a floral print cardigan and I slid on some silver bangles to make it appropriate for the office.  Later that evening, I took the cardigan off, switched my flat sandals to ones with a slight heel, and put on some dangly earrings, and I was fit to go to a social function I was invited to right after work. The dress easily took me from work to an evening event with just a slight change in accessories.

When I think about how little I fretted over what to wear that morning, I know that is the beauty of a dress.  During hot, summer weather, there is nothing like a dress in creating easy and stylish looks.

This week, we are offering an additional 20% off all spring/summer blouses and dresses in store so you will have more reason to add a few more dresses and blouses to your wardrobe.   Start planning your wardrobe for your mid-winter escape and get your packing done early! Offer ends next Tuesday.

Style that Lasts

Style that lasts goes hand-in-hand with items that can mix and match with other pieces in your closet and create looks out of single garments. Every wardrobe should have pieces that create stylish outfits in little time and these are the must-have items that I am always on the lookout for:

The Jacket: Investing in a great fitting jacket not only gives you endless wardrobe combinations from jeans to suits, but when you need to look polished and professional, you have the perfect solution in your closet. Tobias Jackets are renowned for their incredible fit and during our summer sale, they are as low as $89.

Image

The Dress: A go-to dress looks chic without effort, and shows off your best assets. Go for a bold colour like this blue for longevity, or a print that works with many of your wardrobe’s coordinates to always have the perfect dress for any event. Simone dresses are designed for a variety of body shapes and now start at $49.

Image

The Right Accessory: Scarves, purses and jewellery have incredible power to take a drab outfit and show off your personality and style. Expand from your usual pickings while the price is right and go for bold colours, interesting prints and textures like snake print for fun and added visual interest. During the sale, all jewellery is 25% off and purses are 50% off the original ticket, while all scarves are just $10 each.

Made in Canada with Love

As Rebekah said goodbye to Plum, I'd like to introduce myself as the new face behind the No Guru blog. My name is Lindsay and I am a lover of all things fashion. I think we'll get along well!

Here at Plum, for this Canada Day long weekend, we are celebrating all things Canadian, especially our favorite fashion brands designed and made with love right here at home.  Plum shoppers adore the fact that our in-house designs are made in local Vancouver factories.

Image

Manufacturing locally, we have a distinct advantage in ensuring the excellent fits that we are known for in our Simone and Tobias lines. Our designs are made in limited quantities so each style is unique, not mass-produced, but is still right on trend.

Second Jeans also designs and manufactures our favorite Yoga jeans in la belle province of Quebec. By keeping their manufacturing 3 hours from their headquarters in Montréal, they are able to respond immediately to new denim trends. Also, by producing locally, they need to meet Canadian environmental standards so their dyes and washes won't pollute our waterways.

This season, we are loving the ankle cuff skinny Yoga jean in red, blueberry and teal regularly $120, now on sale for $75 for 5 days only! Two other deals you will want to take advantage of are the high-rise skinny Yoga jean in white regularly $120, that is now priced at $89 and our high-rise skinny ankle length Yoga jean in black and classic blue regularly $110, that is now priced at $85.

Midnight Cactus, our lovely jewellery line, is proudly made by hand in Nova Scotia. Pat Manthorne, the designer, uses only sterling silver and semi-precious stones to create stylish earrings. This weekend, all jewellery, including Midnight Cactus, is 50% off for 5 days only!

Plus, there will be many more specials in store.

I hope to see you there!
