Suitable jobs!

Picture this...You're meeting with a real estate agent for the first time about to view various properties in the hopes of making a purchase. If you live in Vancouver, this would be substantial money (an understatement). Your Real Estate agent stands in front of you, she smiles warmly..but you look down, threads hang from her suit and the lining of the hem is buckling...You worry...not because she isn't attentive, seems to recycle and drives a hybrid (lol), about her attention to detail. Plum's attention to detail is never in question. Suits that can stand next to any internationally known, high end label at more than fair prices.

Image

I adore this suit. It's only drawback is, if you're giving a presentation, there is a distinct possibility no one will hear what's been said, so distractingly gorgeous. A stunning addition to your professional wardrobe, with a slight feminine edge.

Tobias double breasted jacket with flared hem (black or pewter) $230

Tobias slim pant with welt pocket (black or pewter) $110

Image

Maybe it's your first day on the job and it's a traditional suit style you need. This is Plum's latest two button. Just a superior fitting jacket worn here with the matching, paneled, back slit skirt. An office wardrobe basic.

Tobias two button jacket with peak lapels (Merlot and black) $215

Tobias pencil skirt (Merlot and black) $95

ImageImage

Here is an absolutely wonderful addition to anyone's wardrobe. On the left worn with a pencil skirt and Kersh cardi for more of an office look, on the right suitable for casual/weekend times. A wonderful, wool blend mix. Yet light weight enough to be layered and worn as outerwear. A really versatile piece.

Tobias draped front boiled wool coat (black, peacock or purple) $225

ImageImage

And some co-ordinates to go with your suits. Because embroidered anything is very big right now. From scarves, to jackets to even footwear, you'll find embroidery. This sweet top is allover embroidered georgette lace. And a shell top is an easy match with any suit.

Kersh capsleeve lace top (cream) $65

Plum sleeveless top with high low hem (black or pink) $69

Exchange 'Real Estate Agent' with Doctor, Interior Decorator, Financial Advisor...many professions necessitate flawless presentations requiring the client to trust in, at times, risky endeavors. Stepping down from the seriousness of work attire, however, jackets are also ok on weekends, just double check for the chocolate croissant stains before you step into that meeting on Monday!

Just remember, the quality of your work need not hang by a thread!

What's in a name....

'What's in a name' said William Shakespeare...is this a coat or a jacket...'that is the question'! (ok maybe not the coat/jacket part). Upon feasting my eyes on this, my first thought...'it's a jacket'. However after deliberating, and a quick poll..I discovered...it really depends. Is the deciding factor the fabric content, the length or something else entirely? What you call it and how you wear it are they related? If you call this a coat, you'll wear it over your outfit, if you call it a jacket it's potentially 'part' of the outfit. Looking for ways to expand your wardrobe...consider using your outerwear as part of the ensemble. Think outside the box (or outside the coat).

Image

The drape front collar is such a chic trend. Lending a great air of elegance and creativity to a garment. This coat was a huge hit in the office when everyone spotted the first cut! Generous pockets, crepe texture and a wonderful little gathering in the back for definition. And then of course, there's the yummy, warm, neutral colour, easy to infuse into any outfit. This is a must have piece; perfect for many different seasons.

Tobias draped front trench coat Rayon/nylon blend (caramel or black) $210

Image

Blazers are a staple of our wardrobes now. They've gone from the office to the weekend so seamlessly...worn with jeans, skirts, dresses...no limits...and great for layering. If it's needed as outerwear, underneath add a lightweight cardigan and a scarf if the temperature drops.

Tobias linen jacket (caramel, khaki or natural) $185

Image

Perhaps you prefer the classic Inspector Clouseau style trench (with a bit more sex appeal of course)! Button down, tie front, cotton/spandex blend. Worn as outerwear, over a cardigan, a jean jacket or a blazer...a great lightweight layer to peel off when the sun beams down.

Press trench style coat (khaki wash, lilac grey wash) $125

You're dying to know what the poll results were aren't you? Well I'm going to tell you anyway...it was a landslide, the majority of the voters in my miniscule poll voted for COAT. Call it what you will, but the main thing is...wear it your way!

'Walk this way..'

I suppose if one more person mentions that walking is good for you, you might want to just throw a shoe at them (not the good ones though). However, it truly does bear reminding because of it's endless health benefits. For instance, did you know, a recent study, showed walking intensity points towards longevity for those who have a naturally brisk gait? But what inspires you to get out there...listening to Aerosmith on iTunes, falling leaves, or simply the cuddly poncho you love most? How about some inspiration brought to you by Plum:

Image

If there is one trend that must not be missed, it's the poncho/shawl trend. Suited for everyone, there are so many great patterns, colours and textures to choose from. Very versatile piece. This gorgeous one above has the softest texture and a hood.  What else would you need!

Look by M chain pattern, hood poncho (beige or black) $79

Twinkle twinkle little star, how I wonder why you're not in my closet (fashionista lyrics). Just your basic black v neck sweater with a blast of star quality!

Kersh seeing stars pullover sweater (black) $84

Nowhere is it written that we must appear as if prepared for a hike in the Himalayans' in Nepal. I love how it's creatively belted. Comprised of ramie and cotton, this is an excellent addition to the natural fibers' lovers wardrobe.

Selfie couture long open cardi (khaki) $89

ImageImage

I'm fairly certain your last name need not be Stewart to wear this fabulous reversible poncho.  And I hate to keep harping on the 'reversible/you've gained two garments' thing however...it is what it is! You're welcome! I think it cries out for some bright red lipstick or some bold red hunter boots and you're ready for a walk in the Highlands!

Look waterfall poncho double sided (grey, red) $59

Image

This sweater is made for walking! You can tell it's just the perfect co-ordination of colours, bright but inconspicuous enough to blend in with many of your favourite pieces. Yet another one that would look sensational (if you so choose) to add a belt for a bit of interest.

Selfie couture drapy cardigan (black) $79

Do not miss the amazing sweater selections currently in stock. I struggled with keeping this to 5 sweaters. Have a look at what's in stock!

It all adds up...

Don't forget to use the $20 off min purchase coupon (September 17 - 27) NOTE our coupon can also be used online...still in effect!

Can the right suit get you hired or the sought after promotion? Probably not, but it can make sure you're not ruled out. In other words, if it's between you and another candidate...and it's neck and neck....why not choose the one with the flawless attire? Just a minor detail that we'd rather not consider, however real. I've had substandard quality shoes fail me at a wedding...why put yourself in this position at a crucial time. Why not walk confidently in quality.

ImageImageImage

Here's a jacket (and it's co-ordinates) that looks polished yet looses no points to being 'run of the mill'...Tobias always includes unexpected, interesting features to help you stand out. Because different is not only ok but great, distracting (for all the wrong reasons) maybe not.

Tobias one button hem side flare jacket (black, burgundy) $210

Tobias pant with front and back welt pocket (black, burgundy) $115

Tobias high waist pencil skirt (black, burgundy) $92

ImageImage

While pairing your jacket with opposites such as destroyed denim on the weekend is standard in style now, matching for work means it might be best to invest in the actual mates. It just seems a touch off when the jacket is worn with a bottom that is of similar fabrication but 'not' quite.  Colours do not always match therefore, maybe best to get the matching pant or skirt making for a complete, pulled together look. Add the creative part with the blouses, tanks and accessories.

Tobias button front shawl collar jacket (black, charcoal) $195

Tobias relaxed trouser (black, charcoal) $98

Image

While the blazer is the standard for most office settings, there's no reason why you can't veer off course a bit with this slick looking faux leather piece. Smart, sleek and a bit edgy put together with a pencil skirt, heels and a simple necklace would make this a great piece to do double duty for weekends as well.

Fate faux leather and rayon front jacket (black) $129

Gone are the days when showing your own personal style meant, you just did not fit in, it just was not done. Not only is it acceptable in most cases to add a bit of 'you', it indicates you don't just follow a path, you create one.

You know what they say...you are what you eat wear...inspire yourself.

only one Tobias...

How do you establish if your beloved, much worn suit is dated? Sleeves too wide, are there 'Dynasty' quality shoulder pads. Perhaps, simply put, your body has changed over time and your once 'coveted' 'go to' suit now just feels awkward. The jacket itself has a history going back to the middle ages, however, we need not 'look' middle aged in them (even if we are). Plum has established itself as an expert in jackets and suits, well designed and beautifully crafted pieces that go together or work well with others (like you)!

Image

This is 'by far' one of my all time favourite Tobias jackets. An update of one of last years big hits, I would suggest investing in this one. It provides such a beautiful, long lean look and as above looks amazing with the matching pants. However, it also looks great with a shift dress or funky with jeans and an infinity scarf. I had so much fun creating looks with this.

Tobias 2 button long jacket (black, taupe) $249

Tobias slim pants with side zip (black, taupe) $98

Image

Another fabulous Tobias cut. The beauty of this great design is not only the great take on the military, but it's fabrication. Made of a wonderful blend of rayon, nylon, spandex, it has this outstanding style, with the comfort of a quality stretch fabric.

Tobias Military Jacket (black, charcoal) $195

Perhaps you desire something lighter weight. This drape front, 3/4 sleeve, jacket has emerged as a strong style feature which makes a great style replacement for the ubiquitous cardigan. If you're feeling creative, try belting it otherwise, the unstructured, free flowing nature of this jacket is great as is.

Tobias shawl collar unlined jacket (black, wine) $169

Image

Such a funky, fun, weekend look. Or, perhaps your workplace is creative/casual. So easy to put together with the graphic t, the distressed jeans and sexy booties...watch out world! The jacket itself creates such a gorgeous silhouette, with such subtle but distinct features, that only Tobias styles.

Tobias button front shawl collar jacket (black, charcoal) $195

There are so many jacket styles now and Plum always provides something to suit each need. There is no longer a need to choose between looking polished and looking cool and updating your look does not require an entire wardrobe overhaul. Today's workplace may have changed in many ways but Tobias is consistent and steadfast with it's commitment to quality and design. Their designs are limited quantity so never hesitate when you find 'the one'!
