Sale Into Summer

Drum roll please!!!

The much awaited season has arrived ahead of schedule. Sorry east coast but summer season has arrived here and we're keeping her!

In honor of this glorious, blissful, sunshine emitting season, we have a great great sale in progress. Are there pieces you've been obsessing over for a while and can't rest until you have them in your wardrobe? I absolutely, regularly do that, however, waiting for a sale is not something I excell at. Obsess no more, that much mulled over item may now be reduced:

Take a look:

This breezy beautiful kimono cardigan... is so lightweight, you'd likely forget your wearing it, but offers just a touch of coverage and an irresistable color pallette. Now at $45, hard to resist (two print options)

Perhaps it was this botanically inspired, light as air number. Now $52

So, time to get going, while selection is still available. Here's a refresher on sale shopping to get you prepared:

  • Pull your hair back, put on your Allstars and be ready for a workout.

  • Don't be stuck on your size.  Before you pass it up (not officially your size), give it a try. Stretchy fabric has a way of being more forgiving and can change the fit from something very loose and drapey to a fitted garment. Or, it's a size too large? Consider slight alterations.

  • Think outside the box - never been a fan of pink (did I just say that out loud?). Maybe this is the time to venture into another color spectrum. If it's on sale, less of an investment.

  • Don't forget any upcoming vacations, what a great time to make a reduced price purchase, then pack it away for the trip so you have something fresh and brand new when you arrive at your destination.

  • Buy more than one (something you like and a friend might as well?), think future gift giving.

  • REMEMBER - S.L.B.....SEE IT, LIKE IT BUY IT....because if you like it, someone else will too. How many times have I gone back to get something I had now become decisive about, and clearly someone beat me to it. Thus my CLOSET obsession has now kicked in...

  • Saved on the garment...now you can splurge on some accessories, a fabulous necklace or clutch to complete the outfit

  • Bring a friend. Sharing is good! Shopping a sale with a companion definitely makes it more enjoyable

  • Reward yourself for saving with a nice cappuccino later!

Markdowns have begun, start preparing to sale into Summer with some great bargains that will pump up your wardrobe.

And don't forget the current promotion; still a few days left to take advantage.

Plum Promo: From May 15 to May 25, spend minimum $100 (before taxes), you will qualify for a $15 off a future puchase coupon. Coupon will be emailed.

Yours in Fashion Passion...(or obsession).

5 Tips for Boxing Day Shopping

Boxing Day shopping is an annual tradition for many Canadians. With the stress of gift buying behind us, the day is completely reserved for shopping for ourselves. These 5 helpful tips will help you maximize your shopping day:

  1. Early bird gets the worm: Don’t hit the snooze button so you can have first pick over parking, fitting rooms, the help of a friendly sales clerk and merchandise before the store is filled with shoppers. (Check here for your local Plum store's hours.)
  2. Take breaks: Eat a big breakfast and make sure you stop during the day for coffee breaks to recharge. Being hungry can affect your ability to make sound decisions on sale items.
  3. Dress in the right clothes:  Layers will make trying on clothes a cinch.  Plus, if the fitting room line-up is too long, you can try clothes on in front of a mirror. To keep comfortable, forego the winter parka so don’t have to carry much and wear slip-on shoes.
  4. Know what you need and how much you can spend: By doing a little planning ahead, you will have a better idea of what you want to spend your money on. That way you’ll be able to zero in on what you are actually looking for despite distractions.
  5. Have fun: Boxing Day sales are about finding things you love for a deal, so don’t forget to enjoy yourself!

Here's the inside scoop on the deals at Plum to help you make your list:

How to be Sale Savvy

We love sales for the thrill of the hunt. We also love to share our good fortune when we get a compliment on our find. Being sale savvy is about finding outfits that add new life to your existing wardrobe when the price is right.  Here are some ideas on how to shop this mid-season sale:

  1. Take a look in your closet and evaluate what you have before you head out the door.  When you know what you need, it’s easier to stay focused when tempted by the sales racks. Because the selection and quantities are better than at end-of-season sales, you want to think about outfits.
  2. Wardrobe essentials such as a black jacket or skinny yoga jeans are great finds because the cost-per-wear on closet basics will be that much lower.  Plus, essentials such as the yoga jeans rarely go on a promotion with a full selection of styles and size so it’s time to buy.  But even if the price is a steal, make sure the fit is right.
  3. Closet basics are nothing without the fun pieces that speak to your personal style. Trendy items are worth buying if you can think of wearing it in three different outfits. And you’ll still have time to wear them before the season is out.
  4. You can never have enough accessories and jewellery. Because they can transform your outfit and allow you to play with trends with minimal investment, it’s time to stock up when they are on sale.

Being sale savvy is buying the clothing that excites you and inspires you with many outfit ideas. The real value is in every time you put them on.

Shopping the Sales

Category:

Image

Well friends, it's that time of year again. Believe it or not, retailers need to start making room for fall merchandise pretty soon (excusemesummerhasn'tevenhappenedyet), so now is a great time to shop the sales and put together a summer wardrobe on the economical. While sales are indisputably awesome, they can be a bit overwhelming and tiring if you go in without a game plan. So here are some simple tips on making the most out of the sale season.

Image

1) Take stock of your wardrobe before you go. Where are your gaps? Most stores have a 'final sale' policy on sale items. If you get home only to realize that you bought a repeat of something you already have, you're likely to be stuck with the double.

2) If you happen to be on the smaller or the larger side of the size spectrum, this is your time to shine. Get out there and get shopping. Median sizes tend to get snapped up right away, leaving smaller and bigger sizes to be discounted when it comes sale time.

3) When you find a great deal on an investment piece (a blazer or a great dress, for example)- or even just something that you really liked but the sizing is a bit off - go for it. Having some minor alterations done will be worth it in the long run, and you'll wind up with a piece that not only was on sale, but was custom tailored for you!

4) If you want an entire outfit at a great price, don't be shy about asking the sales associates for advice on how to pair items. Trust me, they (we!) see the clothes worn in every combination imaginable and will be happy to pass along the unique product knowledge to you.

5) Quality over quantity. If you're at a sale trying to decide between two or three tops that you have lukewarm feelings about and one blazer that you love, always go for the love. In this case, less really is more.

Don't forget to visit our fabulous sidewalk sale this Thursday through Sunday (June 21-24) and put my handy tips to good use! And I'm not saying you'd want to hang out with me, but just in case you do, I'll be at our Kitsilano location Thursday, Saturday, and Sunday.

Check out all the great deals here: Plum Sidewalk Sale

And now I'd like to know, do you usually wait for sales to go shopping? Are you a sale veteran/rookie? Leave a comment here or tweet me @PlumClothing
