Plum and Big Sisters...you could win a $350 gift certificate...details here

I've been presented lately with quite a number of 'would you rather' questions from my 10 year old. And NEITHER is no more accepted as an option than it is on a voter card (sadly)! So I thought up my own 'would you rather'...Would I rather spend one night in a castle, in an exotic location with full facilities and unparalleled views.....or find the perfect dress? Maybe the 'one night' seems like a slam dunk...however every year at this time, I find myself in search of the dress as if it would totally make my life complete. It seems a dress in a woman's wardrobe is often like the suit jacket to a man. Although, we usually like to have many and we don't only wear them to the office. Plum absolutely excels at dresses.

Image

Isn't this the sweetest thing since chocolate dipped donuts? And nicer to wear! So nicely designed, with pockets, slight A-line, flattering length, beautifully fitted with slight stretch and slight stretch lining.

Simone sleeveless A-line dress (black or white print) $135

ImageImage

Unquestionably a print that declares clearly that spring is here. Blossoms throughout, this dress is yet another fresh, easy wear...with pockets, unlined with a delightfully feminine back view.

Simone A-line dress with pockets (aqua, navy/cream, or pink) $129

Image

This is such a hot little, knit, pull on, dress, showing 'just' enough...to create come intrigue and unless you're Melania Trump with a private audience with the Pope, you can probably afford to be a little bit daring.

French Connection Ottoman crepe knit dress (fuschia) $158

Image

On the lighter, more casual, less structured side, is this pretty blue, denim, embroidered style. Made from 100% cotton, a comfortable, breathable wear for the seasons to come.

Ellison embroidered dress (denim) $79

Image

Another casual denim dress, which can switch to being worn as a tunic or just a light cover with capri tights. Made from the, emerging in popularity fabric, Tencel (lyocell), a great sustainable fibre, comprised of wood cellulose...very similar to rayon in it's fluidity.

Etherial tencel dress (denim blue) $79

Life is full of so many choices...should I have the salad or a nice thick burger, should I marry the artist my family thinks is a bum or the computer geek? Just remember though, that even 'not' making a choice...is still a choice. So don't just sit there, dresses are waiting to be chosen (if you don't choose them someone else will)!

So many dresses...so little time

Who doesn't love 20% off (and sharing)...why not both*

*(20% is off one regular price item only)

So valued is the Mother/daughter relationship, yet does not always consist of 'a Mother and daughter'...think...big sister/little sister, best friends, older cousin/younger cousin, aunts and nieces. Thinking back...by the time I was 19 years old and going for my first big job interview, my mother loaned me one of her dresses.  Despite the many many decades age and style gap, she managed to help me look, more like a grown up, ready for a job, woman. Today we are so fortunate; with a multitude of styles that seamlessly cross over the generations. (It's no longer required that a 50 year old, look...50)...current styles are more ageless.  And Plum is THE place where there is no gap; the place for multigenerational shopping where you will both find styles to suit your unique personalities.

Image

What do these lovely women have in common? It's not their size, height or age....other than they're mother and daughters, they all shop at Plum. Our society has become far more ageless, and our fashions reflect that. Although personally, I stay away from mini skirts. But that's just me!

PLUM DRESSES

Image

Don't waste your time raiding your mother's closet, just go shopping with her instead. Saves having to explain where 'it' went. Above are some very professional styles; jackets that can move from office, event, meetings to weekend wear, with a bit of tweaking.

PLUM JACKETS

Image

These are not 'MOM JEANS' these are jeans that will fit your Mom, (or aunt, or cousin)! Current denim styles suit and fit everyone. They're designed to look great and fit to accommodate a 'real' body and movement. Note the raw, unfinished hem, and harem style work for everyone!

PLUM DENIM

What is your Mother's best quality? Mother's often possess so many wonderful qualities, hard to pick only one. My Mother's middle eastern heritage meant we enjoyed many wonderful meals, she had enviable full lips, that made Molly Ringwald look like Paul Ryan and her love of fashion meant she had quite a charming collection of interesting hats (to name a mere few). If you're a Mother and you haven't introduced your daughter to Plum, what are you waiting for? After all, you're the Mom...the original 'know it all'(and we love that)!

BIG SISTERS CAMPAIGN NOW ON. You could win a gift certificate worth $350.

What's the best thing about shopping locally? Oh to narrow it down to one thing! Goods are made by people who work here, goods don't go into shipping containers and use fewer shipping companies (if any), employs your neighbour, no import fees...need I go on? I bet you knew all that. But did you know that most of what non profits receive are from local retailers. We can't control a lot of our surroundings but it's one of the few things we can have a say in. We can play a big part in the success of our local business'.

One other important fact: local businesses (like Plum) often carry goods exclusive to them, not found at multiple chain retailers. Like they're designing just for you.

Image

A simply stunning little dress with great details such as, bold colour, rayon blend (which means it hangs so nicely),flattering shape, lined and with a delightful little cut out in the back...so fresh, it's like it grew in your garden. I can think of 15 different ways to work this dress. With a bold statement necklace (or a simple locket), pumps or funky heels, a scarf, a jacket or a shawl, or the 'jean jacket'...a multitude of different looks possible!

Simone shift dress with back cutout (fuchsia and scuba blue) $129

ImageImage

This is another fresh easy look. The graphic patterns, are like accessories on their own. So many great colours to incorporate into your wardrobe. I love also how the designer never forgets the back details. Because when you walk away, you want to be remembered! ;)

Plum sleeveless blouse with faux collar (black, black/orange, green, orange and royal prints) $59

Image

Here's a trend you may want to jump in on. The jogger, done so well here by Plum. A great poly/spandex mix; a fabric mix that flows so nicely together (not to mention travels well). This textured fabric is still light enough for the season. And note how they're worn with pumps, which gives them a decidedly edgier look or don't resist your compulsion to wear them with your flats or flip flops. Just depends on the look you want to create.

Plum jogger with drawstring waistband (olive or black) $79

Image

Yet another very efficient wardrobe addition. Long enough to possibly serve as a dress with capri tights one day, crop pants another day, add a double wrap belt or take it to a pool party and use as a light coverup. Many very cool options.

Plum sleeveless tunic shirt (black, black/off white, royal) $85

So many great reasons to shop locally, one of which is, so you can save your money for your travels, not your goods to travel.

Yours in Fashion passion...

Raise your hand if you have a big sister. I don't have enough hands, because I'm blessed with 3 big sisters. Yes you can count your best friend who you feel is like a big sister. But maybe you don't have a big sister and always wished you had one. Someone to always confide in, bounce things off of and look up to. Someone who will support but not criticize you, no matter how silly you feel your ideas might be.

Some young girls are less fortunate, their parents (or parent), are stretched to the limit. Not enough time or resources to provide all of this. Here's your opportunity to help a little sister get her big sister. During the month of May Plum collects donations by asking our customers to contribute $2 to help match 2 little Sisters with their big sisters. From now until June 1, 2014, Plum will be matching donations up to $25, and, you get a chance to win a $350 Plum Gift Certificate!

These big sisters play such an important role in the lives of these growing young girls. By providing much needed support and encouragement  which in turn can boost a young girls growing self esteem. With healthy self esteem, we know so much can be accomplished.
